1:20 I lived in China for 10 years. I never take off my shoes. Chinese culture can be challenging, as I understand the nuances of what a beautiful woman means, and I must say she is right.

In France you have to ask others before taking the last piece and you may have a trollish relative.

I feel like one major item missing from the “do’s and don’ts” list is the importance of numbers in Chinese language and culture e.g. never use the number 250 (二百五)in speech etc. that is something that many foreigners may not be used to and may not even consider as possibly offensive. The reasons are similar to that of not gifting clocks but numbers are a little more abstract concept that clocks to most people I guess:P Also on a different note it’s worth noting (especially for Chinese language beginners) that the chrysanthemum (菊花) which was mentioned in this episode is a very important and widely used flower in China and Chinese culture such as chrysanthemum festival or chrysanthemum tea (菊花茶) but tread carefully when using the word as it’s also common slang for butthole 8) Great episode, looking forward to seeing more:)

Perhaps a native Chinese would be best suited to say what the most appropriate circumvention of the phrase is but what I personally do is substitute 二 with the measurement version of 2 -"两" thereby making it Liǎng bǎi wǔ instead of Èr bǎi wǔ. Perfectly understandable and non-offensive. In case anyone is wondering - Èr bǎi wǔ is everyday slang for idiot/imbecile/stupid person

I'm German and when I give a gift on birthday or christmas etc. it's common to wait until all the gifts are there and for the birthday child to publicly open the gifts in front of everyone. At least I want to see how the person reacts (and I'm also a little curious what the other people gifted.) The person who recived the gift will then imideatly thank the others.

I love Chinese culture. Wish I could go there to train Wushu San Da. Their history is just so intriguing to me. And I love their philosophical approach. Wanna visit one day. Wondering what the expense is like?
