Man, watching these KZbin videos of Shawn working on his log cabin are really therapeutic. I have spent quite a bit of time in Northern Ontario and your footage of the scenery captures it spot on. Made my last trip in June with my best friend who is terminally ill. That trip will in all reality have been his last. It was very cathartic for both of us. He loves it up there and wanted to go one last time. So Shawn, when I watch these videos that's what the scenery shots make me think of. I thank you......

Looks beautiful in your neck of the woods. We got about 15 cm of snow and expecting another 15 tomorrow. I got that same chinking but haven’t gotten around to it. Chinking seems similar to caulking. Nice color match. You gotta love wood work to have the patience to chink an entire log house. Well worth it in the end I'm sure. Seeing the attention to detail after building with such large logs is a sign of fine craftsmanship.

NICE! Every choice is tastefully done Shawn. Chinking can look so overwhelming to a cabin, so both the width (when possible to reduce it) and the color, play a 'big' factor in the appearance. U inspire me 2 get up and do my best each day and not feel overwhelmed (problem 4 me). When I look at the size of those logs and think; 'By grace, this man accomplished soOOOOoo much on his own, surely I can do my little best today.' Thank you most kindly 4 sharing and inspiring. When I was a kid in the early 90s my grandfather built a cabin outside of Hot Springs, Arkansas. I was voluntold to go spend a summer with him working with him, learning. At the time I hated it, hated my dad for forcing me to go, and hated that my grandfather worked from sun up to sundown every day except Sunday. He had me chinking his cabin while he worked on the trim and interior. It took me three weeks. I don't recall the square footage, but it was huge to my 12 year old boys memory. I learned more that summer than I knew I could learn. Do it right or do it twice. Practical skills, that as a teen and into my 20's became the stuff that won and kept jobs. Confidence more than anything. This reminded me of that. Up and down homemade 2x4 ladders and walkways all day. Spraying the chinking with water and using tongue depressors to give it an even look. Ya'll remember the old popsickle sticks that were thicker on ends? Yea, he didn't throw his away, he saved them for later use... for me. HAHA! I stopped by that old cabin a few years ago. You can tell on the back where a 12 year old thought "nobody will see this...", and didn't do as thorogh a job. That was me :) Pops knew, I know he did. He just showed me some mercy from that 95-degree heat. Miss you ol' boy. Thank you for sharing this whole journey. I know you have a lot of work still ahead of you, but wow, man, your skills have grown exponentially.
