Somehow Dave has the best channel on youtube. Entertaining, informative, thought provoking, artistic, productive, relaxing, and that's just a small list of words that can be used to describe this channel. Keep up the excellent work Dave,, oh and Penny Black CD is great, Someday Id like to hear the story on why it never really took off.

If you fans haven't seen this video, and if it's still up, watch it. Dave's humor is top notch. I wish Dave had more crazy neighbors. 😆😆 8:39 Dave I was drilling a Tele body Buddy & I made with a long series drill. The depth limit gauge I had on the tool was slipping unseen slowly up the helix as I went in until "Ooops!" With the wood chips up came some blue carpet from underneath the body. Deep enough!

You are a true craftsman, you will find a fricken way, even when stuff is ridiculously wrong. This guitar would have ended up trash or a wall hanger if it wasn’t for you, and I’m sure if it was taken for repairs anywhere else , they would have said , Sorry but this is not fixable .

Not sure I like the brass plate ground plane for the controls vs the hard wire method. It will work fabulously at first but over time, brass tarnishes badly and it doesn't take very much humidity for that to happen. Spent some time in the Navy and saw the effects often even on shore installations. Tarnish will Gooch a ground connection in a NY minute. However, I have zero experience using it as such in a guitar application. Since I know you wouldn't Gooch a ground on purpose, would you explain why you prefer this over traditional and do you have long term experience with this not failing. Very interested as it is a much neater way of coupling ground through multiple points. Thanks!

I get these for under 300. The Epi is 800-900. Add a 3rd pickup to a epi or a better LP is easier. Its kinda Acey..
@alaindore4144
@alaindore4144 6 жыл бұрын
Let me see if I got this straight. The brass sheet acts as a common ground for all the pots. So can it also be the grounding point for the pickups, bridge and output jack? Seems like a perfect way to simplify the wiring in the Ibanez SR500 I'm refurbishing (that is a rats nest as your next video shows). By the way, I think I'll use aluminum instead of brass...it's a better conductor, cheaper and easier to find.

Hi Dave do you have any fret removal videos and if so can you post a link. I have an Epiphone SG that I did a fret level on earlier this year while on a luthier course (our teacher taught us practically nothing, we'd be lucky if he was around for an hour out of an 8 hour day) but it is already showing noticeable dents in the frets. I'd like to replace the frets without doing any damage to the fret board. Installing the frets is no problem it's just the removal of the old ones that I'm worried about, thanks in advance :)

I thought body-mounted switches (Les Paul, 335, etc) always used a "deep collar nut", unlike pickguard-mounted switches (which can do with the normal nut). www.philadelphialuthiertools.com/electronics/switches/nickel-deep-nut-for-switchcraft-toggle-switch-fit-gibson-guitars/ Or, you can go ahead and chuck the wood but for 2.50USD you can take the high road.

Everytime i think about buying a cheap les Paul knockoff , watching Dave changes my mind,.... although the reviews on the new Gibson inspired epiphone guitars all seem to rave about them,.. 600 700 buck epiphone or 1900, 2500 buck Gibson ? Could get a studio cheaper 1500 ....i guess it comes down to the body, solid , with real cap, or two or three piece with maple but veneer flames...?
@tednugentlives
@tednugentlives 3 жыл бұрын
Frankly its not worth the extra 400 to make it play decent. I will use it as a mule for pickup testing and stage diving. The Epi 1960 tribute is the best bet at about 500 used. Or maybe the Supreme. Its playability is very close as my Gibson standard, i have all 3. My hamer Satf from Indonesia is a close second.
