During the first launch of the Chinese SpaceX Starlink clone "Thousand Sails", it's was uncovered that their Long March 6A rocket that delivered the 18 satellites exploded in low Earth orbit causing a massive debris field that could impact SpaceX Starlink and even the International Space Station. China's global satellite broadband internet service will consist of approximately 27,000 Starlink-like satellites providing communications, navigation, and remote sensing technologies. Both "Thousand Sails" and "SatNet" are said to be operational next year. Q: I would love to hear what you think about this! So what is preventing a hostile foreign power such as China, Russia or N. Korea from purposely launching “satellites” to the upper threshold of LEO and then blowing up the satellites to create a debris field in order to “salt” LEO making it dangerous and unusable? They could do this as either a tactical deterrent or as some form of retaliation. Who knows, this event itself could be just that instead of an unfortunate accident.

part of living life on Earth involves a test for morality. Like you said, some carry the fibre in their beings that respect all of life on Earth and treat it as sacred. Every move and manoevre is carefully planned and thought out. Any problems involve a review and lessons learned, and lead to an updated protocol that seeks to improve the methodology so the mistakes don't happen again. This has been the way of design and development for countless generations, and then there are the "bootleggers". All life is sacred to those raised in the cultures that embed learning (like the Shewhart Cycle for instance) as a core principle in life. Then you have those that seek to exploit anything and everything in the name of profit and power, with no consideration towards anyone or anything that may be on that same path. Everything is simply a resource to them that can be and is, exploited. Or it is simply an obsticle to be swiftly removed. This is not a finger pointing exercise towards one group, nation, culture, etc. It is simply a comparison of different approaches. It brings to mind the tensions in the plots of Star Trek and it makes me wonder just who did they model the various groups on, including the Ferengi, vulcans, Kligons, Andorians, Gorn, Romulans, Cardassians!

It is amazing that China, a country that serious restricts it's citizens access to the internet would be working on a Starlink clone. Do they expect to sell this service to non Chinese people? What about their government collecting information from their customer's usage?
@teboganАй бұрын
ChiComs are in the space race to trash it. No country will use the service as the signals have to go into the debris field. JB could use his ability to create a vacuum cleaner to remove all that debris, as Amazon is killing off it's sellers to be like TEMU.
@ettchaАй бұрын
Governments like mine (Zimbabwe) would likely have no issues with a Chinese service. It would probably be preferable to Starlink as it would likely come with china like control and monitoring access they'd never get from starlink. It's a plus for them. On the citizens side, all the discussions I've seen of this have people who would be 100% onboard with China if the price is right, privacy be damned. I guess some of that comes from the fact that the worst we've had of government interference is them just straight up turning it off. Maybe tunes will change once we have a taste of great firewall style living, complete with live censorship and cops rolling up to our doors asking why we commented on the presidents scarf 😅

I've often though the solution to this is the equivalent of a garbage shuttle. Send up a reusable vehicle and it basically collects the garbage and drops it in low earth orbit to burn up on entry to the atmosphere. Each entity placing objects in orbit pay a fee per object which is used to pay for the program. That has to be somebody with deep pockets to fund the initial work who would love to get rich being the equivalent of a space garbage company.
@gtw4546Ай бұрын
