My 1st job (back in 2008) was similar to Chipotle. We had to "make" the sour cream, meaning go get the real sour cream and dilute it with water, then drizzle it on a burrito. I never asked any questions 🤷🏽‍♀️ I didn't care back then

I used to work at chipotle. Sometimes I would be generous with the meat, then what would happen the pot of meat in front of the customers would run out too fast. The grill guy would bitch at me for running out of it too fast, cause he would have to cook more meat and if he already has other meat on the grill he wouldn’t have enough room. Then there’s health regulations that you can’t use chicken tongs with the steak tongs to flip the meats on the grill, etc etc. manager gets involved. Manager gives a few warnings then wrote me up for being too generous. Then after awhile it turned into fuck the customer, I’ll lose my job if I give too much meat. Plus if I was giving a lot away, my coworkers would get pissed at me and it throws off the balance of the grill guy not having enough time to prepare. Chipotle workers work like a little nest of bees and have to communicate to each other, if I dont tell the grill guy I'm running out of chicken when its halfway and he has no chicken thrown down on the grill ahead of time, and I throw extra on without regard, then thats when customers end up waiting for more chicken because theres not enough for each customer. Its extra tbh. It works differently than some other fast food jobs. If I dont communicate to my coworker and yell "WHITE RICE WORKING" to the person in the back when its halfway, I could potentially run out of rice before my coworkers have it prepped and ready. So in the long run just to get the day go by and not experience any of those "oh were out of chicken right now, but it should be ready in about 10 minutes" issues - this is why I would just after awhile say no to customers who would be like "oh cant I just get a little more" cause I would get a string of people along the way of "oh a little more please" and I used to give a little more just to be nice, but I ended up getting my job threatened by my manager too. On top of that its an inconvience to those who I worked with. So I would rather not piss off my coworkers cause I have to work with them lol. But customers I would tell them no and keep moving the line. i also worked in a really busy branch, we always had the line wrapped around the store (before the e-coli crisis) and so we were always busy and overworked and I could care less if the person thought I was stingy, I have to get through this line of people in a certain amount of time to keep pushing the line (plus we also had to make quotas of the ratio of customers in and out the door within a certain amount of time and we would get audited on that). Also! I have forgotten about this, but I got heavily denied water and bathroom breaks because since I worked on the line you had to get someone to cover you to help the customers. When nobody was able to cover me I had to hold that shit and almost die of dehydration on the line on a 100 degree day wih the grill right behind me (small store). and with health regulations, you cant have your own cup of water or water bottle near the food youre serving. After awile I would just be like fuck it and get water and go to the bathroom and I would get in trouble for it. and I would say "Nobody was covering me or could cover for me What do you want me to do? Piss myself? Dehydrate?" We were also told to stand in that spot were in all day for our whole shift. So lol if you were working that 8 hour shift and youre on the line putting the burritos and bowls together- youre standing in that ONE spot the WHOLE DAY... ESPECIALLY during peak hours, cause thats when we would get audited and its attractive to the customers and for the business. I would get in trouble for walking a couple steps behind me, they really expected you to be robots. Looking back on my time I worked there from 2015-2017 I would say it helps to be nice to those chipotle workers, and if theyre not crazy busy you may just get a little extra (not garunteed) but I sure as HELL didnt give af about those people who were nasty to me and wanted more meat, I remember giving them their energy back to them and telling them no in their energy cause I was just so sick of it. I was straight out of high school Having grown men yell at me over fast food. The job made me entirely miserable and it was a relief when I finally left, and I should have left sooner than I did. It did a wear and tear on my mental health and the job genuinely made me angry. I remember being all smiley when i first worked there. But dont recall the last year I worked there ever wearing a smile on the line, I was just going through my day with a stale face and giving peoples attitudes back to them, I'm suprised I never had anyone complain about it lol.

I dont work there anymore, but I crave it still constantly and have said to chipotle workers who stinged out on meat that i felt that wasn't the full spoon of meat. and if they say "oh so you want double then" I would reply "no, I just want a couple pieces more to make it the full four ounce spoon full" As the worker I remember even still when I would give just a few pieces more. My manager would pull me aside. Grab the serving spoon and scoop it into the chicken, shake the excess pieces off and say "You give wayyyy too much. This is what a full spoon full is worth. I saw you went in another time to give them a second spoon" Like I said, after all those "talkings" I would rather keep my job then keep the customer happy. My college books dont pay themselves.

I used to work for chipotle. We're trained to give 1 "serving" which is supposed to be the size of the spoon/scoop used 🙄 technically chipotle only charges for the meat that's why you can get extra beans rice and such w no additional charge.

I work at chipotle and the reason why we’re so stingy with the meat is because our managers are breathing down our neck about it. So imagine working the grill area and spending 20 or so minutes cooking and chopping steak just for it to run out within an hour because costumers want way more than what we can give them without expecting extra pay. THEN it becomes a huge cycle of everyone in line thinking “well HE got extra steak without having to pay, so why can’t I?” And then not only is the grill worker getting overwhelmed with shit he or she has to refill, but the food cost goes from 0 to 100 REAL quick.
