While it is true that lots of people in China feels the pressure to perform and succeed in the educational system, we need to put that pressure into proper perspective. Chinese culture teaches its people to 吃苦, which literally translates to "eat bitter". This is the principle that if you taste the bitter, you will appreciate and eventually taste the sweet as well. It is human nature for most people to gravitate to the easy life and not embrace obstacles and trials. In life there is always opposition to all things. Whether a person can adapt to trials and difficulties in life depends on the person's perspective and attitude. If a person has a love for learning, then the hard work associated with learning is really not hard at all but is something you enjoy doing. Confucius' teachings and philosophy certainly have deep roots in Chinese culture. But the West also has thinkers and philosophers that teach true principles. For example, Ralph Waldo Emerson said this, "That which we persist in doing becomes easier, not that the nature of the thing has changed, but our capacity to do has increased." Your attitude indeed does determine the altitude you can achieve.

This is common in many Asian countries, but also had its drawbacks. For example, many Asian nations aren't taught initiative very well (teaching people how to do things without being told what to do or micromanaged) while it's common in Western nations. It has created a culture where what the teacher says is final, cannot be challenged, and cannot be refuted.

The pressure on the children in the private schools in the UK are the same as in China. There are arguments for and against. My daughter was bilingual when she started in private education, but by the age of 4 she was learning Latin and Mandarin. We moved to Canada as she transferred to the upper school. The Mandarin was swopped for French. Mmmm. She gained a 5 yr scholarship (soccer) in the USA and did Physics. She coped with the pressure, but I have seen children that did not ,and their parents did not help the situation.

Vietnam is very much the same, China remains big brother. A high percentage do not pass the exam from grade 9 to grade 10 and if they pass they can go to a state school. When I was a teacher in China many students complaint that they do not enjoy being young because they had to learn English, German, French and learn how to play the piano. No time to play games on a tablet or PC, that was in 2003 - 2007. Now I expect it to be worse because too much pressure. I often said that there are no kids there hihihi
Sometimes I hear people say that Chinese people are smart, especially when I was studying abroad, but the truth is that we just practice more and work harder. Sometimes the courses I took abroad were even ones I had already taken two years ago in China, so for me it was just a review😅

Yeah, it is truth facts that Chinese brain and disciplinary are connected to the Chinese heritage and Confucius growth behaviour system for 2500 years ago. I am Chinese person and didn't go to Higher Education without Gaokao disciplinary but success to develop businesses so hard working for past 45 years as accounting and litigation technology. As the weight of the different disciplinary, Gaokao disciplinary are too good prosperity, but it is very difficult to catch job opportunities to develop business ideas in the future. Non-Gaokao is also same disciplinary behaviour to get lucky opportunities to catch job or develop more business ideas. The Confucius disciplinary is so important to learn the mind decision-making for the growth of the aging development for next 90 years and Confucius always succeed or not at all times.
