ngl man, controversial opinion, but I didn’t really love the ending. I was really loving the anthology type of thing they were going with for the first 8 episodes, where you just jump from one story to the next, with the serial killer thing in the background. But then near the end, they really started focusing on the serial killer thing and I think the show started getting kindaaaa silly. It went from short, individual, emotional stories, contained within 1 or 2 episodes, to a detective anime. I know the show needed some tension, but I think it was doing it perfectly fine WITHOUT the serial killer. Episode 5 is by far my favourite, and the way they build tension and emotion with the earthquake and the death of everyone he loves is what made it incredible. And I believe the ending with Cheng saving Emma, glimpses of the past lives he visited, could have happened even without the serial killer. Just switch him for a random hitman hired by the company to kill Emma, and the whole car crash thing and suicide attempt can happen in the same way. So yeah, excellent show, almost cried 6 times, but I think the last third of the show just goes in a direction which I did not like.

Great video, but I disagree with what he said at 6:39. Link Click is more than just entertainment. It reminds you to love and appreciate your family, since you never know when you will lose them. In every single episode/arc, they portray different feelings of love between family (Arc 1 - Emma and her parents, Arc 2 - childhood best friends/lovers, Arc 3 - teammates, crush, mother, etc, Arc 4. missing child and his parents, etc). Link Click, as a Chinese anime, has a mostly Chinese audience. So you might need to speak/understand Chinese accurately in order to properly realize just how accurately they portrayed the dialogue and interactions between the characters. The producers put HUGE amount of details in the dialogue. For example in JUST the first episode, you might notice that: 1. Emma’s “country” parents talk to her in an accent while she replied in Mandarin. 2. Her parents call her “bao bei” (baby/precious) on the phone even though she’s a grown adult (in a really close family, Chinese parents will still call you that even when you’re out of college, I would know :) 3. When Cheng Xiaoshi picks up the phone as Emma, he accidentally calls Emma’s mom “aiyi” or auntie at first because in Chinese culture you call older women your mother’s age aiyi/auntie, even if you don’t know them 4. Emma’s parents calling her late at night to complain that she’s not eating good food is loving and extremely nostalgic. You might’ve heard the stereotype that Asian parents show their love through food, but it’s actually pretty accurate (seeing Emma’s parents give her homemade egg rolls was so heartwarming T-T) 5. At the end of the call, Emma and her parents both say “bye-bye.” Bye bye is not the formal way to say bye in Chinese (which is zai jian) or goodnight (wan an). It’s usually only said to people very close to you, like good friends and family. And again, just the first episode teaches you a lot about family. Emma’s working away from her parents at her job in a big city, which a lot of Chinese children in the country/rural areas do (as their parents usually aren’t very highly educated, you can kinda stereotypically tell from the accent). She’s often so busy that she doesn’t even have time to have a heartfelt conversation with her parents or even a good dinner. Later after the company went down and her entire career was shattered, she remembered she still had her parents and rushed to meet them. Even if everything in love is going downhill, your mom and dad will still be there to love you and take care of you. However in the end, we know what happens. Link Click shows how you have to value your family right now, because we don’t know when we might lose them. It convinced me not to work out or study harder, but to take a break from work and school to call my parents for the first time in weeks, to tell my mom and dad how much I love them.

It’s really not that deep. You can literally makes this same long ass type shpeal about any anime that gets shit. The trope of “you don’t know you’ll miss them until they’re gone” and “tell the things you love than you love them trope” has literally been done in a majority of animes. @@CaptainFracture yes, but here it dosent feel (at least i dont feel) stereotypical/overused. idk about other people but i really connected with the story...it feels very 'human' and 'real' in a way not many shows do. its not just 'basic tropes' or overused themes. I feel like one of the reasons Link Click isn't that well known or talked about in the west, is as always with stuff from China, their intended, target audience. Link Click is targeted towards Mainland Chinese millennials and gen Z. This is clear on it's own from the first episode- this is the kind of stuff teens in mainland China in university fears, new workers face, missing home, the vast difference from where they grew up to the city they now live in, caused by the rapidly developing country. This all hits much harder for Chinese teens than any westerners. And the second, there's the earthquake. 12th May. Any Chinese person would stop and realized the weight of that day. 2008, 12th May. The day where an actual earthquake took place in Mainland China and killed over thousands, destroyed hundreds upon thousands of homes. This hits much, much harder for them, for the people who watched this tragedy happen, who had relatives in the area and with how tight-knit Chinese families are this has a much, much bigger impact than you could've imagined. Everything that sets up to it too. The clouds, the accents of the people, the environment and struggles the people Cheng Xiaoshi had to live through, so many of them are so realistic to them, to us. Third, all of these stories, are based of real life, actual events in mainland China. These things have happened. These side stories are real. Someone really lost their son, people actually died in the earthquake on 12th of May 2008. There used to be someone, maybe not named Emma, but have been through the exact same shit. And this hits so much goddamn harder. Thennnn there's the cultural and language barrier. China has it's one set of humour, online words and memes that a lot of westerners aren't aware of due to, well, lack of information or misinformation. And honestly it's a hazzle to translate. Then there's the issue of translators. I have... Yet to see a piece of Chinese media translated correctly as in, in a way where there will be no confusion and the original meaning will be preserved without making it awkward or sacrificing it's original humour. There IS a way to do it. But it takes a LOT of time. And honestly? China has a big enough market for companies to earn a shit ton of money, they can care less about what shitty translations westerners get, it's not like they'll appreciate their work, right? At least, this seems to be the stance they take, judging from their actions. People have had years to understand and get to know Japanese culture. They understand the humour in animes and the general lives of the Japanese, at least enough to sympathise, to understand slice of life animes from Japan and think they can resonate, they can feel sympathy. China... Doesn't have that. People don't understand the details of Chinese culture, they don't know how the Chinese millennials grew up like the back of their hand, they don't remember specific dates that scarred the entire country. They don't know our legends. People know what Kitsunes are, but do they know who 'zhinu' is? Our culture has been closed off from the world due to misinformation, hate and racism for so long. And this all contributed to our media, now finally gaining some attention, not getting the recognition internationally they deserve. I hope this sheds light on the entire situation for Donghua. It's a shame that people dismisses these beautiful works of art just like this... Thanks for reading my rant! Sincerely, someone stuck between two cultures.

@@iruleatgames The average Chinese person accepts slavery and tyranny no more than the average German in the Third Reich or the average North Korean. It's been forced upon them with little room for rebellion. Don't look down on the people, look down on the tyrants who abuse the people. Refusing to watch donghua isn't harming the CCP, it harms the creators who are ordinary people trying to make a living in China. They are no more guilty for the CCPs actions as the average American is for the Iraq War, MK Ultra, Afghanistan or CIA operations
@iruleatgames
@iruleatgames 3 жыл бұрын
@@ManiacMayhem7256 There are two things about that. One, East Asian culture is by its very nature is far more collectivist. The individual is de-emphasized, even in comparatively "free" countries like Japan or South Korea. The concept of face, family responsibility going back generations, and all sorts of other nasty offshoots are a direct result. You can not compare apples to oranges, or you're playing their game. Many, *many*, people in China/North Korea, due to the way they are raised, actively support the CCP, the Kim regime, etc. The tears people cry when Kim I'll Sung died are not fake. Arguing it's not their fault imply that you also see culture that way, as you don't believe they have free will or any agency. I would love to see Asian cultures start to emphasize the individual, I'm all for that. That's just not how it is at the moment. Keep in mind, I'm Asian. I hate that I must say this to avoid personal attacks, but I do. Second, that's the "good Nazi" trope where, "most average people had absolutely nothing to do with the evil that took place". Never mind the fact that the Nazis were actively voted in (contrary to popular belief, the election that mattered did *NOT* have intimidation) and resisted by only a very small portion of the population. It's no different from America either. I hate the New World Order, the CIA, and all those Neo-liberal/Neo-conservative (same shit) wars. Ask all sorts of philosophers, theologians, and just average people if you think being a bystander is just as bad as doing the deed itself, and you'd get answers ranging from "yes", to "it's worse". The classic, "at least evil people have something to stand for". I certainly feel this way. Yes, any American that goes along with tyranny is culpable. Plain and simple. I have a kid on the way, and it's my dream that they grow up free. Free from technocratic, elite banker rule. Free from fascism. Free from communism. Having the freedom to be free. This is something worth *dying* for. P.S. I buy an extreme minimum of all products made in Communist China as possible. That includes paying double/triple for basic household appliances, goods, etc. For me, you can't put a price on slavery, or a human life. Staying away from an anime that directly lines the CCP's pockets is child's play compared to that.

the chinese culture is very much so present in link click that i sometimes have to explain jokes that makes no sense (eg. joke about the guys broken leg in ep3) to my friends. i do believe this is a masterpiece. on episode 5 the mother is very much just a carbon copy of many chinese parents in the way they act react and express. that just makes the death much more sad for me personally. And it has made me more appreciative of her presence. Every story arch was to make me cry and from anime i only remember violet evergarden making me feel the same way. the way they manage to portay humans feels too realistic for a animation as every dialogue sounds like it from a actual person instead of 100's of ehhhhh and ahhhh from traditional anime.

I feel like a lot of people exaggerated while recommending link click, cus it was just so criminally underrated. And it took a lot of convincing to make people watch it. Especially since it’s chinese. I don’t even want to talk about all the racist shit I’ve seen just because I said it’s in Chinese. But it’s really a solid anime. It made me cry almost every episode. And not a lot of Anime’s actually make me emotional. There are a lot of tiny things that stop it from being a masterpiece. But it is my favorite of the season. Anyways, my point is, defiantly go check it out.

Tbh I luv C-animes too especially 'Mo Dao Zu Shi' one of the most beautiful art style I've ever seen when I first watched it, it took me by storm, a totally different experience, so refreshing and so captivating. One thing that I noticed from C-animes is that their 'voice acting' needs a bit more effort it's good but sometimes I feel like they lack emotions unlike in J-animes it's like they have their own life. For some characters their 'voice acting' captures the audience more, than the character itself. "Thank you all the people who explained to me of what I said above."
@foursunsets882
@foursunsets882 3 жыл бұрын
About the voice acting, I think I can provide some context as a native Chinese person. Most of the donghua voice actors are also voice actors for live-action dramas, so the way they speak is closer to how normal Chinese people speak in our day-to-day lives. The emotional weight they put in the voice acting is very realistic as normal people don't usually exaggerate or emphasize every sentence. This makes Chinese voice acting sound less emotional during normal scenes compared to Japanese voice acting because (and I am sure many people learning Japanese have heard this from their teachers) the way anime characters talk is VERY different from how Japanese people normally talk, it is much more exaggerated. Personally, I like the Chinese voice acting the way it is now. They capture the extreme and complex emotions when it is needed perfectly, and the milder scenes also feel very realistic and natural. Maybe because we can actually understand what is being said in donghua but not anime, many Chinese people are fine with Japanese voice acting and exaggerated emotions but find Chinese voice acting with exaggerated emotion extremely awkward. About 5-10 years ago, Chinese voice acting for donghua tried the approach of exaggerated emotions, but most audiences in China did not like it and so the voice acting developed into the way it is now.

Because the Chinese voice acting is closer to the real Chinese people, while the Japanese animate people speak in a completely different tone than the real Japanese people, they will act more exaggerated. In the recent LoveLive there is actually a Chinese character called Tang Keke, her voice actor is also Chinese, but because LL is a Japanese animate, so when she speaks Chinese is also in a more exaggerated tone, so many Chinese people think "what she saying, she seems to be screaming, I simply do not understand"

@@foursunsets882 i guess why they exaggerate it cause it is a fiction story, a story that not always realistic and being an entertainment for keep away from the saturation of the real world so maybe it is intentional. There's actually many anime that the dubbing little bit closer to japanese people normally talk like gibli or makoto shinkai animes cause the voice actor is actor, actress or real kids, not like the usual anime that spesificly for voice actor. It's actually the same for cartoons too some of their voice not always like how people talk. Well i myself prefer how the anime or cartoon do for dubbing cause real people talk are flat. In the end it back to everyone preference. That's why if you guys want to learn japanese through their entertainment, try watching their j-drama, movies or listen to their music that involve real people

Some other Chinese animations are also outstanding. You can try Fog Hill of Five Elements (雾山五行, BEST FIGHTS SCENES EVER), To Be Hero (凸变英雄BABA), To Be Heroine (凸变英雄leaf), Mo Dao Zu Shi (魔道祖师), The Legend of Hei (罗小黑战记) and hilarious Scissor Seven (刺客伍六七). When it comes to 3d animation, I think donghua (Chinese animation) is actually better than Japan-made. Ling Cage (灵笼), A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality (凡人修仙传) have high-level production and a good plot. And there are also some good donghua I haven't mentioned. Some donghua are great and achieve phenomenal success in China, but most people abroad never heard about them. By the way, my favorite animations are actually all Japanese anime (Puella Magi Madoka Magica,Attack on Titan, Made in Abyss, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, EVANGELION ). But as a Chinese, I found that the development speed of donghua far exceeded people's expectations.

Chinese animation started to develop in the 1930s, they used to have a factory in Shanghai and made many works with strong Chinese style, such as DA NAO TIAN GONG (monkey king) and NE ZHA NAO HAI (Nezha Conquers The Dragon King), these animations were very influential at that time, Osamu Tezuka and Hayao Miyazaki had visited this factory. But when Miyazaki was hoping to work with Shanghai Art Studio, China was undergoing economic reform and the factory was privatized, they asked Miyazaki something about piece rate, which made him very disappointed and he felt that the factory could never make better works again. It turned out to be just as he thought, and Chinese donghua went into a slump from the 1990s onwards. Chinese people grew up watching donghua from the "golden age" of the past, but they also watched Japanese animate, so now they produce movies like "MDZS", "Legend of Hei", "The Legend of the White Cat" and so on which are somewhat like anime but completely different. My first Chinese donghua is "king's avatar", a donghua about e-sports, which is rare in Japanese anime. The main character is a 26 year old professional e-sports player who is expelled from his club and lives in an internet cafe,starts planning his revenge. The art style is very much like Japanese animate, but the daily life shown in it is completely different from the Japanese, that's fun.

As a Chinese I would like to add some extra points that foreigners might not catch in why I think this anime is flawless. This anime really tore me apart at times and healed me later before tearing me apart again, toying with my emotions. I think part of this came from some basic knowledge of the fact that I'm Chinese and theres some Chinese idioms, acronyms, dialects, historical context, or even factors of daily life that I can highly relate to and therefore absorbed me entirely. Therefore I figured that I should share some this with you guys to make you guys invested even more into this anime and maybe, view it in a different light then as before. SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!!!!! Firstly dialects of Chinese from different provinces were added(Sichuan etc...), therefore really emphasizing on the realism of the anime. Speaking in a realistic tone is rare to find in modern anime. Therefore, hearing dialects of chinese from poor provinces really warmed my heart. Also, a portion of the stories that occurred came from historical events or real life experiences. For example the Basketball dude came from 2008 May 12, which was the date of the infamous WenChuan Earthquake, that took over 69,000 lives, therefore knowing this context we can really understand why the protagonist felt so helpless and in shock. I still remember when I felt the shock in kindergarten when I was in Beijing, and my mom was crying while flipping through the news, trying to get in contact with our relatives living in Sichuan. l also watched the news reporter on the TV at the verge of tears as she reported the news, at that time I really felt the harsh reality of the world we live in, and Link Click, being able to incorporate this event in and using it to the maximum effect really touched me and earned my entire respect. I'm glad that this anime got so much attention worldwide, because it is an accurate representation of hardships and lifestyles that people go through, not only in China but also across the globe. It shows the people living in villages that are unable to pursue their dreams because of their economical situations and family obligations. It shows women that are so desperate to earn money that they are able to cope with the humiliating actions from their boss. It shows the amount of pressure that was suppressed on people to the extent that they were willing to betray their best friend. This happens around us, everyday, and we are lucky to notice this from shows like Link Click that informs and reminds us about this factor. These are just some specific factors that Chinese people would be able to relate to. Living in this high-pressured society made me shed tears more easily in some scenes than other people and I just really wanted to share some of these points with you. Thanks to everyone for reading this much :)

First person I've seen talk about Link/Click! Also, BOTH the ending and opening are amazing! The opening makes me think of the first ending of Jujutsu Kaisen and the ending song is just...catchy as hell as well. But speaking of music, not sure I'm crazy about the cinema-style music moments they'll sometimes do. The shot will go wide-screen with black bars on the top and bottom and they'll play a sappy ballad. It would be fine in a movie, but when it's done several times in the show to evoke emotion,it begins to lose its effect, at least on me. I also thought the girl with them knew of their powers but she actually doesn't. I want to know how the two guys found out about their powers, how did they meet, and does anyone else in their world have any powers? It's a good setup, but a lot of plot holes that I'm hoping are eventually filled in. SPOILERS!! My favorite story arcs were probably the basketball one when where the dark-haired boy found how he couldn't change the past and essentially lost two mothers from that earthquake. I ugly-cried for him, lol. It just ripped open old wounds and added a new one on top of it. He wasn't alright for awhile after and I appreciate that realism. Next favorite was treated as a side-story outside of the main story but I think they still use a plot point from it in the main story. It was the one where the boy turned man has to fight the father of the woman he loved, starting with a weekly climb of a thousand steps just to even reach her house to begin the fight! For decades he tried and tried and at long last, he was finally given the blessing to marry her. Frankly, that's also rather fucked up, but if I turn off my brain a bit, it was still a really romantic and touching story. The boy with black hair also learned some fighting skills that were later used in the main story, so it did serve a bit of a larger purpose. And then my last favorite was the missing boy arc, just because it too was also heartbreaking. Mainly, the fact that the boy's mother's psyche broke. It's so long before they get him back, you can just imagine the horrors he's gone through as he was trafficked. He doesn't even remember his parents initially when returned either. It was a bitter-sweet story. That probably sums up nearly all of the stories, except for the lesbian story. I think theirs ends with just being sweet :)

Oh goodness no, this doesn't hold a candle to Vinland Saga. Doesn't mean it's awful but these aren't even in the same ballpark as each other so that's an unfair comparison anyways. This could fit in the same category maybe as Your Name, perhaps, sans having a set romance in the plot (it has romance, just not with then main characters. Which, if being very, very honest...I thought was maybe going to be hinted at in the plot and was what drew me to watch it to begin with, lol. Even the opening has the tinest hint that that could be in there but I assure anyone not looking for BL, you're good. Much to my dismay, lol. Still a good mystery anime).

Y’all if I see another “Chinese anime” I’m gonna cry it’s Donghua pls 💀 Donghua is Chinese animation What I’m trying to say is since we call Japanese animations “anime” we should call Chinese animations “Donghua”, b/c if we call Japanese things by what they call it, then it would make sense if we call Chinese things by what Chinese call it. Does that make sense? Because when you tell someone it’s an anime they’re going to automatically think it’s Japanese. But if you say it by a different name they’ll know it’s not.

Link Click might not be the masterpiece people claim it to be but I think it still says a lot about what Anime has become as a whole. Lots of new Anime are stale, recycle a lot and just don't take enough risks ( there are exceptions but I feel like they become rarer with each season ), so having a donghua with a different approach ( even if that's mostly due to cultural differences ) that's also executed well is enough to make people lose their minds IMO. I think it's a good thing though, animation as a whole really does need some fresh wind.
