I’m so glad that you believe in constant narration during your tutorials. As a Beginner, I take no pleasure in watching the “Strong and Silent” type videos. I consider them a “Cop Out” and actually, somewhat narcissistic.

Do you always sand areas like the sails, or sometimes leave the #2 gouge marks?
@ChiseledOutdoorsCC Жыл бұрын
It depends on my goal for the project. If I want to try to carve realistic scenes I’ll sand or do whatever I can to achieve the look.

Good video. Only thing that would improve it is to include stropping the tools when they need it. Because it IS part of the process viewers should see it. Don't know why educational/how-to creators leave those steps out.

Thanks for your recommendation. The reason I didn’t was because sharpening and stropping is honestly a full length video in itself. I’m hoping to make a video at some point in the future covering it. There are a lot of great videos out there currently that cover it really well.

@@ChiseledOutdoorsCC Really? You don't strop tools during work? It doesn't take me long to run an edge 6-12 times along the leather. Even if you stop to sharpen then strop it should only take a minute or two. Seriously, a separate video to show you stropping a tool while carving a project isn't needed. But showing it as part of the project when you do it IS needed. Newcomers & those who are considering trying carvers are given the wrong impression by any video that doesn't show it.

The brand I primarily use is Pfeil. As far as specific gouges I kind of explain it in the video as I go.
