I bought this exact Bakelite side folder in ‘89, literally days before the ban. A buddy of mine bought the full stock version with a milled receiver. My side folder did not ship with a bayonet, his full stock version did. Rifle, green canvass sling, 3x30 round mags, oil bottle, and owners manual in the box - $350 I still kick myself for selling it in ‘93 for $700, but I was in a tight spot, and had other firearms. I shot thousands of rounds through that rifle with no issue. These were the surplus Chinese military rounds that came on the stripper clips in the large tin with corrosive primers, so you had to clean it every time you shot it. I think they came 550 rounds in the tin for $90. One of the reasons I parted with that rifle was because I couldn’t find inexpensive ammo for it after the ammo import ban. Only thing I could get locally was Federal hollow points in 7.62 for $15-20 per 20 round box. Obviously this was before you could buy ammo online. Definitely short sited to part with it, and I certainly regret it.

Awesome video sir. I purchased one of these Bakelight folders in the 80's. I wish I had knowledge of working on firearms back then. I did not like the bayonet and could not remove it. In order to not damage the rifle and recoup my investment I sold it due to not liking the bayonet. I am so sad I sold it. It was my very first AK'S I ever had. But never could purchase another, since the Poly's are hard to find and prices went sky high. Quality wise it was the best AK I ever had. I've decided to put a Poly on my bucket list. I've been able to find my other bucket list items. This Poly goes to the top of the list. TY for your video.

Milled reciever, beautiful parkarized almost blue looking reciever. They hacked off the bayonet lug. No cleaning rod, the end of the barrel has 1 x 14 threads no dee tent. I got it never fired a women was getting rid of her husbands collection after he passed . The mag in the box says polly china. I made a few mods to it and the adapter i had to get was one that would fit a polly. I first ordered the wrong one. The guy from the place i reordered the adapter told me he has only seen like three other mak 90's like that Anyway i have some molot vepers a sam7sf and a few zastavas and none of them have the trigger i have in the mak 90, and when you rack the charging handle back and forth a few times its like butter. This folding stock works better with a bayonet than the underfolder stock, especially with the blade type that comes with it than the spike type. Also, the original PolyTech magazine has 3 witness holes in the back that you kind of can see how full the magazine is to the extent 10, 20, or 30.

Your video was very informative. I own one of these, so I did some research. I discovered it was estimated that less than 500 total of this model were ever imported into the U.S. prior to the ban being implemented. The first group (which this rifle falls into, based on being a serial number ("158"). The serial number on my Polytech is 160and has the standard AK-47 style grip. The side of the receiver is correctly marked with the Chinese markings of a "triangle with 46 inside," most were made at factory "36." The rifle has MODEL AKS-762/ CAL. 7.62x39mm" with "POLY-TECH, BEIJING CHINA," "IMPORTED BY K.F.S. ATLANTA," which is consistent with what you shared. My question is, what is the estimated value of my Polytech, which is in MINT condition if I decide to sell it? Thank you.

Thank you all the info. I'm glad you liked the video. That is awesome you have one of these. I love mine! It depends on the people bidding at the time....but I have seen these go for 3,000-3500 on gunbroker fairly recently. New in box maybe 3750 or so. There arent a lot of these listed for sale, so the price can vary depending on bidders. The very least I could see it selling for is 2,500 -2,700 ( on a bad day). With any preban, the original box adds 250-300. I do not have the box for mine, and it has been fired.

I have a Poly Tech Legend under folder that I bought direct from Kengs back in the day. Brace yourself, I modified it. Ha ha- don't worry, did nothing that can't be undone. I hated that bulky thick sheet steel under folder stock. I saw an ad in Shotgun News a few years back for a new, milled from bar stock under folder stock. I think it was supposed to be East German. Beautiful blued finish. I think it looks so much better. I also added a slant brake. (The bayonet still slides on over it). to paraphrase Misha, it makes me happy, so why not? I still have the original parts, so after I'm dead, some collector can always put it back to original. I'm sure I won't care. He will probably be mad that I threw away the original box.

Matt Morrison I don’t mean just these AKs, I mean anything imported. Was everything banned? Did the ban not end? Obviously I know nothing about importing foreign stuff, I’ve always had American guns. I just found out the ban on Chinese gun parts existed after eBay wiped out my shopping cart and that is a ban from way back. I really thought they all kind of ended.
@mattmorrison93795 жыл бұрын
Ya Chinese are banned as you stated Russian are banned due to sanctions. But for a rifle to be imported they have to be in A sporter configuration. And not be readily usable with standard capacity mags. There are still a few country's that import rifles. Thet just cant be brought in with the "evil" featires
@justplinkin48095 жыл бұрын

@2aEdu5 жыл бұрын
@@justplinkin4809 Basically what Matt said. You cannot get one of these new or imported any more. Been banned for 30 years and after the ban China stopped making them. So literally impossible. The ban applies to any "assault rifles". They must now have switched out USA compliance parts or come in in a neutered state and left that way. Chinese is banned period regardless.

Interesting. I would have no way of knowing. We haven't had any imported since 1994. The ones I have are good. The ones built from military parts kits, as well as the ones sold for export to the USA. You might be right though. It wouldn't surprise me.
