I've been to five weddings during my time in China. I even played a song in one wedding. And in my neighbors wedding, I got to see behind the scenes (from the brides side) b/c she asked to borrow my apartment to help house guests.

Wow I didn't know it wasn't this complicated, I love how you make these videos so we all learn about our culture and customs. Seriously I don't think my parents even know some of these customs. On a side note, your dress is so pretty!

Thank you so much for uploading this! LOL I didn't realise how much goes into it, I knew a few of the customs but not all of these, please upload more so that when my Chinese bf does propose I can have a traditional wedding lol just hope I remember everything! :)

I think this informative focus is a good choice! Since the videos are short, you can keep our attention while also presenting info without distractions. By the way, PLEASE do more videos detailing the wedding process! And maybe something recommending a few trusted vendors for wedding products?

I remember after the wedding (I believe) they would go back to the bride's house and make the grooms and his friends show some silly act or do something funny so that they could go into the house. Will never forget that since my neighbors would do that for their 3 daughters...

What about the more modern HK customs of the groom "knocking through the door", where the bridesmaids not only play games and tricks, but requests large sums of money. i.e. $9,999. My poor Caucasian brother-in-law never knew what hit him

Thanks for your feedback! I think we were just focused to try to condense as much information as possible in a short time so it may come across as all facts. We will try to incorporate our humour in whenever we can. But I think for RMVs it will still have more of an educational focus than our other videos.

oh! i had to follow some of this steps with my wife when we got married , even some things like my wife had to eat rice before i walked her out from here home with a red umbrella, and things like this and all the red envelopes was confusing to me first but i think i got a hang of it in the end. So now i'm a happy married Swede married to a wonderful Chinese wife from GD.

I just love your channel! I am so happy I stumbled upon it. I am a Anthropology student. I have to do a research paper on Traditional Chinese Culture in my Family Kin & Groups class. I was looking for Traditional Chinese wedding practices and found this video. Then I started watching more of your videos. I love them all. I will probably eventually watch them all. I even know what you mean in a lot of them because in Middle School when I lived in California, my best friend was Chinese. We always tried to get paired to do projects together and I would go to her house all the time after school. Her parents were a lot like you describe. Her mom was always making us eat food. I mean talk about afternoon snack. It was like a pre-dinner dinner. I remember we are at the table and she ask how many eggs I want. I said one please. And she put two and said. You eat two. It is good for you. She would always give me double of what I said I wanted. ha ha I was never able to eat dinner when I went home. Well I would really like to learn even more about Chinese weddings. The rituals. :-) Thank you for sharing your culture with the world. :-)

Would definitely love to hear all the details! I'm also curious what sort of difficulties there might be if a foreigner (man or woman) is interested in a native Chinese. Thinking more if they were in China themselves, more so than the potential ease of bending the rules in the US or another country. Would parents approve of their child marrying a foreign woman or man more? And is the stereotype fairly true, that they would object fairly forcefully to it?

You guys, it's actually EXTREMELY expensive. I saw somewhere that the average wedding in China is $30,000 USD. When I told my aunt that lives in Shanghai, she said that that number was completely wrong, and that my cousin's upcoming wedding is going to cost more than $100,000 USD. My mom said that they spend their whole lives saving up for this kind of stuff..

Off the Great Wall likewise subtitled with pinyin under the characters! now i feel bad my wife and i skipped half of these. her parents are very accepting of me though and we had a nice ceremony in her home village where they 'gave her away' to me. like giving the hongbao to gain entrance, finding her shoes, eating an egg! i felt really good to share that with them. i wonder if i can still give them these letters next time i see them just for fun?
