I’ll add my two cents, not to be critical but I would like to offer my years of experience to try to solve your issues. #1. That’s not the proper way to grease a tapered bearings. Have the bearings clean, dry and removed from the shaft. Place a large amount of grease in the palm of your hand. Take a bearing, large side down and force it into the grease all the way to your skin, rotate and continue all around the bearing. Don’t stop until grease has been forced all the way through the cage and comes out the top. #2. Consider drilling a hole in the bolt hole of the shaft all the way to the center, then connect it in the stop in the center with a cross hole. Drill and tap the bolt and install a grease fitting. Replace fittings as they get damaged but grease every 10 hours. #3. Measure the gap between the seals and the track frame. Buy UHMW plastic that thickness and cut washers to fill the gap from the seal to the track frame. This may help with several things….they will help keep rocks out, they will help keep the seals in place and help with side loading of your rollers. Good luck and hope something here help you.

New bearings were under packed with grease. Consider drilling the hub to add a zerk so you can add grease later too. And maybe stake the seal in, or use loctite to retain it better.

Thanks for the heads up on wheel issues. Just got my skid in few weeks ago and decided to tear all wheels down to the berrings and grease. It's not that they don't have grease but that the black rings were pushed into the balls when they knocked them into place . Over time they wear through the metal and all goes to hell. I used a socket and anvil to hammer the ring flat prior to reassembling.

Add a locking colar to hold in the seals. They make split locking colars. If you can't get a single piece one installed, they make split collars. McMaster Carr will surely carry exactly what you need.

I think I see a design flaw.. those tapered roller bearings have the taper from the inside of the shaft facing the outside. I think that the normal forces on it will tend to push the coller outward causing slack in the whole roller assembly thus causing the seal to walk out and allow dirt in. Tapered bearings should face inward not outward. You should also find a shim to tighten up that slack as much as you can. This looks like an endless problem for these units.

Could you through drill the shaft then cross drill the shaft where the bearings are ,install a grease zerk in the bolt head and grease daily or every 8 hrs until clean grease appears ,lot of work up front but may pay off in the long run, just a thought I may try on my mini ex. And yes gravel and river rock suck with these tracks.

You should pack the bearings better And also hitting the shaft with a hammer like that will make the burrs Make some washers between the seals and the outer frame will help allot. Also if possible put in bigger bearings maybe 1 size bigger can help with the forces that you get on that small wheel is allot. downside of the bigger bearing is you need new shaft and bore out the wheel casting

This machine is a typical piece of Chinese junk, poor design for idler, simple seal with no protection from debris. Some simple nylon packers both sides of idler would help keep rocks out, packing the bearing CORRECTLY with grease is essential, I didn't see any in the video. I suspect that all the bottom idlers are identical in design and will need attention sooner or later. Also loved watching you hammer the shaft without use of a soft face. Smearing grease on the bearing is NOT satisfactory,. This is NOT a video worth watching as an aid but excellent for how many mistakes can you find. I'm a veteran of 55years repairing tracked machines
