There is a good phrase that Phil Knight once said "When someone copies you, is a form of a compliment, but when they mimic you, that's where the problems come".
@不会吧-j7n6 ай бұрын
Suppose a product sells well in China (assuming it costs $1), it only has about a month to sell it to make huge profits (assuming it sells for $10). After that, a large number of manufacturers entered the market. Removing shipping and storage brings the price back close to cost right away. Overall, this is beneficial to ordinary people in China. For example, the price of electric cars in China has reached US$10,000. Compared to a $10,000 gasoline car configuration a few years ago, it is simply upgraded by several levels! Another point is that China is a socialist country to the people and a capitalist country (state capitalism) to the world. It does not protect capitalists. Capitalists need to serve the government. The government needs to serve the people (policies are formulated very quickly , and as soon as the policy passes the pilot, it will be implemented nationwide, but it may damage the interests of a few people, but for most people, the impact is actually relatively positive).

Hello, I want to mention that there are an entire sub-genre of games called Wuxia (literal translation: martial arts and chivalry) games out there, from the classic 仙剑奇侠传 (Sword and Fairy) to the most recent indie title 逸剑风云决 (Wandering Sword). These games have a very long history and there are hundreds of them, many RPG and some action. They are seldom known in the Western world because many of them weren't localized into English and culturally not very compatible to western audiences, but very popular among the Chinese speaking population. She didn't mention these at all in her video either because she didn't care enough to do the research or deliberately chose not to because the existence of these games didn't support her argument.

TBH that's pretty ignorant. Ubisoft is a huge company with a massive variety of titles, it just has a few mainstay series in the same genre. But go google up everything they've developed. Its alot. Bethesda actually gets criticized every release for all they've changed. The biggest complaints about Starfield, Fallout 4, and yes even Skyrim was that they were not enough like their older games. They don't reinvent the wheel sure, but they do significantly iterate and try new things and people gripe and kevitch every time. But they still do it. When Back 4 Blood was released, the biggest complaint was that it was not enough like Left 4 Dead 2. God knows how many MMOs released where people went "you shoulda done this more like WOW". You blame the devs, but the devs are innovating and trying new things even in the face of huge pressure from gamers to just do it like the old games.

@@Ralathar44I don’t know enough to talk about the other parts of your comment but for the part about back 4 blood: a lot marketing material for it revolved a lot around name dropping L4D, with a lot of advertising containing the phrase “From the creators of left 4 dead” somewhere. It feels like it relied a lot on the legacy of l4D to create hype, which is why a lot of folks were disappointed when it fell so short of the games it built its whole identity around. At least, that’s my two cents about it.

@@poppintags2280 They didn't have a choice. Their original reveal trailer (REVEAL trailer, before the release trailer) did not have any of that. But the entire internet and all the journalist articles labeled them L4D and noted their creator status anyways. So they had two choices, lean into or fight it. They leaned into it. Now you might say that is a mistake, but the same thing happened to Redfall way before their release. The Redfall devs argued people said they were not a L4D game. The internet and journalist articles called them liars. They released a demo to say see, we're not Left 4 Dead game. And the internet and jouranlists doubled down they were L4D. Redfall may have been a terrible and unifinshed game on release, but that stuff happened before anyone knew that. So basically, there was no winning for Back 4 Blood. They were going to get that label no matter what they did. The fact they leaned into it is just an excuse for people to do what they were already gonna do.
@Ralathar446 ай бұрын
@@poppintags2280 TBH though the thing that really bothers me about the Back 4 Blood situation isn't people complaining about the marketing or the game. It's the fact that the Left 4 Dead community literally waged a misinformation campaign against it, intentionally trying to kill it. And they still are. It's gone on for years. The game lives forever rent free in their heads. They were saying wild stuff like the game has microtransaction (quite literally has zero). And go look at the negative reviews, most of them are just "go play left 4 dead" and don't say anything else useful. Usually with less than 5 hours. If you removed all those L4D review bomb reviews the game would have a great review score and the fact its still alive and kicking today with currently over 11,000 players (they are on sale right now, putting it almost as low as L4D2 prices, usually they have closer to 4k) says despite the attempted sabotage says alot about the fact the game being pretty quality. You can use steam scout to parse the reviews and the review ratio at 5+ hours is really positive.

I am a Chinese gamer. I personally hate Tencent because they rely on their channel advantages to produce a large number of krypton gold games. Plagiarism and cloning have always existed in the gaming industry, but Tencent’s strong channel traffic advantage will make Tencent games more likely to succeed. , due to the rapid development of mobile games and the prevalence of gold-based online games, stand-alone games are not popular in the Chinese market. Manufacturers are also unwilling to develop high-quality stand-alone games, so gradually many Chinese players go to the American Staem platform. All Chinese players hope that more high-quality single-episode games will emerge in China and cultivate this market. This is a good thing for Chinese players, as well as for single-episode game manufacturers and player groups around the world. When there are more and more genuine stand-alone players in China, It will promote the development of the global stand-alone market. Only when there is a market can there be competition, and more high-quality 3A masterpieces will appear. This is why I very much hope that Black Mythology can succeed. That alone ends up making the game play a lot different because you must parry to be able to heal. The artwork is strikingly similar to hollow knight. Not sure if it will end up being a good game or not but I’ll be happy for more games like Hollow Knight if it’s any good. if Deviator looks and feels too much like hollow knight and they don’t do enough of their own work then I think the players will feel that and not like it.

The main point people should be focused on is the fact that copies mean people are learning rapidly. When you go and learn programming what's the first thing you learn? As a native Chinese, I can confirm that most of the video presents factual information. However, the narrative feels incomplete because it lacks the perspective of Chinese players on these facts. Tencent is widely regarded by Chinese gamers as a 'bastard copier,' 'motherless sucker,' and 'the best game company in the world' (said with sarcasm). Additionally, MiHoYo, the developer of Genshin Impact, faces criticism for blatantly mimicking influential games, especially Breath of the Wild. Most PC and console gamers in China look down on these developers’ copying practices. In response, a small group of elite, ambitious, and responsible game developers left companies like Tencent, driven by a desire to create new, original, and respectable games for Chinese players, and, of course, for the world. Game Science was founded with the ambition to tear down the unhealthy, copycat-driven game development culture in China with an excellent game. Due to the poor game development environment filled with copycats and gambling designers, Game Science struggled with a lack of talent in 2019 to achieve their ambition. This is why they released the first gameplay of Black Myth: Wukong in 2020 (the wolf one), an uncommon move meant to attract like-minded developers and resources. Gamers were ignited with hope for escaping the previous subpar games upon seeing the first gameplay. However, other companies in the market did not support Game Science's aims, as they risked losing their easy-money business model. As a result, they offered higher wages to lure developers away from Game Science to halt the development of Black Myth: Wukong. This led Game Science's CEO, Feng Ji, to post on Weibo, '被舔到勃起不能,' meaning, 'All I want are those competent who can fight with me on this journey, but in front of me are too many useless lick-ups (candidate employees).' This statement was accused of misogyny by Rebekah Valentine. Ultimately, the decent side prevailed. Game Science successfully gathered more skilled and dedicated developers, and development resumed with great excitement. This is why they quoted '斗罢艰险又出发' ('After overcoming challenges, we set off again'), a famous line from the 1986 Journey to the West TV programme, at the end of the 2021 gameplay trailer (the white dragon one), along with the programme's theme playing in the background. The story of Game Science is an interesting footnote and analogy to the story of Journey to the West. The video Asmongold is watching attempts to cast a negative light on Chinese game developers, most of whom deserve it. However, these issues have persisted in China for two decades, and this 'person who appears female (how dare I presume their gender)' pointed them out two months before the release of Black Myth. It's definitely a better effort than Rebekah Valentine’s, which lacked facts. So, if you hate the truths presented in the video and want to help eliminate these phenomena, support Black Myth: Wukong. Game Science and Black Myth: Wukong aim to be the gravediggers of the issues highlighted in the video. You are a decent guy with brain Asmongold, I watched quite a few of your videos and basically agreed your analysis, pin me up.

Cloning does not necessarily mean getting the same result. Metastasis was a clone of Breaking Bad and it was honestly such a poor 4/10 that it's not even worth looking into it for nothing more than memes about how poorly executed it was. In that same way, I can't imagine China's plan to clone the gaming industry will work for the better. If anything it will just end up showing how poorly thought out the idea is from the idealogues that push it and will make Non-Chinese video games still the centerpiece of Chinese consumers that are into video games.
@alexejvornoskov65806 ай бұрын
Well their cloning did work pretty good for the better of all gamers - their successful LoL clones for mobile for example lead to LoL: Mobile being developed. Without clones(and Riot being purchased by Tencent) there would be no MOBAs on phones or tablets. Or MMOs and many other game genres, that western companies didnt even think of briging to mobile. Nobody was actually hurt by their clones(beside having to suffer from some really bad ones), as nobody even tried to target some of the markets in first place(or didnt bother to release game in China). Its a crime - but its pretty much a victimless crime.

And only reason they trive in China is because most games arent ready to make changes to apply for Chinese regulations, so vacuum in gaming space is created, that then is filled by chinese clones. But if your game is good AND is released in China, then its becomes a success that doesnt have to fear any clones. So once again - nobody is being hurt. I see no problem with cloning. Its been happening for literally all human history. One tribe saw a bow and arrow, and do you think they will not use it because of ethics and then try and create their own weapons? No. If it works, and they can re create it, they will. That is not a problem. As long as you provide greate customer service and upgrades, you will still be on top. This is what companies should do instead of complaining and whining. You can't escape copies of good ideas. Also many people get the same ideas for so many things and just because one person made it first shouldn't restrict another person in some other place to create something very similar. Ideas have major limits and can only go so far. Often similar ideas are born when 2 people who are completely isolated see a specific problem or are influenced in a similar way. There have been studies of this. For example, in one study, they got a few artists and drove them through the city without telling them why they are doing it. Then they asked the artists to paint a picture. Guess what happened? Most of the artists end up painting a very very similar painting of the things that were placed on rout specifically to catch their attention. All of the artists thought their painting was original to them and was their own thoughts expressed.

As a Chinese gamer, it is true that Chinese game market have serious problem of plagiarism, especially a few years before. Tencent is the most notorious one among the gamers. A famous saying is that whatever you made, Tencent will soon copy yours and you cannot defend your copyright because Tencent is always winning in the Shenzhen Nanshan District court (everybody knows why). However, it is more like a stereotype to say that China Gov has an plan to clone all kinds of game while they do have the plan in the chips and hitech I think. If let me describe the images of the role that the gov is playing in the gaming, it is a conservative and old-fashioned elderly but is irresistible in front of cash (exactly because that is the common figure of the 60~70s generation). People don't understand that China may feel pressured to get to markets fast, but are just fine with taking it slow when it comes to becoming a global power. They waited over 100 years to take Hong Kong and have plans to take #1 position globally.

they have no plans in being number one. all China wants is a world that works together to make the world a better place. its the US who doesnt want to work together with China and spread anti China propaganda in this world. China never wanted to be the number 1 economy in the world. but the US is destroying itself little by little. China can just sit back and see the US go under. so with that China will automatically be the number 1 Economy in the world

They didn't "take" hk. HK was leased to the UK for 99 years as part of a treaty. It was returned to China when that treaty expired.

there's no such thing as stealing a genre. gta maybe created its own genre but saints row didnt copy them. that includes the story, art style, gameplay mechanics, and many more. I'm not worried about any of this. What I worry is them shipping games with spyware. Riot games do it for example.

I mean I think it makes sense for companies to capitalize in anyway they could with loopholes in the law system. IMO as long as a game is not an exact(or very obviously) a copy of another game, it is acceptable. Genshin devs admitted that they got a lot of inspiration from BotW, but having played both games extensively, they are clearly very different games in the big picture but with some similar mechanics like gliding, exploration, etc BUT there are also many games out there that are similar before Genshin even came out. Palworld copied Pokemon, but made it better and added way more fun mechanics and I am sure this is agreed by almost everyone unbiased. Heck even Pokemon copied Dragon Quest. Point is, when companies make a product, they have 2 choices, either to innovate (spending alot of money and high risk) or they can just take what is out there and improve on it and I think the latter is the case for most of the "copied" games out there. Just because Chinese companies from China is more capable and have done "copying" more successfully, they are painted as evil. Now people (especially from the US) are making up excuses on how China is gaining data from Americans with their games, gadgets, etc so they want to find a way to ban those apps and gadgets. Matter of fact is that companies from America and other countries are also collecting data from its consumers so what is the difference? Clearly this is a way to paint China as evil. Feels all like politics to me. Many other companies from other countries have tried to do the same, and because it was not successful, they are not in the spotlight and are swept under the rug.

With the serious lack of creativity, isn't EVERY game just a clone of a previous game? Yes, the answer is yes.
@GeorgeMonet6 ай бұрын
No. Inspired by and CLONE are VERY different. One is someone liking an idea and creating their very own version from scratch. Cloning is when you take the direct assets and code and then slightly change them.

Many Asmon reactions across years are "People don't care about the ethical, they just want good stuff for themselves". That is true, but not for all. And Asmon having a large follower base should come to understand that he could positively influence people as well. The capitalist world is what it is, but sometimes you can make a small conscious decision to make it a tiny bit better.
