Thank you for sharing this video. I needed one for a lefty with good audio -- and you gave me both. Bonus: you're right -- the crochet hook is MUCH easier. Thank you!!! I'm about to cast on for the Isen shawl -- 800+ stitches! Wish me luck. :D

Do you think this cast on would work in place of the Italian tubular (project is a sweatrer)? Thank you very much for this video, Bill!

The beauty in the Italian tubular cast on is it's invisible nature. Switching to this one would change the visual line of the sweater, possibly making that edge appearing heavier/more pronounced.

Yes!!! As soon as I heard crochet hook I thought "my new go to cast on" ..no more excess or not enough yarn with long tail cast on *AND* should totally help with gage as I know my crochet gage but knitting not so much

Love that you have this video since I can't manage a crochet hook in my right hand, but why wouldn't you just rotate the hook away from/under to get rid of the twist rather than removing it? Also, a section of smooth casting on without pausing or talking would be helpful.

Oh yeah, definitely using the crochet hook😄 might try this stitch to start the brim of a beanie as a nice change from the usual.
