00:40 - the Government's methane target review
02:38 - how would Chlöe Swarbrick reform the Emissions Trading Scheme?
04:03 - cross-party work on a climate adaptation framework
04:39 - will the Greens' approach to climate policy be different now that James Shaw has left politics?
05:01 - is activism effective in progressing climate policy in Parliament?
06:20 - remembering the late Fa'anānā Efeso Collins
07:23 - Julie Anne Genter
10:57 - Darleen Tana

And by the way, Ms. Swarbrick should get her facts straight and stop speaking half-truths. For example, Ms. Genter did NOT immediately apologize after her outburst in the New Zealand Parliament. She only did so after the Speaker publicly rebuked her. I feel genuine pity for Ms. Swarbrick and quite many of her party colleagues. If or when such incidents abound, the New Zealand Greens will seem especially to many ordinary voters as just another political party - ethically inconsistent, elitist, out of touch, talking a great deal and saying quite little of substance, and claiming to follow higher ethical standards while compromising on them in their choices of various legislative candidates. Hopefully they will grow up, become more responsible, and be transformed into a more upright and ethically consistent party. Otherwise, several Green MPs, including even Ms. Swarbrick and Mrs. Davidson, will be in danger of losing their seats in the 2026 parliamentary elections.

The point of the journalist's questions on Ms. Genter and on Mrs. Tana is that New Zealand's Green Party has a potentially serious problem in the consistency of its ethical standards. If those two MPs are allowed to serve out the current parliamentary term, and especially if they commit additional ethically questionable or wrong actions, the Greens will increasingly appear as just another mainstream political party. Ms. Swarbrick is smart enough to understand the political and ethical implications of those two MPs' controversial cases. In the future, she should give straighter answers to such questions, instead of counter-asking, "What's the point?"

### Comment to Chlöe Swarbrick: Chlöe Swarbrick, I have some concerns about the emphasis on man-made climate change and the effectiveness of current green energy solutions. Significant flaws exist in the data supporting CO2 as the primary driver of climate change, with many scientists arguing that human emissions have minimal impact compared to natural factors. Moreover, the U.S. increasingly depends on China for essential materials for green technologies, raising economic and national security issues. Political motivations seem to influence climate policies, with actions taken more for securing votes than for genuine environmental benefits. Additionally, critiques highlight that most emissions come from developing countries like China, India, and Indonesia, where coal use is increasing, making U.S. efforts relatively insignificant on a global scale. Furthermore, the current green energy solutions are not as green as they seem. The Biden Administration's progress on building electric vehicle charging stations is far behind targets, and the extensive land required for wind and solar energy can harm natural ecosystems. Why do we only hear one side of the environmental debate? I'm all for being green (though not quite sold on the whole man-made CO2 saga), but let's talk about the real eco-villains: the tons of waste from making our beloved 'green' tech like solar panels, batteries, and wind turbines. There’s so much mining involved, it’s like a treasure hunt gone wrong! And oh, the plastic saga-my favorite! We've got plastic rubbish bags, paper bags lined with plastic, and now this new star on the block: 'biodegradable plastic.' If it's so biodegradable, why does it stick around longer than the embarrassing photos from my high school prom? Now, for a splash of cold, hard data-did you know that in the last 600 million years, the average CO2 level was about 2,600 ppm? That’s nearly seven times what we're panicking over today. And our quaint Quaternary period? It's seen the lowest CO2 levels, averaging around 230 ppm over the last 800,000 years, peaking at about 300 ppm some 320,000 years ago. Jumping up by 300 ppm could actually boost plant growth by about 46% across various crops. Makes you wonder if we’re missing the forest for the trees, huh? While we're getting tangled in debates over CO2 and methane, with their levels doing the cha-cha across millennia, let’s not forget the simple stuff. Like why native trees are the bee's knees for sustainable building compared to those quick-fix pines, or how farmers are quietly being eco-warriors by planting flax and shrubs along waterways. Seriously, these guys are the unsung heroes of the green movement! Why not focus more on immediate and tangible environmental issues such as waste management, preserving natural environments, and creating green spaces, which are crucial for our well-being? These actions provide immediate benefits and are less contentious than the current climate agenda. So, any current readings on CO2, or is that like trying to pin the tail on the donkey at a kids' party? Here’s to more robust, dirt-under-the-fingernails environmental chats on the show. Keep it up, and maybe throw in a word or two for those everyday eco-champions out there! Cheers!

But you did it anyway, because you're a goddamn moron. Also, farmers are the reason our rivers and lakes are unswimmable, because they dump nitrates in them like candy. but you think "They planted some flax!" absolves them. Note the stark difference between how National has dealt with MP David MacLeod over his non disclosure of donations and the Greens total lack of action with Genter. Just constantly repeating that her actions were ‘unacceptable’ is not enough. They need to show some backbone instead of the endless faffing and dancing on the head of a pin. They lost the last shred of integrity they had when James Shaw quit.

The cost of living crisis is ravaging the lives of most people and their families, and it's a wonder anyone can still afford to breathe. Housing and food costs are astronomical, and the fact that people are desperate for tax relief is hardly shocking. Yet, somehow, there are still those who have the audacity to shame others for seeking help to put a roof over their heads and food on the table. Newsflash: no one should be ashamed of needing support to survive. Especially not the squeezed middle-class, who are constantly screwed over by a system that denies them any semblance of assistance. So spare us the sanctimony and condescending lectures. Your ignorance is staggering.

@@TheMntnG Oh, so now the Greens are peddling their usual brand of misguided, socialist nonsense. A wealth tax? Rent controls? Huge increases in handouts? That's just a recipe for disaster. Do they really think punishing success and entrepreneurship will magically solve poverty? Newsflash: it won't. It'll just drive away investment, stifle innovation, and create a culture of dependency. And as for their obsession with 'helping the poor', maybe they should focus on creating actual opportunities for people to lift themselves out of poverty, rather than just doling out more taxpayer-funded goodies. The Greens' policies are a surefire way to keep people trapped in poverty, rather than empowering them to succeed. It's time to stop pandering to the Greens' misguided ideology and start pursuing policies that actually work. Let's promote economic freedom, personal responsibility, and real opportunity, rather than just throwing more money at problems and expecting them to go away

@@TheMntnG Oh, please, the Greens' policies are clearly designed to create a utopia where everyone is equally miserable. I mean, who needs personal freedom or economic growth when you can have the government dictating every aspect of your life? A wealth tax? Because punishing success and innovation is surely the way to drive progress. Rent controls? Because nothing says "fairness" like artificially manipulating markets and creating housing shortages. And huge increases in handouts? Because dependency on the government is the epitome of empowerment. Let's not forget the cherry on top: bankrupting the country with unrealistic social programs, ensuring future generations inherit a debt-ridden, stagnant economy. Bravo, Greens! Your vision for a socialist paradise is truly inspiring.

While Julie Anne's behaviour in the house was totally unacceptable I can completely understand how frustrated she must be with the total stupidity behind National's transport policies -absolutely ill-informed and causing huge costs to tax payers. Julie Anne warned about the costly pitfalls with the PPP to build Transmission Gully (which was ignored) and now we will have to funnel billions into a completed road for many years that would have been better spent in health or building more houses. Removing Julie Anne's wisdom from the transport discourse would not be helpful. Support to manage her frustrations would be useful.

@@macunion1225Not being born here would have cut out many of our greatest politicians like Michael Joseph Savage. Establishing a cycling culture in NZ is really important, most of Europe have embraced cycling as it helps reduce traffic congestion and has so many other benefits. Sadly there is always an adjustment period but I am aware that many businesses do better in centre of cities when there are more pedestrian and cycling areas. Julie Anne visited Invercargill many years ago and provided advice based on her transport management experience. It was rejected at the time in favour of cars. About 10 years later what she had proposed has been enacted and it has huge support. It totally revitalised our central city.

It'd be like watching paint dry, but less exciting. And don't even get me started on Julie Anne Genter's 'contribution' to Let's Get Wellington Moving - more like Let's Get Wellington Snoozing! Six whole years of Labour/Greens in control, and what did we get? Zilch, zip, nada. Just a whole lot of hot air and empty promises. It's like they were trying to outdo each other in a game of 'Who Can Talk the Most Without Actually Doing Anything'. Meanwhile, the rest of us were left waiting... and waiting... and waiting. @@danielphillips4399 you obviously don’t realise the ongoing cost of transmission gully will restrict investment into other projects for many years. It was a massive bungle. Every time we have a National led government they claim to be responsible managers and then we discover the catastrophic costs of deregulation and under-investment. We are still dealing with the multi-billion dollar leaky building debacle from the 90s. Let’s deal with realities and fact rather than the myth of National’s competency. Already we have had minister after minister demonstrate no understanding of their portfolios and two have had them removed.

@@davidkennedy8871Nonsense! The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) funding for Transmission Gully was a game-changer. It ensured the project was actually completed, unlike the previous six years under the former administration, which were marked by endless talk and no tangible progress. The PPP model got the job done, while the previous government was all talk and no action, wasting billions of dollars on fruitless discussions. It's time to acknowledge the effectiveness of the PPP approach and move forward, rather than dwelling on baseless criticisms.
