S Harrison What a long and painful process! Was it 7-9 days? My clients are happy when I do it in 2-3 days. Day-1 shock it good to kill all algae. Day-2 add chemical which will drop everything visible to the bottom. Day-3 Water is crystal clear with all the filth at the bottom. Vacuum to waste and within 1 hour ready to swim. No need to run client pump for days and wash filters etc.

I recommend doing a drain and clean if its a possibility. Reason is, sometimes you can have a lot of objects at the bottom that can get sucked in and mess up your pump. I once did a drain on a neglected pool that had nuts and bolts, silverware, broken plants, dead frogs, tree branches and even some rebar at the bottom. Since then, if its a long time neglected pool I only do a drain and clean.

Great advice. If you are doing this to your own pool and you want it done faster you can keep the filter running from the start and backwash/clean the filter when the pressure increases 10% over a clean filter. Secondly I wouldn't add calcium to my pool as I don't like the scaling as a result so I just use bleach (Home Depot brand has 50% more active chlorine vs. chlorox as of today- around 10%) I use the trouble free pool method and I can clean it up to sparkling in two days but this does require many many backwashes and chemical (pH and chlorine adds) treatments.

@ChlorineKingPoolService Жыл бұрын
Hey Kimberly. I’m glad it’s helping. If I’m dealing with phosphates I try to take care of that first. If I decide to use clarifier I don’t put it in until the pool looks a cloudy white. That way I know the algae is dead and it’ll help the filter catch the cloudy particulates. I hope this helps.

I learned so much from this video. You're awesome!!! I do have a question. I've got a above ground pool & had it for 5 years, how do I know when I need to replace or add more sand? I've never added or replaced the sand & just had concerns if the sand is cleaning my pool correctly.
@ChlorineKingPoolService5 жыл бұрын
I'm glad it helped Lisa. The sand filter should have a sand change once every 4-5 years, so it's probably due. It's very possible if you are noticing a constant cloudiness that it's possible the sand needs to be changed. Personally, I'd forgo that and put in a cartridge filter. Much easier and better filtration to boot. Have a great weekend.

Only question I have is...isn't adding shock directly through the skimmer dangerous if they have a chlorinator/tablet feeder? I've heard of explosions happening due to this. Just curious....
@ChlorineKingPoolService7 ай бұрын
Hey bud, yes in extreme and rare occurrences it can be. This system didn’t have one. There are a couple of things you can do to mitigate it. 1) Remove the tabs from feeder. 2) Open the tab feeder to max circulation. 3) After removing the tablets close the feeder knob off (or as low as possible) and then flush the feeder tube with a hose until it overflows. Let that run for a few minutes. 4) Remove the plastic tubing and let the cal hypo run through the system and back into the pool before reinstalling. That will limit cal hypo into the feeder. Keeping the system running 24/7 also helps migrate the issue. Use at your own risk or course. Those are just some ideas to help.

Sometime ago i used from green to blue and ever since then i have this gray thin layer on bottom of pool. I know it happened because i was suposed to back wash the pool but at the time i did not know and i dont have the back wash option on my pump. The particles are too small for the filter to catch it. How can i get rid of it? What can i put so they come up to surface and i can clean it or they become thicker so the filter can catch it. I have over 20k g pool i cant afford to drain it. @mooky4075 жыл бұрын
I've found sometimes that my methods change, or at least evolve, in some areas over time. Do you find this to be true in regards to green pools? Is your process the same now as it was in 2017? For example, I use a flocculant to settle everything (after the algae is dead, of course) and then vacuum all the garbage to waste. It's been a real time saver for me. And the time I save more than offsets the cost of the floc. Or have you tried the flocculant approach and then abandoned it for the method presented? Just curious.
@ChlorineKingPoolService5 жыл бұрын
Great question Mooky. Yes my processes are always evolving. I would probably do some things a little different today, but that as actually my last real green pool that I took on. I’ve done some half hearted ones where it wasn’t really a green pool, just a couple of shock treatments. I used floc before and had success with it. I found that the conditions need to be right and to make sure to not add too much when dosing they pool. The floc method is awesome for covered pools where you don’t have to worry about a bunch of debris stirring it up. Thanks for watching and subscribing!

Shock is a process not a product. But yes, powdered chlorine or liquid would be great if needed. If the chlorine goes under a 10 I generally would add more to keep it killing the algae. Once you have the blueish/clioudy look then you can let it lower to normal levels. At that point the algae is gone.

@ChlorineKingPoolService8 ай бұрын
If it’s cloudy green you need more chlorine. What type of filter do you have? Do you see circulation in the pool? Keep the pump running and filter clean if you have it filtering. The water will help keep the motor cool. The more you run the pump and the cleaner you have the filter the quicker it will clear up. But you really want the cloudy blue look. If it’s cloudy green the algae still isn’t dead. ☠️

What are your chemical readings. The pool cleared out with a vacuuming but there wasn’t a lot of debris in the pool with it being screened in. It sounds like you don’t have stabilizer and low chlorine because of the rain and lack of stabilizer.
@ChlorineKingPoolService7 ай бұрын
It all depends on the size of the filter, pump, how it’s plumbed, how many lines are opened, etc. it’s all about hydraulics for what causes the starting psi of the filter to be where it is. Given the pool is clear, filter is new/clean and lines are clear among other variables.

Wonderful video. Thank you for taking the time for all of us DIYers. Finally, when you vacuumed did it fill up the new filter and raise the pressure? Thanks again

The main reason is there was not a solid vac to waste line on this equipment. All this pad had was a ball valve which would let some water pass through into the filter. So either you destroy the filter or treat it chemically. This pool was one reason I built a secondary cart system just so I can vac to waste.

What happens if I do not remove the filter from the beginning?

It’ll just clog the cartridge and basically slow down the process of getting it cleared up.

My pool looks exactly the same, a mix of algae and pollen, plus my phosphates are over 2500. Would I have to use Phosfree in this process, and at what stage would I add the phosfree? Before the acid?..... Thanks
@ChlorineKingPoolService6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. I've never used phosphate remover during a green cleanup. Once the pool is clear I'd consider adding a treatment just to catch any left over from the cleanup. Just be cautious some variants of phosphate remover have been known to clog the filter. Good luck!

I have had a little Black Algae. About 3 instances in the last 3 weeks. I have a small 7500 gallon, white plaster salt pool. What is the best way to get rid of black algae for good?
@ChlorineKingPoolService6 жыл бұрын
Is it in small spots or heavy amounts? 1) You need to scrub the gelatinous coating protecting the black algae spore with a metal brush. You can reach down and feel that it's "slimy". The brush will remove this and expose it. 2) Then depending on the amount you could either sprinkle some dichlor on it, or rub it with a trichlor tablet. If you rub it with a tablet you should see it disappear almost immediately. 3) Give the pool a good shock afterwards to finish them off. Good luck!

Hello, so when u open up a pool after being full of green, if we circulate water, not filter. We wont b wasting so much time, right???
@ChlorineKingPoolService6 жыл бұрын
Well, if the pool is green I always like to bypass the filter for the first day so I can guarantee the chemicals will get mixed in the best possible. If the filter bogs down in the first 20 minutes of run time, and the pool doesn't circulate well, then you can lose time having to add more chemicals on your next visit to kill all of the algae. Once the pool is a whiteish blue (algae dead) then I start filtering it all out. You could also, at that point, add some First Aid and it'll start clearing up the cloudy water.

Should the chemicals be added at night so they don't burn up in the sun?
@ChlorineKingPoolService6 жыл бұрын
That would be ideal especially in a pool with lower stabilizer like this one had. However, I was doing a few of them at the same time and it's inevitable that you'll have to add them during the morning/daytime depending on your schedule. For that particular pool I was doing 2 visits per day so that helped as well.

I have a de filter but I don't seem to have a setting for recirculate. I only have the regular setting and the backwash setting. Any suggestions for getting my pool cleaned? It clogs up the filter pretty bad after only a few hours.
@ChlorineKingPoolService5 жыл бұрын
One thing you can do for the first chemical circulation period is to backwash the filter and then don't put DE back into it. If you don't have DE a lot of stuff will pass through that would normally clog up. I would then install a diverter valve before the filter (or upgrade your multi port valve that has a waste and recirculate mode) and vac out as much as you can to waste. Then put it back into filter mode and catch all the small stuff. I hope this helps.

I have a question, I just pressure washed my pool after draining it when it was black, And I just wanted to know if it was normal to have it a bit cloudy after? and also if I should clean my sand filter.
@ChlorineKingPoolService6 жыл бұрын
How long was the pool sitting for? It's possible when you pressure washed the pool you pulled some surface off with it so when you filled it the water got cloudy. Did you rebalance the pool? Just backwash the sand filter, add some clarifier, and it should clear up. You could also flock it and vac to waste to get rid of the cloudiness.

In a situation where the pH level is low and the pool is green like it was in the video. would you still add acid to the pool? To help kill off the algae or would you go ahead and start adding the bicarb to raise the pH?
@ChlorineKingPoolService4 жыл бұрын
If the PH is low I’d go ahead and shock the pool with Chlorine. Once the algae is gone then I’d worry about being it back up. Remember, the lower the pH the more effective the chlorine will be, which will allow you to fix the pool quicker and with less chemical. Take care and good luck!
@thenotsosecretlifeofnate6364 жыл бұрын
Chlorine King Pool Service thank you so much. I have another question for you. It’s not relevant to the situation in this video. On a Sta-Rite filter, I’m having a hard time getting the lid to come off. The ring that circles around and locks it in is stuck. The clamps that are on the side, normally are able to be pressed in and then the ring is able to spin and come right off. But the clamps are stuck, I can’t get them to be pressed in. I’m using all my bodyweight to try to get it off but I’m having no luck whatsoever. I know there is not a O-ring in it. What can I do to get it to open?
@ChlorineKingPoolService4 жыл бұрын
Yikes. That’s a tough one. Can you try tightening the ring at all and see if they become loose? That’s happened to me before. It sounds like the ring is cross threaded possibly?
@thenotsosecretlifeofnate6364 жыл бұрын
Chlorine King Pool Service Unfortunately I can’t do anything with it, I believe it may be crossed threaded as well. The ring, it appears to be sort of crooked not in a perfect symmetrical line that it should be. I have a feeling that’s due to the O-ring missing. Do you have any recommendations that I can do to get it unstuck? Do you think it’s because of the lack of O-ring that’s why it got stuck?
@ChlorineKingPoolService4 жыл бұрын
I’ve done this, in very extreme circumstances and it’s worked but you have to be VERY, VERY careful. If you have unions remove the filter from the plumbing. I’d not, make sure you step on the base. Take a hammer and gently tap on a handles on the ring. Start very lightly. You don’t want to hit it too hard and crack it. I hope this helps. Good luck.

I add 10-15 lbs of 78% cal hypo shock. & 1 bottle of Orenda Phosphate Remover with Pool in Recirculate. I let it run for 15 -20 min in recirculate then shut the system down. @ChlorineKingPoolService5 жыл бұрын
There's nothing wrong with adding liquid and cal hypo on the same day. What I wouldn't add is cal hypo and bicarb. That will create a chemical reaction that causes a cloudy "sidewalk chalk" to be created and takes forever to get out of the pool.

Help me please. I have a vinyl pool that will not clear. Shocked multiple times and when I attempt to vacuum I am fighting a mud like substance at the bottom. When i vacuum it seems like i am mixing that mud with any water with little to no results..what should I do?
@ChlorineKingPoolService6 жыл бұрын
Hey Daniel, I'd be careful draining a vinyl pool. I've been told they can come off the tracks if you aren't careful and the liner may wrinkle. The sand filters delays clean outs because the filtration isn't as strong as a cartridge or DE. What I would do is kill the algae, flock it to the bottom, and then vacuum to waste. That way you're not draining your pool and risking damaging it while not waiting on a sand filter to clean the water.
@gingymartinez45524 жыл бұрын
Is your process still the same, or has it changed? Any quicker ways of getting the pool clear?

do you have to remove the filter when add acid? I always leave it in there
@ChlorineKingPoolService5 жыл бұрын
No, not at all. Adding acid is fine with the cartridge in. The reason I say remove the element in the beginning is so it doesn't get bogged down and slow down the circulation. If that were to happen it's probable that the chlorine won't get around to all of the algae to kill it. I hope this helps!
