That was sweet that she let Pattie hold her baby so she could have a break too I’m sure... but I think Pattie took advantage of that and it stressed the group out a bit. ZeeZee clearly wanted her baby back and Pattie was loving every minute of experiencing motherhood 💓

just a passing human consideration: it couldn't be that she liked the attention, could it? i'm sure that if this was at all in play, it was a secondary thing. but still, i wonder. there is a guy with some kind of low-iq disorder/syndome that cleans my apartment complex (the look on Carlos's face 5:12 actually reminded me of him). he has learned how easy it is to be around me (i smile and am accessible. i try to make him comfy and others generally walk away from him and keep things at a distance). he has begun to curse at me when i go by to get my mail and then he'll smile when i look over.. he'll also sweep garbage up in front of my door every single day... i think i tmay be cuz he wants to get a rise out of me. he wants some kind of excitement or drama in his life or something. so that's what made me consider this aspect.

Stop putting human behaviours onto an animal that doesn’t have the capacity nor has the mental cognition to do a thing you speak of. These are wild animals you people constantly want to humanise these creatures. It’s hilarious and very stupid.

Zeezee is a smart Mom to understand that if she willingly "offers" Pattie a chance to babysit, and shows that she trusts her then it's much less likely that Pattie or one of the other females (Tina) will try to steal little Stevie and have a chance of her being hurt. Now that Pattie has had an opportunity the others should be nice and hopefully patiently wait for Zeezee to allow them a/an turn/opportunity to babysit. SMART MOMMA!!!❤️❤️❤️

It was in danger. The keepers watch them all day long, if they believe Carlos was upset, he probably was. The mother knew how Pattie got the baby, but since Carlos was upset, he probably didn't know what was going on. If Carlos tried to take the baby, and Pattie held on purposefully or reflexively, the baby would be seriously injured.

@@HkFinn83 Common amongst different groups - chimps specifically all mate within their groups and that means that they don't know who is the father, and it means all the males are invested in the future of the group. When another group is defeated in the wild, yes, usually the babies will be killed - though there have been adoptions they are rare. However the baby was still in danger of an accident, just because it's a stressful situation and they are still fragile

@MrJameslupien
@MrJameslupien Жыл бұрын
Nothing about that was being dramatic. Chimps are some of the most hyper-violent and aggressive animals on the planet. They are notorious for killing and dismembering each other for the smallest slights. Zoo keepers at that point can do absolutely nothing about the situation but pray. They would get torn to shreds if they tried to go in there.
@anonymoose2474

They have social structures based far more on violence, and they are far more violent. I wouldn't apply the word psychopath to them, but they are insanely violent and aggressive, even among other aggressive apes. They also seek to kill and destroy when angry. They are very smart, and very strong, and very aggressive. That's a very dangerous combo. Gorillas are far bigger and stronger, but chimps are far more dangerous than gorillas@vyhozshu

One sociobiological hypothesis is human(oid) females selected less sexually dimorphic, less aggressive males to avoid infanticide. It's always tough to verify hypotheses. Over time we can observe great ape males with less sharp teeth and smaller size relative to females until we get to us, the least aggressive and closest in size to our partners.

Maybe what is different is a kind of "forced troop/family" environment because of the confinement they are in. They really are not able to disagree with each other and have one or more just wander off somewhere else to form or join a new troop because of.the prison they are in. Even though it is being done to help preserve our beautiful wild life. Glad they worked it out.

I don’t know, but isn’t it time modern zoos starts ‘listening’ to their animals a little bit more? It sounds as though Pattie is a high ranking female, somewhat higher than Zee-Zee but then Zee-Zee ends up with a bundle of joy, which inadvertently threatened Pattie’s position, and luckily for that zoo’s mishandling of this perilous situation, Zee-Zee knows the chimp society’s politics much better and had to do the right thing, at the same time putting her newborn in danger to defuse the dynamics. The zoo did wrong, and before allowing Zee-Zee to breed, they should’ve given the high-ranking females the occasion to breed as well. Zoos should never dedicate how an animal society should work because in this situation the newborn could have been killed and a huge conflict that could have seen Zee-Zee, Carlos and Tina seriously injured, even the top male was getting upset. Ridiculous and carelessness on the zoo part

So how did they get the chimps to the zoo? What do they do if one needs surgery or other health care?

It’s amazing how the chimps are intelligent enough to know that trying to calmly diffuse the situation is the best way to keep the baby safe rather than use physical force to take her back.

So there was no kidnapping the baby was entrusted and given away by the mother as she guarded and supervised the unrelated female zeke. In 40 years they have never seen it done in an captured environment. Let them animals live in their own habitat and do what they do you can’t understand and explain it all.

.............Adult female chimps dont spend their entire adulthood with a child to look after. No mammals do. Do you walk around assuming all human women without children are incapable of having any?

@@MrJameslupien In the wild they would most likely already have a baby. The zoos raise and sell animals whether you believe it or not. If the zoo is on a certain zoo registry, they have to follow rules on who to allow to breed and when. It's complicated and she may have been sterilized anyway if her bloodline is numerous out there in the zoo registry. Sounds like you're taking it personally. You shouldn't.

@@TedH71 They arent forced to breed in captivity. They're encouraged to but are not physically forced to. If you knew a damn thing about Chimps you would know that their complex social structure doesnt allow for every female to have full accesss to mates. Mating rights are chosen by the dominant male of the troop. Low ranking females are at the very bottom of the totem with very little say in mate selection. Thats why. Now take your chimp black market conspiracy theories somewhere else.

@@MrJameslupien Ted was not promoting a conspiracy theory. It is not a secret that the zoos, around the world, trade and sell animals and they do arrange for who can mate with who. Some female mammals are put on artificial birth control. There are often legit reasons for doing these things in the best interest of the particular species.
