My name is Brian Fitzgerald - I'm an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at two venues. The Morack Public GC in Vermont South and the Lang Lang GC in beautiful South Gippsland (An hour and a quarter from Melbourne) where there are lot's of Kangaroos.
FAQ:
How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don't feel that old.
Why do you make videos for KZbin? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.
Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.
So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.
What do you film with? - I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I'm using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.
What do you edit with? - About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere - prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio
Do you make money off KZbin? - Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - Here's my ko-fi where you can buy me a coffee, beer or a burger should you wish (kind of like giving me a tip via : ko-fi.com/theg...
Thanks for watching!

This is very helpful. I struggle chipping and never even thought to try the same swing with a different club...I just change my swing and either undershoot or overshoot by a mile.

Hey peter great to hear from you. I’m glad golf is back open in France. I so wish I was coming over there this year. Maybe next year. Great observation with my chipping. It is but it is not something I have tried to achieve. It does happen but I don’t feel like it is. If that makes sense. It happens as a result of hand movement. Thanks for watching. Brian

So good Fitzy. And if your lie is tight, trying to play lofted pitches is so fraught with danger, with a tiny margin of error, often leading to blading it. So good to watch those 5 irons of yours. Ball/turf scuff strike. I've tried sticking with a 9 iron around the green and while kind of consistent, I'm consistently....short... :( Seeing your 5s or 7s depending on the situation, even a 3s or 4s if required, excellent. Thanks so much.

Yet again you nail it Brian, great drill and advice. I'll work on this one when the weather gets better, live in the upper Blue Mountains and at 1100meters and 50kl winds the fire and a beer are more conducive. Thanks for your wisdom. Once you Vic's get yourself sorted I'd like to touch base for some lessons if that can be arranged. Cheers.

Hi Anthony. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I have relatives living near you. I know it gets pretty chilly up there. You do cop it in winter and summer. The beer sounds good. Is there a local supplier you like. I’d love to be able to help you out. I think it will be sometime before we get back to anything approaching normal. We have a month of stage 4 to go and then we will probably go back to stage 3. No golf ranges open and golf in 2’s only. I look forward to Stage 2. Some people say that and implement the one club method. It does work for some people. I have tried it but in the end it was too inconsistent. It’s great seeing golfers back out again. As for me it’s a10 day wait for a tee time for me. I am sure it will die down a little soon. Thanks for watching.

@@fitzygolfpro Yes you are correct there mate, I went out to my Club this afternoon and took my 5, 6. 8, 9 & PW, practiced my approach from 140m,120, 100m and 40, used the 5 iron for the first time Chipping, with good success, also used my 6 iron for the 40m chips with good successes, and used it for 5 m chipping as well and that was a raging success, so thank you for alerting me to the fact that these clubs can be used for chipping as well, I was forever short using the PW and 7 iron for these shots and was long more often than not using the five, but at least I made the green which was a pleasant change, most of the shots were within 5 feet of the pin which I would get at least 80 percent of these, probably closer to 90 odd percent.so I think that I will pick up to 12 shots per 18 holes as it was often taking me 3 shots to make the green from 100m out which frustrated me no end, I have resolved to go out to the course once a week to practice the short game for an hour, PS I didn't take my driver and woods os hybrids, because I would have been tempted to play 9 holes instead of concentrating on my short game, I will let you know how I go in the Comp on Thursday

Thank you very much for the instruction and understand totally but what happen when the ball location was further away from the green when the same standard stoke doesn't allow the ball to land on the green for the roll (example : if the ball landed on the rough, the rolling distance will be totally different. No? ) How do we play those stokes ?

Our lockdown ended in Victoria last Wednesday David. We were the only state where golf was banned and when we returned last week it was straight back to groups of 4. The golf course and range is incredibly busy. It is great for the game but I am still worried about the lack of social distancing I am seeing everywhere. I have not ventured out to play yet. But I am coaching which is so good.. I hope things continue to get better and you get out on to the course soon. Brian

Thanks Alan. I am thinking two possibles or a combination of both. 1. You are using a club with too much loft for this shot. 2. Your hands are flicking through impact creating back spin. They should be fairly firm through the shot. We are trying to create the least amount of spin possible. 3. The combination of both. Let me know how it goes. Brian
