Hi Olly, I recently fitted the same mister to my lathe, not used it a great deal yet as I have been machining aluminium lately but pleased with the results it has given. Regards Del.

It's a great bit of kit, but I agree generally not necessary for aluminium. I've been doing a lot of steel lately and it's great, gives a really nice finish (assuming one is using decent steel!). I plan to do an update on it at some point.

Looks like a good addition...

Got my misting unit yesterday from Fleabay, it is a one valve system but will probably be modified eventually. It's already mounted on the lathe and connected to the air supply, I just need to plumb it into some coolant now....I am going for a pressurised system like Tom at OX Tools, so that I can have either air on it's own, air/coolant mix or flood coolant with no air.

Thanks for dropping by. Sounds good to have all 3 options. I have tried flood coolant, but as my shed floor is wood, I wasn't keen on using it too much.

@@ollysworkshop Just a little update on my mist cooler. I finally got it all working, using a 2 litre pop bottle as reservoir (see OxTools for details) the system works brilliantly. I can select the dry air or a hint of soluble oil in air or a full flood of oil. The 2 litre bottle does run out pretty quick on flood but I have an option for electric pump from a larger reservoir and return drain any way. I find the merest dribble of oil and low pressure air (15 psi) the best combination so far.

I purchased that one, cheap works well

I've never used one of any sort before, only flood coolant. It does basically the same job with a lot less mess.

Are you still liking and using it? Does it get mist in the air? I'm thinking about trying out mist coolant. How much coolant do you go through?
@ollysworkshop2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mick. Short answer is yes I like it, and no it's not really a mister, more of a droplet spitter. I was thinking of doing an update to it as it needs a slightly different mounting arrangement to make it a bit easier to position the nozzle.

Interesting idea. Another project added to the never ending list 🥴😂

It's a good addition, and if you've got an air supply, definitely worth getting one. I mainly use it either to get good surface finish, or when machining particularly hard or difficult materials. I have been thinking about some upgrades to the mister, but the project list is so long it's not funny anymore!

@@ollysworkshop I hear you. My project list is now a cause of personal stress. I felt less stressed at work! So much for retirement 😂

I found it difficult to get projects done, so I decided to make videos. Once other people are interested, there's much more incentive to get on and get them done.

@@ollysworkshop I understand that, and indeed have been filming many of my recent projects. Whether I end up publishing them all I don’t know, but they sure have helped my motivation.
