This is awesome I literally just ordered a diesel heater before I saw your video and I was thinking about doing this exact thing. I’m a mechanic and I also do my own oil changes. My truck holds 12qts of oil and is equipped with a 2 micron absolute bypass filter, so hopefully clean oil shouldn’t be a problem for me, as for as the mixture I’m very excited to see your findings.

With that coil around the exhaust to pre-heat the oil, keep in mind that the flash point of motor oil is (usually) over 400F, for diesel it is around 100F, and for gasoline it is -45F. Maybe modify your fuel lines so that only the used motor oil blend goes through the pre-heating coils?

Very nice setup and video. Funny thing is, I ordered my diesel heater from Walmart just about an hour before finding this video, and I had planned almost an identical set-up (two tanks, each with on/off valve, inline filter, etc.)! Like you, I plan to start the heater on pure diesel, switch to waste oil blend, and then end operation using pure diesel again (to be prepped for the next use). The filter I ordered has a water separator, which is one of the few differences to your setup. I had not considered winding the fuel line (using metal tubing) around the exhaust, but preheating the waste oil blend makes sense. I wonder if that is necessary as long as you are blending the waste oil with diesel or gasoline to keep the viscosity reasonable? I'll be watching your future videos to find out! What can you tell us about the screen you used in your funnel to strain the waste oil mix? I might like to get one. EDIT: I found the answer in one of the other posts: King Kooker PF10 Disposable Paper Oil Funnel Filters-12 Pack, OS, Multi a.co/d/96IcGeO

I think the biggest secret to running these things on other fuels is run it wide open all the time otherwise they are going to clog up way quicker
@cliffelmore5834 Жыл бұрын
I think that running wide open definitely helps. There is also no way around getting deposits from the oil. Using waste oil is just nice to get some "free" heat.

i think you on to something here. pre heating the oil mix will make it burn easier.. what temperature will you get if you burn it on full power and off alpine mode? i would think that if you get the temperature up the carbon will burn away
@robertedwards872 жыл бұрын
love the video :) however ive being watching these diesel heater videos for the past couple of weeks learning all i can before installing one in my home,and from what ive learnt i would go with a 1micron filter as this would stop more crap blocking the Glow Plug Burner Strainer Screen and reduce carbon build up in the burn chamber.im not sure if this would made any differance but my set up will be something like yours with both a black oil tank and a clean diesel tank,on the start up and before turning the heater off i will be using the clean diesel as its easier for the start up and hopfully by using clean diesel for the 30mins/1hr it will burn some of the deposits off before i shut it down
@highlandhoneyfarm58522 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the update. I'm curios about your internal temperatures? My heater runs around 208C on position 6 in normal mode and runs around 195C on position 6 in alpine mode.

@@Storman77 Yes, i have just been reading up on how to get to it and use it. Apparently, the access code for all of these is 1688 and to get to it you have to press the menu button three times. Have you tried going into the service menu we have the new controllers supposedly that only have a three digit password the other units have a four digit password and others posted that we can change the pump rate min max possible code 987 to be able to enter service menu password hold okay and power until flashes three dashes then put in 987 when I do nothing happens but if I hit the okay button it goes back to previous display I tried 000 to 999 and the only one that did anything was 987 so I may have locked myself out and fan RPM so you could set the fan to a higher RPM and change the max pump rate so it doesn't get too hot I'm also meeting somebody to verify that code works or not

Its for fuel preheating so it ignites easier
@timlong14622 жыл бұрын
Preheating fuel oil is super common. Every boiler burning fuel oil # 4-6 is doing this with similar heat exchangers in the exhaust. The temperature it’s reaching in the coil is not nearly high enough for combustion, just helps atomization. Even if an oil leak developed nothing would happen except it’d smoke. It takes a lot more to actually ignite.
