Smoking in China
China is the world's largest consumer and producer of tobacco. More than 350 million are everyday smokers in China. Millions more are what I regard as "closet smokers" since smoking by women & children is often looked down upon in public. So, many smoke in private and don't admit that they smoke. Yes, this also includes children who smoke at a very early age in the Middle Kingdom.
China's smoking culture is deeply ingrained & a part of every day social interactions, especially in regards to business.
Smoking is HUGE business & a significant part of the fabric of Chinese social society. It is difficult to imagine China as a smoke free nation.
Yes, expensive cigarettes are a part of the bribery system that surrounds so many social interactions among men.
