Lets take a look at what is wrong with this craftsman 5hp chipper/shredder. It has not been ran in years and appears to have a stuck engine. We will do our best to get this machine back in running condition to help with fall yard clean up.

Nice! I spent 5 hours running brush and limbs through mine about 2 months back. They work great but they will wear you out lol! Thank you for sharing!

I restored one larger but very similar model so far for a customer who requested one. I pulled it out of a basement and it was free. There’s an access port to remove the fasteners for the blades but to work on the hammers (which on some are reversible so they can be used in two or four different orientations) you need to separate the two halves of the machine. I discovered the knives need to be sharpened very well to a specific angle to work well so I ended up making a very simple jig to hold them in my vice to sharpen with a flap disk on an angle grinder. Also check to make sure the drain hole in the bottom of the assembly is clear so water can drain out if left outside uncovered. If it can’t drain this is where it will really rust.

I have the same one that you have but.mine has a regular 5 h.p Briggs and Stratton engine glad you got that machine in your fleet of lawn care equipment

Sometimes the commercials on these videos are so completely wacky, it just makes me laugh out loud. As I sit back waiting to watch Alex fix a chipper/shredder, the commercial interruption is Charlie Theron for J’Adore perfume. I doubt very seriously that guys like me watching small engine repair videos are the proper target market for women’s perfume. Lol

I wish we could still get the pickup tube with screen but I can’t find them anywhere, only have 11 left and 23 kits from b/s
