this stuffs pretty pricey, as he chucks it to the other side of the roof 😂😂 like a true roofer😂 grew up with my father being a roofer, learned a bunch from him, slowly got away from roofer, hang gutters now, less beating on your body! ever do “torch down”? i know there’s a name but just called it what my father did! up here in buffalo, all the snow we get and the dumb builders that like roofs with not enough slope, everyone always called my dad, was soo good at it, and i don’t think there are many people that knew how to do it correctly! enjoy your videos, learn many different things i either never knew, or partially knew! always good to learn! and have that skill!! keep it up, always enjoy your work! stay safe!

I hate the heat. Mid Michigan, hot, muggy, no breeze. Stupid Ice and Water is like Saran Wrap with melted bubble gum on the back. Nearly impossible to handle and install smoothly without it folding over on itself and sticking. Once it sticks, forget about ever separating it. I like how you did the chimney flashing. Very neat.

With almost 20 years experience in the US doing mostly shingles, good to see someone that cares. On another note, have you ever seen ice and water shield actually do what it claims to to do? I use it. But not so sure why it's code almost everywhere. Almost like it's a racket of some sort.

Hey Brian, Sean from Adaptive Roofing in WA state! Thanks for all you do. Quick question @13:10. Manufacturer spec calls out to never leave shorter than a 12” shingle running into your step flashing. I’ve always wondered if this really mattered and I saw you didn’t blink an eye going in there with an 8” or so piece. This would save me a lot of headache stepping back to follow this 12” rule hahaha. Let me know!

I'd like to share something. since its abnormal and not easy and just goes to show what happens out there. Im on a bad one. Its a front door overhang alley from the architect, where they used a stone facade, so alot like a chimney. except 2 dead spots, since theres 2 ridges sending water flow to the 2 dead spots.. The roofers came in first and installed roofing. then they came in after and laid stone facade. So the flashing is all under the stone facade. The shallow crickets in the dead spots didnt leak. Its the transition as the cricket sends the water out to the "side of the chimney" Also they didnt use ice and water shield anywhere and with the stone trapping their idea of "flashing" I cant get ice and water shield lipped over that wall after the fact. Obviously their idea of how to construct was never water tight from day1 so every house done with that plan leaks on that door overhang in the exact same place. Also not 1 person ever caught this in the chain including the pre purchase inspectors. The only 1 that seems to catch this is insurance for storm damage as "improper install" which is spot on.

He chalked a line, and cut into the chimney for a long piece of flashing to be put in after he shingled it in. Yes cutting into the mortar joints is better than doing a straight angled cut but if it's done right it will serve its purpose.

Love all your videos! Do you have a set price for repairs, such as chimney flashing like this one? In your other video, you had mentioned your approx. replacement figures in your market...which is similar to ours in my state. I was looking to start doing more repairs myself and it's basically a name-your-own-price type of scenario, as most either don't like or aren't capable of repairs/flashings.

Get yourself a couch cushion and take off the covering and use the foam to kneel on,saves burning yourself,you will get to like the foam and won't want to work without it. Should have added another piece of metal top corner of chimney before saddle metal went in,I wouldn't use cheap aluminum flashing ever,Rezibond is my go to metal,but does require painting or copper flashing is my 1st choice if it's a new roof install.

Should you nail the flashing to the roof in all cases?
@GrandRoofingInc
@GrandRoofingInc 4 ай бұрын
If it's new construction, you can nail the flashing to the subsiding, that's ideal. If it's a reroof or in this case brick, you can't nail to the subsiding. Shooting the flashing at the top outer edge to the roof deck is perfectly fine. Just don't shoot the nails close to the 90° bend. Or anywhere near the bottom edge where water gets to it. If it's not shot or pinned down from moving, say with caulking it could slide out of place, causing a leak.

Shingles tight to the flashing? There is no room for water to flow freely. Dirt and debris will accumulate in that tiny Grover between the shingle and chimney, water won’t be able to freely flow and it will back up underneath shingles with time. Should leave a finger width gap on all flashing.
