Thank you for this video. My father and I just hiked this trail this morning and made it to the bottom of the rock face, but as the trail was already blocked off and I had never been on a mountain until today (at 23 years old) we were too reluctant to continue any further. It was extremely nerve-wracking to even watch this video, but obviously you both scaled it quickly and calmly. I enjoyed seeing your video, even 20 years later, as this was the part we could not personally experience!

@uriahchessor99893 жыл бұрын
I ran up this thing like a little billy goat when I was 9-10 years old back in the 80's. I had a close call jumping down a 'small' ledge for my Dad to catch me and nearly jumped too high for him to grab me. Just behind him was a several hundred foot straight drop. We did make it all the way up and over to the next peak though. My favorite smokie hike.

The first time I ever climbed this was back in 1992 when I was 13 years old. I’ve been back twice since, but stopped at the bottom of the rock face both times. My friends that went with me on those other two hikes climbed to the summit. I waited for them. Once was enough for me. It’s a great experience, but my nerves just can’t handle it like they could at 13.

Wife and I tried this the year before the fire. Got to the edge of the roots and rocks with several signs saying don't go further and it was misty wet. We were both pushing 60 and had no problems hiking to that point. After seeing what lied ahead probably a good thing we headed the warning not to try it when wet. Definitely wouldn't want to if it was crowded. Thanks for the video.

How did you get this quality video from 2000??
@PapiGrayBeard3 жыл бұрын
After seeing this video, I was so happy cause for Father’s Day weekend we planned to go stay in the smokies and I was gonna make it a mission to visit Chimney Tops. I got up Friday morning (yesterday morning) and at 7am I started my climb. Right at the opening where the blocking door is at, I saw a bear but he took off running right as he saw me. Cause of that, I decided to turn back and minutes going back down, I run into a mama bear with cubs in a tree blocking my path and the fear of stories I heard kept me frozen in place with no one around for help. Lucky for me, a hiker on the way up helped me get thru while he was holding bear spray just in case. Got it all on video but I have to edit it all when I get home. Very scary and very upset that I didn’t get to repeat going to the top like I did 5 years ago. Maybe next time. 🍻

I don't think I could do this lol.. I'd love to, but knowing me, I'd definitely slip lol.. On a side note, I didn't realize climbing to the top of one of those TN mountains would be that extreme.. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure what I was expecting it to look like exactly.. I do know that I wasn't expecting it to be so narrow and rocky though lol..
