+49jubilee Hmmmm, interesting....I wonder if they actually knew they were singing in a "black style", or just thought they were singing in an American style. I've seen several KZbin vids in which people stated that in Korea, "American" is equated with being white, and that only whites are "real Americans". I've also heard/read that Koreans in general disparage black people, and think "white is right". If that's true, how do they reconcile much of K-pop's love for hip-hop and rap musical influences that often sound as if they came "straight outta Compton"? There's a kind of cognitive disconnect that happens when you hear Koreans, born and raised in Seoul, rapping in Korean with voice inflections that sound distinctly black and urban. LOL!

one thing needed to be kept in mind is that the photos of these celebrities are most likely wearing foundation or concealer that could make them look lighter/darker. the dame could be said of camera angles and lighting. if Taylor swift, untanned, is photographed outside in the sunlight, she will look very pale. I also believe that they may chose one photo over another depending on random factors such as their clothes or hair style.

That proofs some people look better with and some better without tan. My perdonal oponion is that most of the people look better witz their natural skin color. For example if you are a born white with blond hair and blue eyes, white suits you better than tan. And if you are born brown than Brown will suit you better than bleached skin. Everything that is natural or at least looks natural looks better. But that just my opinion, everybody can see this differently.

I can understand why people get upset when watching these types of videos because viewers look for confirmation in the Korean people's comments, especially some people of color. The opinions of a few Korean people do not represent the opinions of the whole Korean race. I like these videos and I'm glad that Megan is doing them. The comments in the last video didn't surprise me too much but it's interesting that one of the guys in the video before said Beyoncé was too dark for his taste then turn around and say tanning is sexy. It's like saying it's ok if it's a tan but I don't want my girlfriend to naturally have dark skin. There are Koreans who like darker skin women but the love of lighter skin in Korea is still widely more excepted and yes it has cultural background to it but that doesn't mean it's not hurtful to people of color. I think that black kpop fans and fans of Korean culture should stop trying to find clarification in Koreans. Find people who love you for you in Korea.
@shirotsukishima39549 жыл бұрын
It was interesting to hear their points of view but its bugging me that people say tans look healthy... Natural tan or doing uv is really not healthy, it's killing your skin's cell slowly and increases risks of skin cancer... The only healthy way to tan is with tanning cream/self-tanning
@frequencyreached9 жыл бұрын
That's not true at all. A little sunlight is good for everyone. We all need Vitamin D. I actually read an article that many Korean women avoiding sunlight is resulting in an unsual case of vitamin D deficiency.
@luckystarlight9 жыл бұрын
+frequencyreached Hahaha going out in the sun like a normal person does not equal tanning. It's not the same at all. Tanning is very very unhealthy and will give you skin cancer. Most of these photos though are spray tans, not tanning bed tans.
@shirotsukishima39549 жыл бұрын
frequencyreached "A little sunlight" Exactly!!! Not laying on a beach for hours! i think you misunderstood my point, sun has some benefits but if you're not very careful the damages are irreversible
@frequencyreached9 жыл бұрын
Pastel Wolf Well there are different skin types. For a lot of people a normal day in the sun can result in a darker shade and if you have darker skin, melanin is added protection so a couple of hours of direct sunlight for a lot of people is nothing. I was just pointing out the that the OPs post was a bit exaggerated.

Skin tone/colour should never be an issue. I honestly think whatever shade you’re born with suits you the most. Fake tan, however, that’s a crisis. It’s funny though, it’s so popular here in Australia and those who apply it will belittle fairer-skinned folk, yet it’s not even natural and they’re actually pale themselves. ?? It reminds me of when peroxide blondes act as though it’s their natural hair colour, lmao.

"Her body and her face are extremely sexy, so I think darker skin suits her better..." My husband, an Asian American, cringed when he heard this. He said he doesn't think the guy on 3:23 meant any harm, but he shouldn't make comments like this for a western audience. It sounds like he was sexualizing dark skin women... We know he didn't mean that, it's just how some people here would understand his comment. :) Great video, thanx. :)
@Irgendwienicht1008 жыл бұрын
No, it's more like Americans that would think that way...Really, Americans are really the only people that always think of racism when hearing things like that. It's not like I want to offend you or something, it's just that you guys think that racism will disappear when you try to not say anything related to race, even if it isn't, but as long as it is on your mind, racism will never ever disappear... I live in europe in a pretty big city, with many different kind of people, from different countries and also different skin colours that have all different cultures (So many, that my citie, at least for the people that live here, is already known for the mixed cultures) and I don't even realise it anymore. I also know that you're 'teached' that way, so it's not really your fault that you are so sensitive in this topic, but it's just something I wanted you to think about...
@MsBrazillionaire8 жыл бұрын
I agree in part with what you said. Yes, Americans do have this problem with race, mostly because of the history of the country however, Americans are not the only ones with this kind of mentality. I was born in Brazil and lived there until I was 10 years-old, then moved to the States, my mom is half American half German and my dad is Brazilian of Portuguese and Italian descent. I guarantee you that many Brazilians, Argentinians and other Latin Americans would think of race if they heard something like that. Of course, not everybody will think the same way, but many of them would see it as racist and stereotypical. Also, I wasn't the one that cringed when I heard him saying that, my husband did. My husband was born in the US, but he's Filipino/Chinese and spent most of his life in the Philippines. I've been to the Philippines and China several times. In many Asian countries Russian women are seen as prostitutes, French women are seen as the most gorgeous in the world and black women are seen as nothing but a sexual object. Something to have fun with, experiment, but never to have a serious relationship with. All these ideas are based on race and/or nationality. The stereotype that black women are sexy, strong and not sensitive, white women are angels and faithful to their husbands, and Asian women are submissive still exists in many countries.
@Irgendwienicht1008 жыл бұрын
MsBrazillionaire When I said 'Americans' I meant all Americans (Also latin Amricans)...Not just the people that live in the USA, cause I know those are not the only people in America. I also never said that you were the one that cringed, I know that it was your husband. I just wanted to refer to the the statement "but he shouldn't make comments like this for a western audience". And at the end I just want to say that the man could've just said 'She looks sexier with darker skin, so I think it suits her better' and the translation was just not on point. ^ ^ (I am from Germany too btw, because you mentioned that your mother is half German :D)

Saying someone looks too white is equivalent to saying someone looks too black. Black people would flip out if you said that to them, but white people take it lying down. It's not right. Love the skin you are in.

let's not forget that in America or Canada or in most places it's much more diverse and everyone is taught that that's insulting. In Asian countries most of them have never even seen a white or black person except for behind a screen. they don't know any better because no one told them not to growing up. So it's a cultural difference.

@sadia87178 жыл бұрын
you should love the skin you are in regardless but please don't say 'too white' is the same as 'too black' bc white people were never actively murdered and oppressed for their skin. And white people, despite paleness or tanness are way more represented in various media e.g name how many movies there are starring black leads compared to white leads in hollywood, and how many black/asian/latinx characters in books are cast white white actors.
@Truth4peace4freedom8 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind the USA is a mostly white country. It was about 95% white before the immigration law change of 1965, which has sent the white population down to 65% today.....which is why Hollywood is mostly comprised of white actors. Japan is almost 95% Japanese.....do other cultures and races complain of being underrepresented in Japan's media? Nope. And yes, white people were enslaved by Arabs. Plus, white farmers are killed by the 1,000s in South Africa by blacks.....so your statement doesn't hold much merit.
@sadia87178 жыл бұрын
Truth4peace4freedom okay maybe i'm wrong then about white people being oppressed bc i didn't know about those specific situations. That doesn't change the fact that eurocentric standards of beauty exist. lets take your example of Japan. Even though 95% of people in Japan are Japanese, models and those in their media are disproportionately white. This is because it's been decided that white european features were somehow more attractive and everyone else simply has to conform which includes surgeries to change eye shape,nose shape, skin bleaching and many other things that are so common in Japan. You might counter this by saying how white people are under pressure to look more ethnic and pressured to tan or get lip injections or whatever. This is different because it is something a lot of poc find offensive because our racial features that we were ridiculed and oppressed for, and still are oppressed for, are suddenly trendy and white people are praised for them. Its a bit of a slap in the face. Also, your idea about proportional representation in the media is flawed. I'm not asking that there be exactly 65% of white people in media in comparison to 11% of black people or whatever, I'm asking for positive representation of black people if any. What is so wrong about asking for representation of black people in the media so that little black kids can find people on tv that look like them who arent either in a casket or in handcuffs. Positive role models is all i'm asking for, what little representation black people get is really negative and thats why representation in media is so questionable as well as 'too white'/'too black'. There's just a clear difference, especially when you consider that the roles that were written for poc roles are so often given to white people? why? honestly it just seems like casting white people is just more convenient for hollywood, eg emma watson's new film where she plays an egyptian woman, and that recent peter pan film where the native american girl is played by a white woman. Honestly you can come up with as many excuses as you want but its more common than you think. Type in 'beautiful woman' into google and tell me how many black women come up, i've scrolled pretty far down just to see and i havent even seen 1 yet. The problem with saying 'too black' or 'too brown' is that the whole world is constantly screaming at us 'too black'/'too brown' in so many different ways.

I think it's interesting how a lot of them associated a tan with a sexy look. One of the things that stood out to me was when one of them said that people with model-like bodies look better when they're pale. It makes me think that the expectation that women with darker skin (for example: Mexican women like me) should have a more sexy type of body (voluptuous) also translates to other countries besides the United States. Very interesting video! I love seeing different points of views. 😊
@syoungcyipo22139 жыл бұрын
+Dulce Pérez her point was -a ppl with model-like look better when they're pale- tanned skin make them look thinner so better be pale.. but you've made the right conclusion, koreans do think tanned skin girls tend to be sexy.

@leenamyleen70459 жыл бұрын
+Helen C You don't need any spray tanning sweetie. Stay with your skin, and most importantly, stay healthy. People are born with different skintones, you have pale skin and it is just as beautiful as tan skin. And it is more sensitive so please, take care of your beautiful skin.

In Asia, people prefer fair skin over tan, I don't understand why people like tanning in the west?
@itsnotif.itswhen7 жыл бұрын
you stole my cookie?! anways, To prove they are healthy and have money to afford vacations in sunny places. People want what they don't have. Asians think fair skin means you have a good job that you can stay inside and vice versa.
@battleelf6266 жыл бұрын
아숰쿠키AShookKookie - over here in the west we have no clue why palness is associated with attractiveness and beauty. Most just chalk it up to euro centric obsession in the east.

@blarberfash1959 жыл бұрын
u rlly think Mary Kate looked better without tanning
@tvtoms9 жыл бұрын
I think a natural skin tone is the most attractive for any person. The variety of pictures, lighting, clothing, hair, smile / no smile really messes up a comparison frankly. Some of the pictures of people were "better" based on a variety of factors aside from skin tone, but I take the question to actually be "is a tanned person more attractive than a non-tanned person" and to that I say no, in general they're not.
@gigitrahelle65856 жыл бұрын
For me megan fox looks so mich better with tan.
@cassandraskyler9 жыл бұрын
It's quite hard to pick which is better because lighting and what makeup they're wearing is so important. It can make you it's worst enemy or it's best friend.

+RandomChristina if you want to learn hangul it's pretty easy. i learned from a KZbin channel called koreanclass101.com it literally only took me an hour or two . now i'm learning korean. best of luck :)
@msnurse9119 жыл бұрын
+RandomChristina Like Miranda said it's super easy to learn Hangul. You'll be able to read it in no time. Unfortunately you'll have no idea what it means haha. But I downloaded a couple of apps on my phone, Mondly is my fave. You can also order books on Amazon that teach you. And watching lots of Korean dramas is super helpful to learn pronunciation. I also use howtostudykorean.com and it has been a great help.
@Ducky22239 жыл бұрын
+Miranda Stevens There are android apps also. But I taught myself by typing in Hangul and pronouncing the sounds. But if anyone has any tips on learning things like sentence structure, I'd appreciate it haha
@KaylaTeets9 жыл бұрын
+RandomChristina I use the iTalki website, the HelloTalk language app, and I use Talk To Me In Korean's youtube channel as well as sweetandtasty's youtube channel. I also bought the Talk To Me In Korean textbooks/workbooks for studying. Good luck. Although, may I ask why you want to move to Korea? If you are strongly considering, I suggest watching Eat Your Kimchi's channel because they talk about real life stuff in Korea and how it's different from North America. They tell you the do's and don'ts and things you may or may not like etc.
@niccolom45569 жыл бұрын
EatyourKimchi is shit and most Koreans hate them. If you're serious about moving to Korea you need to enroll in Korean classes somewhere or think of enrolling in Korea, or get textbooks yourself. Or here's any idea, just go visit. Don't move to Korea with some weird kdrama/kpop fantasy in your head.

@KHtrinity19 жыл бұрын
+Pomori ethnicity is determined by cultural factors not appearance, you must mean race
@011mph9 жыл бұрын
ethnicity isn't about race. ethnicity is a cultural group. for example, Hispanic is an ethnic group that consists of many races (afro-latino, white-latino, indigenous-latino etc.)
@011mph9 жыл бұрын
Myllena Lara Alves da Silva did you even read my comment? When did I say Latino is a race?
@011mph9 жыл бұрын
Myllena Lara Alves da Silva I think you're misunderstanding me. I am not saying Hispanic automatically = Latino. I am saying, Hispanic is not always going to be a specific race.
