How, though, if America has the largest aircraft manufacturing industry in the world? The reason why Chinese shipbuilding overtook America's was because America killed its shipyards in the 90s, but that wasn't the case for aircraft production. There's a lot of talk about how chinese civilian shipbuilding can help china's navy make more ships. Well, America has the largest civilian aircraft manufacturing industry.

PLAAF adopt J31, gives an option to deploy an stealth fighter oversea when time comes, while still keeping J20 close to chest.
@gelinrefira
@gelinrefira Ай бұрын
I think J-20 is still very expensive. It could be cheaper than F-22 or F-35 but it is still a relatively expensive jet for the Chinese. Given that there are so many F-35s surrounding China, they need something that is cheaper, still better than F-35 and they can build in even greater numbers. Not to mention that non-western countries with no access to F-35 can buy them, boosting their capability so it neutralize any pro-western country that bought the F-35 and protecting their sovereignty. The more countries that are neutral or anti-west are able to protect their sovereignty against western meddling, the more China can weaken western hegemony. And they can still make some money, ensure their own aerospace industries remain at the cutting edge, and curry a lot of favor. Imagine countries like Malaysia, Egypt, South Africa, Brazil, Iran, even Mexico has access to a fighter that is cheaper but better than the F-35, it will change the whole balance of power.

@@bigearl3867 arguably yes. Better thrust, likely can super cruise, can hold more weapons, likely higher range, comparable avionics and comparable weapons. It's not losing out in most aspects and is likely better in other aspects. It is time to stop thinking that China cannot make anything better than the US because they are already at parity. This is the 2nd mover advantage, except that China is not that interested in arms market share beyond some political benefits. They can see what the US has already produced and make something that can counter it and suit their national objectives.

Excellent points made my friend. I agree, if China wants to export this plane, it has to adopt itself to show how good it is. Additionally the market is massive for this plane. Most global south countries cannot afford F35 and don't have or want the military connection with USA. In the middle east with Israrel opening talking about wanting Greater Israel which covers Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, parts of Saudi Arabia and Egypt. These countries want to break free from US weapon systems because the ones sold to them will always be neutered compared to what Israrel have from US. These countries will probably actively use J31 sooner than China, giving China the ability to assess the warplane in real combat environment and make improvements.

The j31s might probably take over the current role of the j20s as the j20s will transition to that of a drone command center for their loyal wingman in the form of the twin seat j20s in the future. Due to the j31/35 as late entries, they have the added benefit of entering service when all necessary requirements for China's 5th gens are already met unlike say the earlier batches of j20s in service. Besides the unknown progress on China's H20 and US fumbling on what truly constitutes a true 6th gen, a 5.5 gen would be easier to accomplish with the twin seat j20 and better future proofing.

Yes, there is now a 2 seat variant of the J20 in development called the J20S. This additional seat is speculated to be for a drone operator who will control and manage the wingman drones. This is another perfect example of High/Low setting. No need to have expensive J20 patrol sky all the time during peace time, and reduce its wear and tear over its life span. If J31 can be as stealth as it promised, although it might be slightly slower than J20, it will still give US and Allies a run for its money.😁 They might even get spooked when encounter one in the sky.

I don't think the purpose of J31 is to rival the raptor but rather the Lightning. And we all know that the Lightning which is a multi-role fighter is way slower than the raptor. The lightning II only have a burner unlike this prototype of J31, so the J31 might actually be slightly faster although not as fast as the J20 (Heavy Fighter). Of course, we're not comparing about other fighting and stealth capabilities of this new prototype since we have no exact info on it yet. This model might actually be a development for the mass market to appeal to middle eastern buyers to rival even the Rafales. Just my opinion since J20 aren't for sale.

That may be comrade, but as for the J20 its ground attack capabilities are basically non existent. It is exclusively an air superiority fighter. A few small glide bombs maybe but that's it. The J10 and J16 have very good ground attack options, but tommorow's battlefield may show that you need stealth aircraft which can perform heavy ground attack missions. That's why the US ditched the F22 for the F35. I personally think that that was a big mistake on their part and that they should have kept both, but bottom line is that the PLAAF would benefit from a stealth Multirole. At the same time, it is possible that stealth strike aircraft are a silly concept and that doing ground attack missions with a plane which costs an arm and a leg is not practical. I'm not a general, I can't say.

If us launch a strike on china considering it's carriers based f-35 only have a range of 1.200 km their ships necessarily gonna end up in range of many hypersonic china have so it'll be a sea battle, on china's coast, it can destroy any carrier and military base in range with missile artillery from the mainland so i don't think there's gonna be much of a battle in the air, china's fleet is bigger and better equiped than the ageing us one, the us fleet main capabilities when it come to navy is based on power projection with carrier and amphibious assault ships, that mean a limited number of big targets that are much more problematic to lose than the ship china make because china has a better shipbuilding industry than anybody else it's half the ships produced on the planet, and us ships suit a power projection role, which is strategic to maintain their empire, if China's fleet take damage it's still capable of defending it's shore very well with the help of the ground forces and air forces, if the u.s fleet take damages it's a disaster for their hegemony, so a war with china from the u.s part no matter how many vassal they bring along with them just show the complete desperation to keep their power.

We really need realistic production cost estimates per unit in order to assess the likely doctrinal role of the FC-31. From the airframe geometry alone, it will remain obscure whether the FC-31 resembles the F-35 (originally meant as a 5th generation lightweight replacement of the 1700 units of F-16, but with four times the cost at an unrealistically high price) or the Su-75 (specifically designed as a low-end export of some limited 5th generation features with the entire production line offered to India, similar to the MiG-21). Pakistan's interest points to the latter assumption - exactly mirroring Russian exports within the India-Pakistan balance of power.

The original plan of the F-35 is to accompany the F-22 in battle. The F-22 will be the high-end aircraft and the F-35 will be the lower end aircraft for the US airforce. Maybe the Chinese wants to do that with their FC-31 and J-20?

Would be another platform for PLAAF to test and R n D and Guage certain technologies and trends that dont affect their main inventory??? I dont see the harm in developing more knowledge or developing a backup.... i mean they already know the capabilities to have sanctioned the J35 variant.... so theyve already given the carrier version the big thumbs up... The J20 being the stealthy sniper that currently doesnt seem to have cannons of any sort.... and you know it wont fall into the wrong hands etc if the J20 remains home grown etc..... maybe its a ploy, the J31 may have hints and secrets of the F22 etc.... essentially China revealing and flexing to SAM!? India will now opt to buy the American F-22 and F-35 to counter Pakistan's J-31
@hellothere1656
@hellothere1656 Ай бұрын
They can't because the f22 is not for sale or in production and f35 is only sold to US allies of which india is not considered because of its close relations to Russia and because india bought s400. The US blocked the sale of f35 to NATO ally Turkiye because of fears of s400 radar data of the f35 being unknowingly transferred to Russia. India basically has no 5th gen option at the moment. Indian media even admitted that Pakistan's airforce would be a whole 14 years ahead of india once Pakistan gets j31. A 5th gen be it an f35 or j31 has a 15:1 kill ratio against 4th gens.

there is so many errors in this video, 1. there is no f-16 on top of the j-31. f-16 have a SINGLE vertical stabilizer and the picture clearly have TWO. How can you make that stupid mistake if you going to talk about fighter jet. 2. when you building a prototype you don't build everything all at once. F-35C did not have shit like 2 wheels or folding wings until later on. this kind of video is stupid when this guy is so misleading.

I said J-16, not F-16. J-16 has two vertical stabilizers. Do not make false accusations. Why would you see an F-16 in China? I don't delete comments out of principle, but if I do, yours would be the first to go.

Whatever it is, this jet will be expensive. There is basically no way a country can sell a stealth for less than $50 million per jet. The minimum tag would be around $70 million to $80 million for a J-31 and around $100 million for a J-35.

Everyone who wanted to buy a stealth fighter, but can't get it from the US. Potentially half the world. If I was China I would heavily subsidize these so buyers can get them cheap-ish. Iran comes to mind, maybe even Russia, Brazil, Pakistan, Egypt, Libya and so on. This fighter could give sanctioned countries a) a deep connection to China since these projects are always long-term and b) a chance against the US bully and independence from arms sanctions. This fighter could be for the arms market what Chinese batteries and EVs have done for the civilian car market.

Russia has their own 5th gens and they are very good, but they have lots of bottlenecks with them particularly when it comes to engines. If China wants to help Russia develop their airforce then they should (and they 100% already are to some extent) help with industrial materials, electronics and financial assistance.

Most of the actual specifications for Chinese Jet fighters are private. What we know about Chinese Jet fighters are mostly inflated figures from China's propaganda department. The real performance can be seen indirectly. For example, we can see the actual performance of Chinese Jet fighters in cases such as China-Thailand air warfare training. The performance of short-range missiles is similar to that of the West, but it can be seen that the performance of radars is very exaggerated above medium-range. A large Chinese jet fighter is showing lower performance than a small Western jet fighter's radar.

“Most of the actual specifications for Chinese Jet fighters are private.” also “What we know about Chinese Jet fighters are mostly inflated figures from China’s propaganda department.” These are contradictory statements. If the actual specifications for Chinese jet fighters are classified, how do you know they are mostly inflated figures coming from China’s propaganda department? What if China is actually downplaying these figures and making their jets seem less threatening than they actually are to keep the adversary unaware and complacent? How do you know that your narrative that Chinese aircraft are inherently inferior to Western aircraft was not injected into your thought process via the 1 billion dollars the U.S. spends on anti-China propaganda? As for aerial military exercises between non-allies, most countries either do not use their BVR capability or they limit their radar when practicing with countries who are not close allies. This is to keep the specs about their radar classified. This would explain the “low performance” of the Chinese radars if what you are saying is actually true. So many rumors being spread about the inferiority of Chinese equipment.

are you talking about the report early this year? the grippons vs su-27? that was the only one that was publically made available - and that was in 2019 against su-27's or J-11 - none of which we are talking about now. Also that was only BVR (41 to 9) - once they were in WVR - the su27's had a 25:1 kill ratio. Also, the commentator's wrote - that was a whole ago, and that PLAAF fared better with the J-10C/A variants. Btw, the J-11 uses the N001VE Russian Radar.
