I mean, there is a big difference between the 2. Open ai wasn't really about the physical robot. It was about it responding in real time and generation answers for things it was not trained for. One looked alive. The other was like a preprogrammed item for the task it was doing.

If you compare OpenAI’s robot to UBTech’s, you will see that OpenAI’s robot moves its torso and legs to maintain balance whereas UBTech’s robot is stiff and locked down to the floor. If you watch the video at 2x speed, you will see that UBTech’s robot sways back and forth when its arms do major movements 6:33 , push against the hood of the car 15:30 , and when the arms return to their starting position 4:19. This is a fair indicator that we are watching a robot that would struggle with manipulating objects of more than trivial mass. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a demo this primitive. Every product needs to start somewhere, but the significance of the demo given the state of robotics at the moment leaves a lot to be desired.

Nitpicking and underestimating China again. That will be the US' undoing. 38% of AI researchers in the US come from China, while 37% are from the US. That's all you need to know. China graduates way more AI researchers than the US does.

The difference between both companies is that figure probably spends billions of dollars, and ubtech doesn't have money to develop great hardware because i can actually see the whole thing shakes giving the impression of lower-end tech, because there are way more advanced robots in China like fourier gr-1 or unitree humanoid

@@juki0h391 First off, its 28% and two, sending more people from your polluted nation doesn't mean they are good at what they are doing. China's best are subpar compared to their American and Indian counterparts in AI but because Chinese overpopulate AI education systems, they will rank at higher values creating the delusion China is catching up which statistics cannot see. Most of China's AI they are using and publishing is fake or open source they stolen and modified. The CCP even aired on their gov program an AI that was using URE4 3d modeling to render a Ai which was voiced by a non Chinese woman in a live performance and this was not long ago.

Modularity secured by magnetics is actually an impractical idea, and It's also moving and responding a fraction slower than the competition.

The magnetics could be complemented with some additional mechanical attachment. I think it's a really cool idea, it could make it possible to choose from a wide array of components and the robot can easily replace parts/modules by itself.

The question isn't who can build them better or first, it's who will implement them in their economy in a way that will completely change society as a whole. At the end of the day, it's all about money. Will the US adopt these on a mass scale, or will China? I can definitely see China adopting these machines on a mass scale, but I don't know about the US. There will be protests from unions to prevent this from happening, and will the elites even want this to happen. They are perfectly fine with the way things are. They can just bring in more workers from other countries. China on the other hand will have to think about their economy going forward. They will need more labor force. If China does adopt this in a mass scale, they will have to think about UBI for sure.

Thanks for the Video Wes. This demo is decent. I worry that these demos seem to imply that the operation is "Human Speech to Robot Action" and that the screen is just showing the words -- but I do worry that it is actually Human Speech to "a separate processing system (not robot)" followed by Text to Robot UI to Robot Action. So, I am "unsure" at this stage whether the robot is actually being verbally commanded or not. (especially given that the speech was a different language than the UI which was English) It totally doesn't bother me that the robot grabs the seat-belt in that way... that is good news that it does! I do worry however that all the objects had the same basic shape and orientation when it was picking the modules up. They demo would have been more effective if the robot had to pick up objects of different sizes, shapes and orientations. And it didn't help that it sort of "dropped" them on the tray into a sort of odd position, and pushed the objects out of the way during placement. It is hard to say if that was purposeful or not. There's a lot of potential here tho.

The person moving the object at 9 min were to show that the robot could handle shanges. You can see that it thinks one second extra before moving that box. A good demo, I think. The robot doesnt move smoothly enough, or fast enough. And it does seem to hold the body rigidly. I also think it's limbs are too thick, which probably means it's actuators aren't ready for manufacturing at scale.

That modularity and upgradability is something I don't understand more of these companies are not doing more. It's the only way to ensure your product is up-to-date and as emergent as possible in the rapidly evolving field. It's how all these robots should be designed, so that they don't become obsolete in few years or even months.

The module design seems rather impractical in this case. The magnetic design introduces weight limitations. Folding clothes is not a very complex task, especially if the shirt is placed conveniently flat on the table.

As you point to in the factory over coming horizon paradoxes is the big deal ,getting mobile with free skills to manipulate local systems to evolve how they * designer' sees fit is key. It will break natural mechanicism theorys at that point. I'm looking for when they can walk up to any setup & and environment, then perform the tasks at hand. It's enormous value in programmed replication of any and all operations that we've used even before the transitor age has began .. We can design non robot machines to do these tasks at high rates of speed but it involves manipulating the environment while the inertia frame of reference is stationary or x,y,z,t. In some flow of direction.

My first critique is somewhat subjective in that I don't really feel like this robot's gears are turning. A critical part of the Figure 01 showcase was the human not describing the environment and having the robot intuit what needs to be done. This, on the other hand, simply feels like a robot following instructions. Additionally, the movements are rather dubious and seem like a person trying to mimic a robot whereas Figure 01 is endowed with the graceful machine soul.

And should be covered with rubber for friendly body. Handling and movement still needs improvement, also parts must be easily removeable that why the tech is behind. Also gear can used for movement, shocks, alot etc... Need to be adjusted built. Alot missing for now In a right part. That why I wanted from robots all I long missing a typing robot that can operate phones and most devices.

Hopefully they'll replace my job in the next couple years. I don't yet think it could do mine, but give it 3-5 years I think we're there. Remember that all traits that are good of one of these bots can be copied to other models, so even if the only good thing about this one is it's arms, it's still huge progress. If we could get one with better legs and superior reasoning, all garbage jobs like the one I work are gone.
