Our Portuguese Homestead

Күн бұрын

IT's been a busy week once again. We continued working in the garden, chipping some of the dead brush we have laying around and putting the chips on the pathways. We also visited our new friends Joseph and Mariana on their cherry farm in the Fundao area. But we always take time to enjoy the wildlife, and this week I was even able to film some for you :)

New here? My name is Lea and I live with my partner Maarten and our toddler Puck on our land in Central Portugal. We left the rat race in the Netherlands in 2018 and moved south in our old campervan. Two years ago we bought land in Portugal that had been abandoned for several decades. After lots of hard work we now live in a beautiful yurt and keep ourselves busy growing our own vegetables as well as producing olive oil, wine and honey on a small scale. This channel documents all the different jobs we have to do, and sometimes some nice footage of this beautiful country we now call home. Want to see more updates? Don't forget to subscribe!

The things I enjoy most is seeing the white winged doves drinking the water I leave for birds and seeing all the lizards here in such a small area. Geckos too, harder to see outside(little ones), but a bugger to catch if one comes inside.

@@ourportuguesehomestead , well, the cherries of Fundão became famous not very long ago because of this funny story: there was a Portuguese (from Fundão) manufacturer of candied cherries at an international food fair in England. A client told him he wanted all his production. Surprised, the guy started filling the order for all his cans of cherries, when the client replied "no, I don't want your cans, I want all your outstanding fresh cherries every year". And since then, cherries from Fundão are not seen for sell as before in all nation. And they are quite expensive. Cherries from Douro valley are also very good but yes, the ones from Fundão are the best.
