Chinampas are awesome!!! It goes back before the Aztecs (but the Aztecs mass scaled it) it was the most amazing thing that could have existed for agriculture back in the day, extremely sustainable like an all natural ancient Aquaponics especially when they used reed boats with rich soil from the bottom of the lake to float on top of them while the plant roots will grow down into the water

We did this in Christmas Fla starting 50 + yrs ago at my friends escarpment if you will in the swamp? along the St John's River . My friend Arthur Coats who not by our sides but with us in spirit and was an incredible person who lived with the Indeginous tribes peoples in Panama CA. and taught jungle warfare for the Army but fell in love with a local and went AWOL to her village and they got married and Art was accepted into the tribe and their he stayed for several yrs as the villages thatchman and loved it but seemingly all good things come to an end and was discovered and jailed and sent back to America and not permitted to return or to see his mate and was giving a medical discharge and built his Panama in the swamps of Cen Fla ! I lived with him there in Christmas and it was an awesome experience ! I miss you my old friend ...

Hey Gerald! She was amazing, this whole second tour will be next level. We really tried to feature more tico farmers this trip. Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated ! Ocala is a great area, I have some friends doing great work in the Gainsville area. Have you checked out my videos at with Joe Pierce? He's awesome, the whole North Florida tour is pretty solid. Justins coming with the family to visit towards the end of the month :)

Yo Mr. Pete, all I can say is wow !!! I checked out your Joe Pierce videos like you suggested. Oh my word, the man is an amazing worth of knowledge !!! I know I had watched them before, but this time around the lights came on !!! WHOOT !!! WHOOT !!! My lighting fast mind in action, lol. I have definitely got to get out and tour a few of these awesome sites, if for no other reason than to just enjoy them, fantastic stuff brother. Three years ago I was basically forced into an early retirement, which has turned into quite a blessing. I have 3 acres off of Hwy. 40 in West Ocala that is about 2 1/2 acres of woods. I have carved out prayer trails through the woods and have kinda (1/2 assed) started a food forest, so looking to strengthen my skills in that area. I live mainly off of my small pension and it is getting time to get back into some kind of part time work. I may have retired, but my bills haven't, lol. Anyways I promised myself that if I ever went back to work, it would not be just some job, but something I truly love. Your videos, and other KZbinr's videos have really spoken to my heart to the tune that I know where I belong and that is somewhere with my fingers in the soil. Why not get paid for something you love to do. Of course I don't have to tell you, I'm just preaching to the choir, lol. So thank you so much for your hard work and your kind heart, you trully have helped me to evolve into the next chapter of my life and I can't thank you enough. I pray blessings over your family, business, and ministry, prosperity 2 fold which is health and wealth,. Thank you again for all you do, keep those videos coming, and always ..... pound dirt my friend.

Third... Swamps have rich biodiversity, and the Chinampa system (that is not build on a swamp) rather a wetland (is not the same), multiples the biodiversity. So marsh, wetland and swamp are not the same. There are even iterations of the system in Peru on the Titicaca lake. Thanks!

Sherry Smiley first time I’ve heard this. KZbin is going through some changes on their editing, lots of beta testing going on right now. Maybe that’s affecting it?

Ah the most important part of this is that the Aztecs believed and followed a legend, according to it, they would build their city were they would find an Eagle Eating a Serpent on top of a Nopal (cactus) so when they were offered the swamps areas and saw the eagle they stayed.

Chinampas is a Nahualt word, which is the language spoked by the Aztecs. Sorry, they did not have slaves at the time. The city was built there because the Aztecs were nomads that migrated from the north. They were outsiders. They were thrown to the swamps by the Teotihuacans, or the other tribes that were there at the time. The Aztec came up with this solution to grow crops to feed their people.

"Probably with a lots of slaves"? Well, what to say... you guys need to revise the story you say and the history of the culture that made the Chinampas system. There is evidence that even Olmecs had the system. So Aztecs perhaps inherited the system. At some point it spread in Mesoamerica. Thanks!

Wow, she is SOOOO knowledgeable!!! When you have water in a place like Mexico or Costa Rica anything is possible. I’m guessing the heat, humidity and mosquitoes would make it very difficult for gringoes like me! 😂😂

Being label pedantic, but no one could efficiently enslave people to construct chinampas, absolutely a concept of private property and tribal coercion is politically required instead.
