The brothers Nini and Baba Ling grew up in a Chinese-Indian family. While Nini inherits his father’s Bombay restaurant, Ling’s Pavilion, his brother branches out into Delhi, opening the Imperial Garden. Both establishments enjoy success by strictly using the freshest ingredients in their cooking. As Nini contemplates his retirement, Baba is forging ahead with the ambitious construction of Nanking, the re-incarnated name of a landmark restaurant his father established in 1947, the year India gained independence.

Great videos with a topic that interests me a lot. As a Chinese, I too, look for Chinese food everywhere I go, and I like the stories behind them. I feel that this channel should get many more views, and as a friendly suggestion, maybe using HD and better lighting will help?

I had no idea the Chinese are in every corner of the world from Cuba to Norway and South America to Israel and everywhere in between! Great videos and so fascinating their individual stories!

Your shows are very interesting to watch, very informative.They remind me of when we were growing up. They show the struggles and perseverance of the Chinese people in different places around the world making a lifestyle through their restaurant. It was something I had to experience growing up in Ottawa, Ontario Canada, too since my parents had to raise us four boys who ate a lot and what a better way to make a living than to cook for people while feeding your family too. But nice insight into the lives of the different generations of restaurateurs. Good job. Keep up the good work travelling abroad and discovering new stories to share.

Thank you for this. I also have the strong habit of surveying Chinese restaurants wherever I travel, so across 20 years of visiting India (and being a resident continuously for a year), I tried a lot of Chinese food in India. And I was frustrated most of the time. The best Chinese restaurant food I ever had was when I finally stumbled on Ling's Pavilion in Mumbai. I was impressed, for example, that I could actually order a simple dish of green vegetables! The second best was at a place in Tangra, Kolkata, but in order to get the better food I had to send away the waiter and ask him to bring the owners out. I asked the owners to cook me something *they* themselves would like to eat at home. It was not fancy, but at least it felt like proper Chinese food and it was delicious. It is also lucky that pork is available in West Bengal state. Much of my time in India is in Punjab state, where both pork and beef are illegal. This, and the landlocked people's unfamiliarity with seafood and their unadventurous tastes, makes it hard to get worthwhile Chinese food in that location. "Chinese food" for Punjabis, I joke, is basically Indian food with cumin-coriander omitted, plus "noodles."
