Chinese New Year 2020 - The Spring Festival is the lunar New Year in China - Learn Chinese Culture
Some people or families today may don’t follow the Chinese New Year traditions or practices of the older generation. However, it’s still good for us to be mindful of our manners if we celebrate the Spring Festival in China or overseas Chinese places like Chinatown, so that we won’t accidentally offend a Chinese elder or friend. Some traditions are built around moral etiquette, while others have a more superstitious basis. In this episode, we will talk about some traditions and taboos of Chinese New Year, that is, what to do and not to do during the Spring Festival. Which one do you like or do not like?

this kind of subtitels is super useful! to have de hanzi, pinyin, and english all together while they are calmly and clearly talking is very nice. i dont speak enough chinese to understand what they are saying, but with the words i recognise in the subtitels and google translate its a fun exercise

我也是第一次听说这个习俗，但我们当地平时也很少喝粥，过年没见过喝粥的，通常过年早餐会吃汤圆和鸡蛋，正餐不会吃鸡蛋和汤圆。正月不能理发家里长辈倒是常提，但是越来越多的年轻人已经不在意这个了，很多人还是会在正月间理发的。

我是中国人，我也是第一次听说这个。从字面意思来看，以及我对中国文化的了解，大概是这样的:粥是很少的一点米煮的，里面大部分是水，中国主流传统文化是农耕文化，以前因为穷，很多家庭吃不饱饭的时候就只能放一点点米煮粥喝，如果大年初一就喝粥的话，代表你一整年都要受穷，都要过穷日子，所以为了寓意新的一年里不再过穷苦日子，大年初一不能喝粥。
