This course looks promising! Your have rightly pointed out that pronouncing individual Chinese syllables is quite easy. But the difficulty arises immediately when they are combined.
I’m native Vietnamese and Vietnamese language is also tonal 😊

Nî Hâo. I really like your videos as I find them nice and chill and Lili is a great presenter. I have been learning Mandarin for a few weeks now and have used various sources for improvement and was wondering whether what I'm doing is a good way to practice. What I do is use the Google Translate app on my phone and translate Chinese > English. I speak into it what I have learned such as a sentence or word and then see if it understands me or not. Do you think this is a good way to learn? Xìe xie

你好 Patrick! Thanks for the positive comment! Using voice input to practice Chinese speaking is a good way. If a voice input can recognize your pronunciation, it means generally Chinese people can also understand you. This is good news. Just one thing, if you want to sound "native" or almost native or have really good pronunciation, you might need some extra practice. In China a lot of people don't speak 100% standard Mandarin, people from different provinces have their own dialects which affect their Mandarin accent. I am not super familiar with how google translate voice input works, but some traditional "typing" input methods and wechat's voice-text converting system are smart enough to understand "accents". So voice input doesn't train you to be 100% native, but it helps to make sure people will understand you well enough. Hope this helps!

The Chinese understood even my tone was off because speak in one sentence, but speak just one word that is a tone problem.
