I was half expecting the next shot to be up inside the kid's nostril. The ending clearly rips off the ending of A Nightmare on Elm Street, which in turn ripped off the ending of Phantasm. Steal from the best.

I produced this movie with my brother and this review is hysterical. A lot of it is actually spot on. There was so much going on with this production that it resulted in a hilarious film--and not just behind the camera. I think everyone who worked on this movie has their great stories to tell--I know I do.

This is freakin hilarious! And coming from someone who survived this debacle (aka discount Kevin Sorbo), I've got the answers to these and many other questions (why the film ran out of money, where was the army, who was this Elvis guy, what's up with the script, where was the director, why is there a dead German tourist on set, why is our camera crew dressed like Israeli military, why did Dean Stockwell get back on the plane the minute he landed in Jordan, why did Mickey Rooney keep showing people his balls, why do people keep disappearing on set after the first AD threatened to kill them, why am I in this thing, etc). Although I'm truly impressed how much you were able to piece together and the time and effort that went into this review. If only the film had this much dedication. I'll start you off with this one anecdote I shared in an interview years ago... You know how movies have that "no animal was harmed in the making of this film" disclaimer at the end of the credits? They lied. Sinbad claimed the lives of at least six chickens, a horse, and a German tourist (although we weren't directly responsible for the horse or German tourist). A battle scene was called for in the script which was described as being comical "with chickens flying everywhere". Jim, our very proper English second unit director, took this literally and had a production assistant find several live chickens. The battle scene was to take place in Petra on the side of a cliff. Several dozen warriors were hidden in the rocks, poised to attack when Jim gave the command to "throw the chickens"... and the PA whipped three of the suckers at least twenty feet into the sky over the side of the cliff. And of course, chickens... don't fly. There was a brief moment, though, when I saw the look on one of the chickens, "hey, look guys, I can fly!" The look was replaced all too quickly by the look of terror as the bird plummeted to the ground with his feathered buddies. The suckers hit the ground like bags of wet cement. The only sound that followed was the sound of pain from everyone hiding behind the rocks "Oooooo", and the sound of intense pain from the chickens "Bawwkkk". (From then on, this was the sound we made whenever anything went wrong on the show "Oh no! The camera fell off the cliff - Bawwkk") Of course, elaborate fight scenes such as this are rarely shot in one take. Four takes later, two of the birds were dead and the third one was seriously confused. I overheard one of the extras volunteer to put the last bird out of its misery, and the production assistant simply said "No, I think he's got one more left." After eight takes, we had killed three more chickens for our valiant cause, but the PA kept lobbing dead chickens into the air until Jim said (in a very proper English accent) "Don't throw the chickens anymore, it doesn't look good." Anthony DeLongis was the one who decided at that point that it didn't look good to have dead chickens laying about with their little feet in the air, so he neatly propped them up using rocks. The birds are obviously dead, but now thanks to Tony, they look like they're just taking a nap. I don't know if posing dead chickens is listed on Tony's resume, but he might want to consider it. After the incident, we were supposed to shoot a scene which involved some warriors who accidentally ride their horses off the side of a cliff. We never got the rubber horses we ordered, so we were considering using the dead horse and German tourist (which again, were not our fault). We figured we were already responsible for six chickens, the horse and tourist were dead anyway, why not? We decided against it, but the fact that we considered it should say something about the entire experience...

It's only just occurred to me, after Lord knows how many rewatches, that a beloved but sadly retired D&D campaign of mine featured a sorcerer who generally used a sword (he genuinely used most of his daily magic to make his "entrance music" - 'He's the Man' by The Killers - audible in-universe) and my character, a druid, who mostly duffed people up with sticks. It wasn't even some high-concept strategy to make them super-powerful, either - they were just idiots, lunatics or both (for what is an adventuring party but a sea of idiots, lunatics or both?) ...and what was our fighter doing? Using a crossbow (because of course she was). EDIT: For anyone actually interested in D&D, don't think there was even a Tenser's Transformation in there to make it _kind_ of make sense; I think we started that campaign at L3 and got to L5 by the time lockdown put the kibosh on it so we were a bajiillion miles off anything like that. It only worked because my build was hilariously, _disgustingly_ broken at low levels (he walked into your typical fight with an AC of 25 at L3 so, yeah, probably natural 20 for enemies to hit him and you couldn't even nerf him by stealing his stuff because he didn't have any stuff to steal unless you really wanted two sticks or clothes that were, "one small step above tattered rags") and I swore to the DM I'd play the character in a way that allowed the less experienced players (or players like the aforementioned sorcerer who just wanted to RP in incredibly silly ways) to have fun without getting us wiped out rather than stealing their thunder.

Simbad reminded me of a comicbook about real-file sudamerican general Facundo Quiroga I read long time ago: in a flashback to when Quiroga was a child, he asked his father what the occean looks like, after strugling for a moment, the father replied: "well, the occean is like the desert, only instead of being all sand, is all water" it made more sense there because it was an uncultured man trying to explain something to a child with little frame of refference... in this movie is all just an excuse to not built prop ships or film scenes on the sea

Orginally this "movie" was made to be published for DVD/CD-ROM INTERACTIVE GAME called SINBAD for the Philips cdi console (to be a lot like Dragons Lair type of game), but then Sony Playstation killed Philips market totally in that same year. And the cdi console flopped horribly and was discontinued before the production of this game was completed. Philips pulled the plug from the production budget and wash their hands of it. The movie company witch was involved to the game tryed to avoid them to go bankrupt, they first try to offered it to Sony, but Sony got big lawsuit going on with Philips and turned it down in the first place. Pile of shit in they hands and no money they decide to make it to the full movie. The rest of the scenes are shot in bulgary or whatever till all the money run out. Without the original castmembers of actors or any script. You will quikly noitice that every cut of scenes are about equal same lenght by the time, and they all are tended to end like:"What are you going do next?"and actor will look at you, because you are the player. Same time the screen should show press button arrows and other options over movie by computer graphics...faster you chose more points you will get and all that shit...then jump to the next scene and interact with the player.... 8)

+Movie Nights I was translating instructions and test player for new games back in 1996-2002 in Finland (European country ;) ). Many console and PC-games went thru our company where i was freelancing, i remember this game because it was to be next new killer application for gaming... Philips had this CDi-450 console witch used Green Book cd-rom tech (MPEG-1) and has ADPCM voice (compressed 8-track), but only 16-bit prosessor. This game SIMBAD was only prototype version and lots of bugs in it. In this movie review you can see some parts what was in it clearly, like the deer head on the wall blinks the eye, warning shout when guy throws knife to sinbad, then you had to act etc etc. There was 2 or 4 choises you could made every scene. In the cave where Sinbad rises hands and there is 2 holes inthe roof are left and right options what will happend next. Most comical is lava canion in movie, there is edited 2 both secvensies from the game, you will drop or dont drop in there! This was early 1998, i dont know who had the copyright for the game, it was never released. The Coin is the CD-rom, package was like the book... Watch it again, Have nice movie night! 8)

I think the production of this movie should have been permanently shutdown, because if you can't bring back a majority of the cast back to finish the last half of the movie, just stop making your damn movie. The "Dark Knight" in this movie is obviously no Batman. 9:25- You could call it offensively stupid. All the characters coming out of the book instantly reminds me of a shitty version of Jumanji. 12:32- He sounds like a rejected Middle-earth villain. 15:07- WORST. ZEN RIDDLE. EVER. 19:30- Oh, for the love of cheese, YOU ARE NO BATMAN, DICKWAD! 20:40- Please, movie, just stop. 26:18- You mean it hasn't fallen apart already? 30:06- ...What the fuck was that all about? I was also thinking of the ending t A Nightmare on Elm Street (both the original and the 2010 reimagining). No wonder this movie is rated 2.2 out of 10 on IMDB. Thanks, Lupa, for this review of one of the worst of the worst, which are your best reviews in my eyes.

I stumbled upon this accidently today, and had so many laughs with it! I know that the congrats are quite belated, but amazing, great job and great channel! And (I'm a Bulgarian) and think that we should really make a Top 10 of horrid movies shot in Bulgarian caves (this deffo beats The Expandables). The national pyschiatry is near Prohodna (probably this is where Murki Khan ended up). :)

I'm barely 15 minutes into a video that's 7 years old, and I've already hunted down and add her interviews to watch later. Because like Allison, I need answers.

Great review, just a small thing, though - Bulgaria is not in the Middle East.

The guy whose voice they raised o you said looks like Tonto sounds like the little girl Linda Blair played in The Exorcist when she was possessed!

I heard this week Aladdin and Sinbad were added to '1001 Nights' (aka Arabian Nights) by French publishers, so no Middle Eastern actors fits in a weird way.

Yup... Singapore made a bold move, putting this out... I went to the cinema, saw there was a sinbad film out, got excited cuz I like the old films. Watched it... and then questioned my life choices. There was about 5 of us in the cinema, amazingly there was still 5 of us at the end
