Great video!!! As a beginner what wood type would you suggest to start doing this?
@ChiseledOutdoorsCC2 жыл бұрын
@@adams13f I'd suggest a soft wood to start. Basswood is the most common. I personally like white pine, but some don't care for it. Either one I think is a great wood to start carving.

Impressive and amazing. I am sure your grandpa would be so proud of you and humbled of and at the dedication to your memory of him along with the time you spent with him at the cabin in the woods. Your story reminded me of the summer cabin we had on a lake and the memories I have with my father, not only there, but throughout my childhood those many years ago. Thank you!!!

Chiseled Outdoors Custom Carvings Hi there, I wonder if you would be interested to critique a mantle I’m working on if I sent over a couple of pics. It’s not done yet but it’s my first attempt at this style and similar in many ways to your sort of landscapes. Although not as good! It’s also in oak and quite a ‘wide angle’ so getting depth has been difficult. I have some difficulty with texturing too. Anyway it’s was just a general wondering, a pointer or two from you might prevent me from ultimately messing it up! Cheers!

Amazing work. May I know what kind of wood is better for carving wood wall art? And another question, is it possible to carve with Dremel 4000 like this hand tool? Of possible then could you please make a whole carving art with Dremel? Also, after finishing carving for polishing did you use anything? Actually, your videos encouraging me to try carving but scared whether it is possible for me who didn’t try before. Thank you.
@ChiseledOutdoorsCC2 жыл бұрын
Great wood to start carving with I'd say would be basswood and white pine. They are both forgiving and soft so they are easy on the gouges. They get difficult when you're trying to carve in tiny details though. Both have pros and cons but are great wood to start. I don't usually carve a whole piece just with a Dremel. My heart is tied to traditional gouges lol so I only use a Dremel to assist in areas or speed up the carve a bit. I usually finish a carving with stain and then I spray on several coats of polyurethane for protection. I'd definitely encourage you to try carving! You'll never know until you take that step.

Yeah the closest would be referring to the shallowest or like you say, the highest point.

Thank You. I'm working on a carve similar to this, my second relief carve. You seem to remove background first and work to the fore. Is that a good general rule? I am now subscribed. @@ChiseledOutdoorsCC
@ChiseledOutdoorsCC10 ай бұрын
I generally rough it out to the background and max depth then I work my way from shallow to deep. Generally the objects closer to the viewer need the most depth to carve so carving it this way allows you to make depth adjustments without worrying about ruining a finished portion of the carving beneath it. There are always exceptions though and really it comes down to personal preference.
