A company in eastern China’s Jiangsu province designed wearable airbag jackets to protect
the elderly from tumbles. It has a chip that monitors changes in posture in real time. The protective system can react within 0.18 seconds if it senses a potential impact, and releases miniature airbags.

I wish this would be available more immediately. My grandma took a severe wound to her head because she fell. My other grandma (the sister in law of the first grandma), fell too and was rushed to the hospital. Very risky since its Covid and hospitals are full. Though we're NOT sure if its linked, the first grandma was diagnosed with alzheimers whilst the second one is now in heaven.

I wish this existed when my grandpa was alive, he was always working on something in the house and doing chores and fell so many times even though we tried to always be by his side. One time he fell on his face and from then on had so many operations in one eye... Or my grandma who fell from a chair when she was dusting a shelf and became bedridden for the rest of her life with intense back pain...

This sounds great! I'm a senior and would definitely wear this as the last thing I want is a head or neck injury, and a broken hip or to injure my back! If wear it I was taking a walk, cleaning house, etc. Where can I buy one? This is also great for ANYONE who has just had surgery, certain injuries, is prone to tripping falling or losing their balance:) Saves you from going in the hospital, better independence, mobility, confidence!

This is just one of those ideas where some people go, "Wow, I should've thought of that." What a great invention. Lots of elderly people can easily slip or trip, and that can easily cause serious injuries. I see that they only have jackets though. I wonder if some sort of knee pads would be possible? Or maybe even trousers? That would give their legs protection too. Overall, really cool and practical idea!

Wish my grandfather had one of those...it is to late for him now. He didn't died, but the recovery took about 2 whole years, can't control his sphinters due to the shock in his column due to the hit on his nervious system, has a hard time trying to walk, and had to spent all day lying in bed, which caused a whole other of desieses, infections and other problems. And due to the lack of movement, he has lost all of his energy, he barely can be awake for up to 3 hours a day. My father was practically traumatized for all that happened to his father.

They are different inventions. The one Hovding made is only a HELMET, and designed for motorcyclist, which is speed triggered like car accident air bags. But this Chinese invention is designed for elders, and include the most important ------JACKET, which is triggered by the human acceleration of postures, a totally different algorithm.

The funny thing is..Even if you come with the most unique idea you have ever come up. There will be hundreds of people who already thought of the same. And few of them work on that concept. The "cycling airbag" has been around for years on end now with the main target group being...elderly people of course. This is the exact same thing...100 percent. Noone "designed" anything new here, but rather copied it and distributed it to a new market. Nothing newly invented, just copy and pasted.

the trigger system is different, Hovding trigger by speed sensor which is useful for a biker that has a sudden change in speed. but for a person falling it could not detect it.
