@@tiadanama4512 Your statement does not make any sense. Chola Empire defeated the Srivijaya Kingdom and ended the Sailendra Dynasty. There are severeal evidence for this. The Sailendras ceased to exist after the invasion of Rajendra Chola. After the Chola invasion a huge amount of Tamil inscriptions started to spread in Indonesia, Malaysia and southern Thailand. The Chola Emperor Kulothunga Chola was even called by the Chinese as the King of Chola and Srivijaya. And even a Malaysian text of the 15th century mentions the Chola invasion of Malaysia. And the Malaysian term for ship called Kappel comes from the Tamil word for ship which is also Kappel.

1. The word “Navy” is a gift to the present day world from Tamil. It is derived from the Tamil word “Naavaai”. 2. Sozhlas (Cholas) had a dedicated naval fleet. 3. Rajarajan did not invade Sinhalese. He recovered northern Tamil territories from Sinhalese invasion, which was later completely recovered by Rajendran. 4. Rajendra Sozhlan did not directly attack Sri Vijayan kingdom who held Sozhlan merchant vessels, he split his fleet into two, where one sailed straight and the other sailed the unknown and circled back the island without modern navigational compass as in use today. Based on a Chinese traveler record, Cholas had 60k war elephants. With 2 million army personals. Not sure how they maintained such a huge administration. Their army also participated in construction of largest man made lakes like veera narayana lake wh still suppy the 50% water for chennai.

​@@vishalautade509 Refer Chau Ju-kua travel records. This population count may not be common in European history. But It is very common in Indian and Chinese history. Eg. 1. Battle of Maski, Chola's army strength was recorded as 900k. 2. Battle of Red Cliffs: Cao Cao's army strength was recorded as 800k. These were invasion forces, which means ~50% force had to be left to guard their home base and other borders. These numbers were confirmed by multiple sources. I don't think it is wise to challenge that. There is a reason why Indian and Chinese regions could afford such a huge population. Do not view Eastern history with western mindset.

Dear Sister, Thank you for bringing limelight to our history . The Cholas had a standing army consisting of 9 lakh men and 60 thousand elephants, at that time. But no standing navy as you mentioned. The Srivijaya kingdom emboldened by this factor Plundered Merchant ships from TamilNadu and killed or maimed the merchants who resisted.. The Merchants delegation petitioned King Rajendra Chola to protect them from those who harmed them. The Ambassadors of Sri Vijaya kingdom where summoned and severely warned about the consequences of attacking chola ships. But Sri vijays king ignored the warnings as he considered chola kingdom as a lesser Naval power he continued the plundering. . As a retaliation fto horrendous crimes committed against Tamil Seafarers , Rajendra chola built a large navy and captured Sri Vijaya kingdom and their allies. The Chola king captured all the coastal regions controlling Indian Ocean and made sea journey safe for all. The Indian Ocean was known at that time as "The Chola Lake" . The coastal region along bay of bengal are under Chola region in tamil as "Chola Mandalam" Which is then later known as " Coramandal Coast".

Being a person from Thanjavur, I studied about Jalaluddin Mohammed babar, Humayun, Shershah suri,Akbar, Allauddin killji, Balban, Kuthbuddin aibak, Aurangzeb, etc etc but not about any Indian kings. About Mohammed Gazhnavi invaded Somnath and failed 17 times and succeeded in his 18th attempt for his untiring effort. But not about the courage and braveness of the Indian king who defeated him 17 times. This is the pathetic condition of our education system.😢

The sad part is we first came to know about the cholas from a fiction novel written by the great Tamil writer Kalki in the 50s who recreated the journey back in time in the most stunning way and based on which the movies PS1 and PS2 where released. One must visit the Brahadeshwara temple in one’s lifetime to experience the grandeur and outstanding architecture. Ideally some symbol the cholas like the tiger flag or coin etcshould be part of Indian navy flag…
