This was filmed as part of a black belt exam during a Kempo Arnis Federation seminar in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, March 2012.It is a short part of Tomaz Stanovnik "thesis" for the 1.DAN black belt testing, where he had to research kata Chinto and explain it as a "complete self defence system", applying principles of kyusho jitsu, tuite, biomechanical theory, throwing, choking, locking ...
Many thanks to Rok Derenčin for his assistance in the creation of the drill and the making of the video.
Please check KAF BLACK BELT VIDEOS to see other aspects of testing, including the required Kata, kihon, self defence methods, stand up fighting, stick-knife fighting and defenses, full contact sparring.

This is great stuff. Too often you see unrealistic bunkai from unrealistic attacks..."straight punch to the midsection with the arm held extended" and then the bunkai is "block the outstretched arm, punch, turn around to deal with other attacker"... This was something you could actually use in the alley behind the dojo. Thanks!

I reviewed this video three times and compliment the work of Tomaz Stanovrik. From my perspective what was presented falls in line with most Okinawan Martial Science principles and is very good interpretation of Chinto self-protection techniques. Thank you for sharing.

Deep knowledge of bunkai. Isshin-ryu seems to be an interesting style because it has a variety of hand techniques. Thank for sharing this video.

Issihinryu teaches at least 15 basic hand techniques, but there are a TON of submissions based on the 15 hand techniques. I was personally taught between 250 and 300 submissions in Isshinryu Karate by the time I was a black belt candidate.

Thanks for this! I am working on my bunkai of Chinto and was getting stuck in a couple areas. This definitely points out some angles I had not considered before. :)

You Sir, have a fantastic imagination, I only practice one kata now, Chinto, and love your movements. Q: why do you strike first in some of those movements? I was asked once, 'what's the only offensive move I've ever taught you?' By Mr Bohan. Mr Heberliegh was there, I responded with a motion in Chinto. Mr Heberliegh responded with "how did you know that?" I said, because I felt like I was vulnerable." Hence, drawing someone in or walking away, ... I like to share that avoiding a fight is less risk than engaging in one, hense the open hand first movement of all katas.
