But you know this is a passionate sport. I think finding the balance between being calmed waiting the moment and struggling to defeat the oponent is the real test for all of us

This was a fantastic match but Tachimoto v Polling in the 2016 Olympics was the most dramatic for me. They met in the early rounds but it should have been the final as they were both far and away ahead of anyone else at 70kg at the time. Polling had the early advantage but Tachimoto came back to win an incredible bout between these two warriors and superstars.

Thank you. I'll check that match out. Surprised those 2 met before the medal rounds.

@@non-stopnewaza9266 It was obvious from when she was a teenager that Tachimoto was an outstanding talent and would go right to the top. She beat a certain Ronda Rousey in the Belgian Open, aged 17! Rousey was 21. Tachimoto however, lost her way slightly in 2013 and her ranking suffered. She improved in 2014 and by 2015 was destroying everyone again. She wasn't though, active enough to move up the rankings to obtain her rightful place of either 1 or 2 hence why she and Polling met in the early rounds. Both were sensational players although Polling may have peaked in 2014 whilst Tachimoto was in top form. They're similar age, their careers mirrored each other and they met 5 times overall. It was 3-2 to Tachimoto.

Arai had superior technique, esp. Newaza, but Taimazova went out on her shield, fighting and resisting to the end. They are both Champions, I think, with Arai being the better of the 2. The double knee seioi nage is excellent when done cleanly, but when Tori bounces Uke first onto their head on the way over, I don't like it. I have seen severe, potentially life-altering head/neck injuries from negligent double knee drop seioi nage. For this reason I do not think Junior Judokas should be allowed to use it in competition.

Really amazing fight. Both are great. I remember the similar fight between Abe Uta and Kelmendi in semifinal Tokyo 2019. And at 2:41 it isn't controversy it isn't sukachi because Tamaizova didn't any active move and she avoids uchi mata by Arai only. We can see diference in the last part your compilation at 3:41 when Tamaizova by actively movement lead her opponent to the back after opponent's uchi mata attempt.

I agree with you. The members of the Russia Judo team watching booed heavily when the video ref ruled that it wasn't a throw and there were some complaints online about this decision at the time. That's why I called it a controversy.

What's more surprising to me was that Taimazova appeared on the mixed team event three days later the long-fight, choking and face injury, and fought all three matches and won all except for the re-match with Arai. I think the Russian team should have used their players more carefully even though Putin was watching on TV expecting the team's winning.

I think the Russians only had her for the =70 spot in the team event. And in the Olympics you can't bring substitutes so she had to fight.

@@reymysterio13__50 Ideally yes. But practically couldn't they use a -63kg player for the spot at least one of the three fights of the mixed team? Japan used Uta Abe (-52) for -57 sopt and France used Clarisse Agbegnenou (-63) for -70 slot. If they really think of the player, Russians should have used another judoka for Taimazova.

@@user-iw7ks5jy6x I don't remember if they had an athlete that qualified to the Olympics at -63kg. For example, Brazil didn't have a -57kg representative at the last Olympics, so they had to use the -52kg judoka in the Team event.

I think that the referee needed more skill and experience to stop the match immediately the one was unconscious. Also the one who is made unconscious should not be allowed for another match on the same day. Notice the position of the referee. From that position, he could not see the face of the one who was choked. Health and welfare of all contestants should be above the win or loss of a match. Shime and Otoshi are fundamentally different from mage or katame. Shime and Ochi are deadly technique. If defeated by Shime and Ochi, the one should be retired from the competition. Those who cannot admit defeat is not fit for budo.

Thank you Eiyaku for sharing your opinion. I agree with you 100%. Someone that is made unconscious should be put on rest for the day at minimum automatically and cleared medically before returning to competition. The risk of repeating of the same kind of insult to the brain can be seriously damaging. I found judo referring really weird, slow and hesitant. They need to lose the suit and get into position fast with their athletes. Chokes are often held for way too long if the ref is not right on top of it. I don't think it is because they refuse to admit defeat, it is more because they black out before they can tap out.

@@boudibla4011 The reason why there are karantene rules in boxing after a knock-out is due to risk of concussions and internal bleeding. In judo there are no blow to head, so there is no danger to continue after some rest. The Kodokan institute has studied the effect of chokes for decades, no danger for normal fit persons, unless you hold the choke for minutes...
