2008 Summer Olympics doesn't feel too long ago

Here is my humble guess: China will host the Olympics with an audience attending the venues, unlike Tokyo Games, to show that it can pull it off despite the pandemic. But, it won't be allowing any additional foreign visitors, other than the ones already there, to attend for the prevention of any possibility of a leak. Athletes and their entourage will likely be advised/required to get to Beijing a minimum of 28 days for self-quarantine before the games. Very likely the Olympic village will have its own closed ecosystem, completely separated from the public access, to prevent cross-infection vice visa.

However, the numbers from the Delta variant are slowly climbing, so things are gradually becoming more strict again in certain areas of the country, namely Nanjing.
