Why did that rumor get started about her mom withholding treatment who would do that to their child

@@MARIANSCATLIFFE It was from a biography- well, really a novel- about Jean called "Harlow" by Irving Shulman. I read it as a young teen, maybe mid-1960s. The way it was written was very believable, and I did, in fact, believe the book that her mother, a religious crazy, withheld treatment, although the reality was that there was no treatment then for kidney failure. That said, Jean's drinking didn't help matters.

Mickey Rooney wasn't exaggerating about the studio's reaction to Jean Harlow's death. In a biography I read of the actress, someone mentioned how the studio commissary was usually a lively place full of tlaking. When the news went out that Jean Harlow had died, someone who was there said the place was silent. For three hours no one said a word. Some of the men who worked at the studio. not movie stars, formed an honor guard to stay up at night with Jean Harlow's body at the funeral home because "the baby", she was known, didn't like to be alone in the dark.
