She’s 100% right; our churches used to be a refugee for the poor, for the weak and the troubled. They played a major role in the communities, protecting our moral values and rights. However, money is the order of the day, morality has eloped our societal norms. They used to do this effortlessly with several styles of penalties; the consequences became a deterrent for the masses. Nowadays, there are little or no cultural or religious consequences; everyone in the society is running amok like a headless chicken. No true leadership with sense of true responsibility to drive the society to greater moral standards

yes we all must constantly return to the root virtues of our faith that is true. a world without religio and a collective connection to God is not an option for African people. we are chiefly a people of faith and no bad leader will change that. Africa is currently the most powerful part of the Catholic church as it has always been since the founding of Christianity. We Catholics must hold our leaders accountable by using our faith not by losing it. I hope Ms. Chimamanda hasn't completely lost her faith from the bad actions of a few when so many more are doing good in the African church.

@@apachekafka773 now you are trying to deflect. So the church has no responsibilities to those who dedicated their lives to ensuring the good news keeps spreading. The church organization should have cared for the deceased that was the point. They should done a good will gesture to the family like waving the fees, maybe donating money or resources to the family in a time where they are grieving. There several communities here that pay the deceased a certain amount for burial expenses but All the cared about was the patronage.
