One of the best dessert recipes I've ever made! My family and I love how decadent it is, especially with the ice cream. I like it with Dutch processed cocoa powder, but I honestly prefer it with natural cocoa powder. It tastes more like something I would get at a chain restaurant and brings back good memories. This is definitely a new staple recipe in our house

The first time I made this self-saucing pudding, I was having friends over for dinner and just before I was about to serve dinner my water broke and had to go to hospital (1st baby 9 days overdue), so my friends stayed got to eat the dinner and dessert... I had to wait and try it again later!!! LOL

I made this cake today and it's amazing!!! The sauce gets thicker as it cools. It goes great with coffee ice cream. I will be making this again. Thanks for another terrific recipe, Stephanie.

As a kid in the 70's I can remember my mother making this in a large bowl that she baked in the oven. (I think it was Dr. Oetker or Sheriff brand?) We all loved it but it still tasted *boxed.* Looking forward to trying this upgraded version for memories sake :) Thank you for the brilliant fall recipe.

Thank you so much! My mother made this cake and so did my sister but I lost the recipe! It's such a surprise, moist, and the built-in pudding is divine! Forget lava cake this is easier and tastier! The boiling water is the trick of this cake! PS: This is the perfect cake for people that aren't big bakers and lack equipment / skills and just want something that is hot, cozy, and a warm hug :)

Thank you Stephanie, this is a cake from my childhood. When I was a teen they use to have a boxed cake on the market that made this kind of cake and I always wanted to learn to make it from scratch. I remember it tasting like a chocolate cake with Hershey’s hot fudge poured on top, YUMMY! 😋 So I can’t wait to try it. Thank again 😁👍 Dee🥰

Growing up we made this from scratch regularly, a lemon version too. The recipe is in the Betty Crocker cook book (no egg in the BC recipe) I got when I got married, just had my 50th anniversary and I still make this dessert - it’s always a hit.

I grew up with this cake and you’re right, we would whip it up on a school night and while we ate dinner, it was baking. We loved it. There was another one we made from a box mix that my mom got from AmWay or the Fuller Brush Man (I’m talking about the 60’s and 70’s, lol) or some company like that. It was butter pecan. Brownie Pudding :) Love it. Grew up on it and love to make it. I usually double it because 8x8 isn't enough. I like it out of the oven about a 1/2 hour so the "pudding" forms more. Thanks for doing this recipe. I'll have to give yours a try - except the nuts. :)
