In this Chinese Street Food tour video, I take you around many places in Chengdu. First, I visited this local market near the outskirts of Chengdu, Sichuan, China, and found Chinese street food and the atmosphere to be mind blowing and exciting! It was truly an experience visiting this Chinese street market! So much food and Sichuan ingredients, so many flavours to try! Afterwards, I rode my bike around to many different locations.

Visit my new blog for details about where to eat in Chengdu:
www.thefoodrang...
I visited this morning market on a Sunday morning in Chengdu at 8am with an empty stomach and money to blow with the goal of tasting foods and chatting with as many locals as possible. This is a true China experience. It was so busy, with so many people, so many things to buy and look at, tons of vegetables, meat, live chickens, live hens, live roosters, everything you could want really. Fresh handmade noodles, fresh Sichuan cold "liangbancai", and a huge meat market deli area with hanging pork and beef to choose from. All of the locals were friendly and talkative, although a bit surprised to see a foreigner walking through the area!
If you're visiting China as a tourist, you'll definitely want to take a walk through a busy morning market like this. There are countless street foods to try and people to chat to (If you speak a little mandarin). This market was mind blowing!
Rather than trying hot pot in Chengdu or hot pot in Chongqing, you could try some way cooler food in Chengdu at local market like this. This should be a top priority in my opinion!
Chinese cuisine is so diverse, and I consider myself lucky to be able to live in Sichuan, eating Sichuan food everyday, tasting all the top Chinese foods to try whenever I want. I've decided to stay living in China for at least another 2 or 3 years to get the feel of it and eat as much as I can!
The addresses of the locations in the video are:
Themarket:
农贸市场
青羊区苏坡中路5-10号
The Century Egg:
成都市金牛区内曹家巷工人村
Gong ren cun
My favourite noodle joint:
Name: 纯阳馆鱼香排骨面 (chún yáng guǎn yú xiāng páigǔ miàn)
Address: 青羊区吉祥街6号附6号 吉祥结店 (Qīngyáng qū jíxiáng jiē 6 hào fù 6 hào jíxiáng jié diàn)
The Random Street Noodles:
成都市马鞍东路9栋
The Maocai Joint:
Name: 无名冒菜 Wúmíng mào cài
Address:青羊区西二道街19号(金色夏威夷背后)
The jelly noodle sandwich:
Name: 严太婆锅魁 (Yán tàipó guō kuí)
Address: Right beside the Wenshuyuan monastery exit K. 青羊区人民中路三段19号近地铁文殊院K出口 (qīngyáng qū rénmín zhōnglù sān duàn 19 hào jìn dìtiě wénshū yuàn K chūkǒu)
The head:
This place was found just behind Wenshuyuan (文殊院) temple in Chengdu, near Chengdu's downtown Core.

HUGE THANKS to ExpressVPN for offering all Food Ranger viewers 3 months free and 49% off their yearly package using this link: ExpressVPN.com/Thefoodranger . Travelers need ExpressVPN to stay safe online and to unblock any site. I personally use it for Netflix, even while at home in Canada, but also while traveling to unblock content and episodes that are geoblocked, and I also use it for security, because airport wifi and hotel wifi is often very insecure, leaving my data vulnerable. By connecting to one of their servers around the world, it’s just like my computer or phone is in that location, and all data sent while connected to their VPN is secure, safe, and private from others to see, so I know that my data won’t be hacked or looked at by others. Thanks so much for watching, and we have tons more videos coming up for you! Please leave me a comment below letting me know what you thought about this episode, thanks so much!!!

First off, I love these videos and you have a great personality....however, you really gotta work on your rating system. A 5/10 is average, meaning it's completely edible, but not enjoyable nor unenjoyable. Based on the fact that you didn't want to eat much of it and were not a fan, a 5/10 would be far too generous. If you were grossed out and could only eat one bite how can you even begin to consider it average tasting? With all of this said, everything about these videos is so entertaining by my standards. Please keep it up

From my short experience, I'd suggest learning at least some survival phrases, most importantly: some courtesy phrases (greeting/being polite), ordering food and paying in a shop. And remember that it will all go to waste if you don't learn how to pronounce it properly! In general, people were very friendly, but knowing how to get around if they don't know English is helpful :)
@Maggie-gi8bw
@Maggie-gi8bw 8 жыл бұрын
You would probably meet some people that aren't too friendly, like in any places, but a lot are going to be nice and would love to help you out. As long as you are genuine and respectful many people are going to like you and appreciate you taking the time to visit their country/place. As to your question, it also depends on where you decide to go. If you're going to bigger cities like Beijing and Shanghai, chances are you are going to bump into some locals who can speak English pretty well. If you're going to some less developed places or places with more older generations, there's going to be language barriers and you're definitely more likely to be ignored if you can't communicate

I don't think you should judge someone's culture and heritage. by saying "how can someone eat a rabbit....they are born from the clouds" you are basically judging them. Americans eat cows , and in India its consider a taboo because much of India considers cows as a sacred animal in Hinduism. all I'm saying is don't offend anyones culture.

im an indian....thnq so much!!....my intensions were not offending someone but to say that rabbits are the cutest think in the world....and if someone is offended by any opinion....then i guess people should try to understand that not everyone,s born purpose is to offend people ...people have a life you know and also please start accepting perspectives... will help you a lot.... :)

+Rosario Rios Indians do not consider it a taboo. The logic behind this is; Cows and Buffaloes provide us and our children milk which is very necessary in our growth, and we cannot kill anything which nourishes us. That is why we Indians treat Cows and buffaloes with respect as we treat our mothers. now tell me, Is there anything wrong with this mentality? Yes you can talk about lambs or goats but we do not drink their milk, except for only those who rears them. and its not like you cannot get beef or pork in India.. India is a land of diverse cultures.

You can easily feel the awkwardness of the interactions. Judging from the locals faces isn't accurate. Who knows, the locals might be smiling to themselves thinking 'who's this fool?'

+The Food Ranger: You're most welcome. I'm a bit curious; I love meat, but I don't see many veggies, save condiments in the foods you feature. Is that just how things are, or...what? Don't misunderstand me, every video you post has my mouth watering! 😛😀

My partner, she's from Chengdu. She's studying at Newcastle University. We're planning a trip there next year. She obviously speaks fluent Mandrin, I'm taking night classes. There's a huge age gap between us, I'm 48 and she is 20. I, however, am lucky enough to look like I'm in my early 30's. I'm looking forward to it so much but as nervous as hell meeting her family
