You gotta be kidding me! I was literally looking at my Chinese money plant today and thinking, "I wonder how you propagate that" and before I could look it up BAM! This video pops up 🤯

I got one from Home Depot a few months ago for $8 and the leaves are huge! I love how unique this plant looks

i also find pilea pep less than super easy. i moved mine into more light and it looks better but it is no thriving monster. i always check with a thin bamboo skewer inserted gently to the bottom of the pot and only water if it comes out clean. (i’m also dicey about when a cake is done and rely on the toothpick in the center, haha). thanks for showing how this fella roots!

I just ignore mine. And since I have a Bonnie (curly kind), it basically tells me when it needs water. When the leaves are not curly anymore, it's time to water. It looks like its hair went flat and needs a wash! Lol

Don’t feel bad I had a pilea that was growing BIG with tunes of babies I just the other day I had to remove them all and cut off the mother plant like you did and start all over but the babies that I left with the nub are doing great and waiting for roots on the water ones 😉

Granted, this is a new plant for me, but I've had really good luck so far. I leave it in the plastic nursery pot, and when BOTH the leaves are a bit droopy and the nursery pot is very light when lifted, I water. I do this by filling a small plastic rubbermaid-style container with water (so it's high enough that it covers the drainage holes well) that has been sitting out for at least 24 hours. I then put the pilea's plastic pot in and let it sit until it is no longer floating and I can tell by lifting it that it is holding water. Mine seems super happy with this routine so far.

For me, I've lost a lot of plants because I think they need to be watered. I have learned since then to touch the leaves and feel how plump and firm they are. This goes for more succulent-like leaves like peperomias and pileas because the leaves will let you know when they need water. I completely disregard how dry the soil is. This has helped me a lot with keeping "easy" house plants alive longer :)

I have a pup in propagation right now and two of the leaves fell off. 😞 I hope it survives so I can pot it!

One of my transfers used to whither away so I moved it behind a window and now it's doing better. I also stopped watering it as much as before.

So how often will you water your pilea that rooted in water? That's the part I'm never sure about. I know you should acclimate it to soil, but also petrified of root rot since that was the original issue.
@codielane3 жыл бұрын
Right good question. I have no idea. I would probably acclimate it as usual.

My pilea has had the bottom leaves turn yellow and drop off two years in a row now. Then it pops all new growth from the top and starts new babies. I haven't repotted it but it will need to be in spring.

I think the one that is a stump will do juuuust fine! I got one for my bf and he accidentally left it in his car all day on a 90 degree sunny day, all the leaves were black and fell off. But the stump ended up growing a ton of plants off of it, and now it is THRIVING. Also, the leaves on mine look like that when I have it in direct light for too long. Not sure where you keep yours but it seems like bright indirect is the way to go. I can't wait to see yours grow! :)

I propagated mine in water too. I may need to do it again, it's a frustrating plant. I've also never gotten one single "pup" in the 2 years that I've had it.
@jennavanburen94734 жыл бұрын
My problem with my pilea is the cupping leaves. I had it in an area with low light, so I gave it more light. I thought I was overwatering it , so I started to back off. It still looks awful, but it pushes out babies like crazy, so I'm experimenting with those.
@lgarden70864 жыл бұрын
I bought a very full plant and decided I needed to separate and make more of them. 😀 I have 3 now and I’m not sure if that was a great idea looking back on it, but one thing for sure is I’ve been learning from this guy! I cut one that was looking very leggy, put it in water, grew roots, and replanted back in the original small clay pot I cut it from which in the meantime grew an adorable new baby at the base. My idea was to make it full, but I think it would have been better to plant it like you did to acclimate it back to soil again....it’s struggling in the soil I’m aiming water at the roots so it stays moist so we’ll see what happens. I have two others that are doing okay so far

@kcototheyoyoyo4 жыл бұрын
If it’s still green it may need water. Try to focus the water on the rootball and get the soil moist not wet. If leaves are yellow and drooping it is overwatered
@oneofeverything98204 жыл бұрын
@@kcototheyoyoyo thank you! It's a Marble Queen Pothos. The leaves aren't drooping so I think it needs more water. Well... actually, does it need more water? Or more humidity? (Meaning should I mist it more??)
