Many have paid attention to American efforts to partially decouple from China, but Beijing has been pursuing a much more extensive economic decoupling strategy against the United States for more than a decade. Meanwhile, China faces increasingly serious problems and obstacles regarding its geo-economic approach, largely because of structural weaknesses inherent in its political economy. So the US and its allies still have considerable leverage and remain well placed to ensure that they can decouple from China on favorable terms.
Please join Hudson Institute for a panel discussion with Hudson Asia-Pacific Security Chair Patrick Cronin and Senior Fellows Thomas Duesterberg and John Lee. They will look at China’s actions and broader strategic objectives and consider Beijing’s strengths and weaknesses. The panel will also explain how the US and its allies can craft a realistic response that takes advantage of their strengths and exploits Chinese vulnerabilities.
The event will launch Dr. John Lee’s monograph, Understanding and Countering China’s Economic Decoupling Strategy from the United States.
