@Dennis McConnell I didn't know that, until just now. Thanks for telling me. Weird that they wouldn't give her any dialogue, since most boys that age could easily pass for girls by voice. It was her only movie, too. Her one movie, no dialogue, and she has to pretend to be a boy. She got shafted, but it's still a fun movie.

The abusive teacher casting is so interesting to me because conventionally she's such a beautiful young woman and in my mind when I think 'hag teacher with ruler raised to beat child and secret child gambling ring' my mind wants to go to an older , rougher looking character, but this woman looks more like a damsel in distress/coy love interest- I'm sure it's def probably a cultural difference from here to there but I think the change up is really cool regardless

I recognize a lot of those dub voices from the '90s-era Godzilla movies. If you watch Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (easily the Heisei-era movie I've seen the most), for instance, you'll hear a lot of these voices. Like the lead dude in that is also dubbed by the guy doing Conan Lee here.

This movie was one of my favorites when i was younger. it used to be on either Showtime, Cinemax or HBO all the time, but real late at night. Still have my taped VHS copy. By the way Jeffery Fallcon also plays Buddy (sic Holly) in this sweet low budget movie called Six String Samurai which is really weird kung-fu adventure movie in post apocalyptic future where Vegas is the last American City after the Russians nuked America and Elvis became King. And Buddy is fighting against Death to become the new king of Vegas. Its freaking awesome and worth finding a copy of if you can. I highly recommend it!

This is the most interesting film you reviewed in a while. An obscure gem I just have to watch! I go for Chinese humour. And this is certainly good here. Even the worst character is somehow likable. And holy crap! That Bat --Man! 😄He's like a power rangers villian done right. As an earlier commenter stated, the main male character is played and presented a bit like a Jackie Chan substitute. Feels like everybody involved had a blast doing this movie. And production quality is surprising. And I'm happy I was introduced to Ed Glaser and his work. Can't wait to check on his videos! Sheila Chan's character is probably a spoof, because Stephen Chow and Ng Man-tat were on the rise with their Mo lei tau(nonsensical slapstick humour) comedies during the early 90's and this movie relies on said humour. In the 1990 they made the classic All for the Winner and Sheila Chan was in it. The movie was a parody of the first God of Gamblers and after Winner's success, Stephen Chow and NG Man-tat starred in two God of Gamblers sequel and few spin-offs. So I guess the poster is an inside joke aimed towards the God of Gamblers franchise, since every poster had characters holding revealed cards in the same manner. Or simply, I'm reading too much into it.

LOL. More like ALL Hong Kong films of that era of were filmed without sound. This allowed them to cast many actors in lead roles who spoke no Chinese at all. Case in point, California-native Lloyd Hutchinson, billed in this film (and all others) as "CONAN LEE".

BTW, I really wish the villain WAS Skelator from Masters of the Universe. It also helps that she’s an undefeated martial arts champion and she’s been in films with HK film heavy hitters such as Michelle Yeoh and Sammo Hung. Definitely check out Yes Madam/Police Assassins. It’s worth the watch! It’s one of the few you could easily say she’s the star in the film along with Michelle Yeoh. Another one is the China O’Brien series.

The buff arm of Cynthia doesn't bother that much on its own until you notice that her RIGHT arm is drawn normally, meaning that the cover implies that she's one of those gym weirdos who does reps with just the one arm and ends up with a massive arm/regular arm imbalance.
