I am from Bhutan and Tibet and Bhutan share similar culture so I am very familiar with Tibetan music and dance . I visited China in 2011 and the university put on a show with ethnic minorities dance and when the Tibetan dance came on, I was shocked beyond my belief . The Tibetan tune , dance moves and everything had been given a chinese twist and looked so “sinicized “. The Chinese are definitely trying to assimilate ethnic minorities . The dance didn’t even look tibetan . The men’s haircut was done like the ancient Manchuria men haircut with half of the head shaven 😂 my chinese teacher asked me “ did you enjoy the Tibetan dance “ I frankly told her ,” this isn’t tibetan but a Chinese dance “.

First,there are about 56 ethnic groups in China which they called themselves as Chinese.Guess you want to say Han Chinese since They're the majority race in China.Second COM ON most of us used to it!Seeing teacher making morden dances and thinking Chinese government trying assimilate them....they're Chinese thought so we dont need to assimilate them btw the dance you've seen also not Han Chinese dance sorry lololol!Sometimes TV station may show the Traditional dance of minority races in China like Tibetan dance and my favourite one,ngonpa rigna(hope I spelled right)Instead of only seeing one performance how about move to China and live for about 3 years first before making decision saying Chinese trying to assimilate minority races lol?Many Hans trying to marry with girls from minority races so they can get priority like them which government did it due to poverty and many of them still living at mountain areas you know that?

Sorry for it hurting your feelings. I believe the dancers loved Tibetan dance and culture, tried to learn, and showed them on stage for audience who might love them too. At least they didn’t want to offend anyone. Think about African American music and dance. Multicultural integration is based on love. If I was you, I would appreciate it. Just like if I was a native English speaker, I would appreciate your speaking English instead of mocking your grammar or accent.

The dance and music capture the element of Tibetan dance. It is not an exact replica of Tibetan dance. Every dance needs to be evolved and Chinese add the Chinese elements.
