This video is showing where China is going with the EV. In the west EV is a toy for the rich people to be sold at a premium. In China EV is just a utility vehicle, small, practical, easy to run and affordable by the everyone.

@edukid1984

A "city" in China is rather different from a typical city in the West. They are in fact more akin to small counties that consist of one or several closely-linked urban cores (typically making up more than half of the "city resident population") plus a smattering of semi-rural and rural townships, districts & villages that fall under a single city administration. In some cities, there can be large swath of land area between population centres (within the city) that are sparsely populated. The area that these "cities" occupy can therefore vary A LOT (anywhere from several hundred sq km to 80 THOUSAND sq km for Chongqing, the largest in China by population). It's just how China organizes its territorial administration that stands unique versus the typical structure in Europe and America, and it suits China well - comparability with other countries' cities be damned. But it pays to bear that in mind when looking at Chinese data on city population.

8:19 The fabled 三线城市幻想柱 aka "Tier 3 city dream pillars". Rail transit projects in smaller cities like Liuzhou were halted by Beijing in 2018 a few years back trying to keep a lid on the municipal debt. In Liuzhou's case, the city began construction even without approval from the State Council. Big no-no. The pillars have sort of gained popularity since then as an internet meme. Anyway Liuzhou is doing much better than other similarly sized cities, thanks to the booming auto sector, so hopefully the dreams can come true some point in the future.

Mining is done in mines mostly far away from any urban areas. You can limit pollution in a mine unlike all the air pollution caused by cars in the very heart of a city. There is also the unbearable sound pollution they cause which is the major cause of stress. Unfortunately it is not only the petrol lobby preventing faster ev integration. let's not forget that there is a huge sub industry that relies on ice cars to exist who also lobby against ev's to stay relevant, or to adapt to the new future of car manufacture. They better hurry to adopt instead of spewing gossips and false claims around, because anyone can slap an electric motor 4 wheels and a steering wheel on a battery and produce cars in no time.

I never driven a Chinese Mini EV in reality (as they are not sold in the US), but Forza Horizon 5 has the 2022 Wuling Mini EV Macaron in-game (as part of their Lunar New Year DLC). Fun to drive on very tight circuits even in stock form, though really slow compared to most of the roster (with 27hp and a 62mph top speed, only the Peel P50 and Peel Trident is slower. The BMW Isetta is on par with it, slower acceleration but a slightly higher top speed). Though you can swap it's stock motor for a 235hp motor from their custom-made "Forza Edition" Mini Cooper or a 670hp motor from a Porsche Mission-R concept car if you want unrealistic speed from the mini EV. With the Mission-R motor, AWD swap, and ROBOT wide body kit (necessary for wider tires, for better grip) you can easily go well past 200mph. You can ignore the wide body kit if you wanted, though it will be very tail happy due to it's very narrow tires fighting for grip (even with full racing or drag tires, you will struggle with stability off the line).

I've got a Chinese electric bicycle. Almost all ebikes are made in China these days and they're good quality, well made, affordable and really nice. I can't afford to spend many thousands on a car plus insurance and this bike is freedom in my hilly city. Most people don't realize that ebikes are so practical and economical. I love it! But Beginning June 14, 2024 the U.S. is going to slap a 25% import tariff (tax) on Chinese ebikes and parts which will be passed on to American consumers. This is to punish China for being successful and for the gov. to get more of our money. This really sucks. If you want one you'd better get if fast before the big price increase. Very few ebikes are made in the U.S.and they cost twice as much.

Also, Donald Gump is promising a 10% or more tariff on ALL imported goods if he's elected, and if it's from China it'll be more than 60%. Most economists think this is bonkers. You'll be paying for it. One nonpartisan think tank, Market Watch, says it would be a tax hike of more than $300 billion a year on American consumers ." Trump's proposal of a 10+ percent trade tax matched with in-kind RETALIATION would shrink the U.S. economy by 1.1 percent and threaten more than 825,000 U.S. jobs." Inflation would soar. This doesn't deter Gump who as usual thinks he knows more than any experts.

These are the kind of vehicles we'll need in Europe too. Parking is getting harder and harder even in smaller cities, and instead of trying to fix the problem, car manufacturers are making bigger and bigger cars, which doesn't help at all, especially in eastern Europe, where many parking spots and streets are still designed for the smaller soviet era cars and the idea that not everyone has a car, which nowadays isn't true at all. Many cities started banning cars altogether, but that shouldn't be the only solution. We need cars like these and a new classification, similar to what Japan has with its Kei cars.

ok that was nice... curious to know about the money-side of things... cost, servicing, is there some kind of incentive that has everyone buying those cars...

It's cheap, dirt cheap, not much more than buying a electric scooter but way more safer and comfortable. Nothing really need to be serviced on, and slow charging spot everywhere with almost no cost, and as long as you don't park it in the middle of the road you never get a parking ticket

They do have incentive from the Liuzhou city to encourage people to support the local brand, which is Wuling. The Wuling cars being dirt cheap to begin with means it's easier for locals to hop on than other cities with similar incentives.

EV is so much easier to build and should be cheaper than gasoline cars. There are tons of new EV manufactories in China who do not know how to build traditional cars now build EVs, including electronics company like Xiaomi. Competition inspires creativity, and drives down the price.

Most of the time during week days, the number of passengers in a car you see on the road during peak hours is only one i.e. only the driver. So small cars make perfect sense for green revolution to succeed.
