Comparing Portuguese "cão" to Mandarin "gǒu" might lead you to assume the two are cognates, but it's probably a coincidence

Interestingly, there are Oghuz Turks living in China such as the Salar people. They are most closely related to the Turkmen and Turks. China also has Kipchak and Karluk Turks, the former being Tatars, Kyrgyz, and Kazakhs, and the latter being Uzbeks and the famed Uyghurs. Not really, no. You can always find any number of random words between two languages that happen to be similar. A better indicator of shared ancestry is core words like pronouns, numbers, kinship terms, things of that sort that tend not to be replaced very often throughout the millennia.

How do you know if it is Chinese origin? Maybe it is the other way round? Maybe both got if from another language? You can't just throw something into the middle without evidence. Its like Chinese nationalists stating that the horse stirrup was invented in the Chinese Tang dynasty. In reality, the stirrup was used by Turkic/Mongol and Yenisei "barbarians" from the north, and then spread to China during warfare and trade exchange. Background: Archaic Chinese armies used the chariot, which meant the rider was not onnthe horse. The chinese transitioned to mounted cavalry, and also adopted the heavy armored cavalry over time by adapting to the changes it faced during warfare with the northern barbarians. Chinese also captured horses from the west frontiers to strengthen their horse pedigree.

The similarities are just coincidental. There is a few words in Turkish that have Chinese origins, like tepsi or denk but that's it. Su, tanrı, köpek, baba don't have the same etymological roots.

​@@egeyaln8223 the Chinese word for "heaven", Tien is from Tanri, which is also from proto-Yenisei. The Turks learnt the word from the Yeniseian peoples they conquered, and the word spread to proto-Chinese most likely. One more point: Chinese say "heaven" for God. Similar to Turkish "gök" tanrı.

@@ahmetturkmen0011 i don't really believe in the yeniseian theory, Tanrı is a word that exists in literally every Turkic language in different forms and that makes it unlikely to be a loanword. The yenisian explanation says it's from *tingVr- "high" plus turkic -i, the possesive suffix. It's not a direct loanword from yeniseian. I think there's better Turkic explanations that could be made. I don't think the Chinese tian is a loanword from Turkic either, as the old chinese pronounciation is pretty different "tʰiːm"

Turks originally came from Mongolia and have been neighbours with the Chinese for millennia. You cannot read about the history of the Sui and Tang Dynasty without reading about the Turks for example.
