While this video is very informative, there is one false fact stated that needs to be cleared up. Brake pads and brake shoes are not the same thing. Brake pads are part of a disc brake system. Brake shoes are part of a drum brake system. What is the difference? Well, disc brakes involve a disc. Other wise known as a rotor. And they work by having the caliper piston press against the pads, which presses the pads into the rotor forcing it to slow down. It looks like this (>>|

Love the show, something else to mention Organic brake pads wear faster but put minimal wear on the rotor. Sintered brake pads last longer but wear the rotor faster. Racing/track brake pads require to work in a higher temperature window. This makes them wear less when in use. But are very bad for street use were the temperatures are low. Thanks for the videos and entertainment:D Ps I think home containers are awesome!!!

Im using carquest ceramic platinum pads and rotors. They are absolutely amazing. The pads are silent. They stop on a dime. My brakes absolutely sucked. 2010 oitback in northeast pa. Took me a solid 6 or 8 hours because i completely cleaned each part of the caliper that holds the pads. Subaru uses slide pins that have boots and are sealed with grease. Mine were dry and def not working properly. Proof is that the inside pad was worn on the bottom of all the pads except one front side. That side had the best looking pins Anyway, i used a bore brush to clean the cylinder where the pin goes. I used small wire wheels to clean thenrust on the lips so the boots can seal properly. I used at 205 to clean and restore the boots to a like new appearance, i could not believe it. Anyway, the calipers are now functioning as they should of been and they just feel amazing. I flushed the fluid which makes the pedal feel brand new. Just super impressed with how much doing a job yourself can really change the outcome. Had i went to a shop theud of replaced everything n not touched the pins i guarantee it.

Brake shoes also have that angled edge to help prevent toeing. If the pad were completely flush the edge would catch more (due to obvious imperfections) and cause one side to wear more. The angled edge helps keep an even wear throughout its life
@DoomFinger5116 жыл бұрын
One thing you left out is that the more expensive brakes tend to perform worse until they have been warmed up. If you just start you car and have to emergency brake shortly afterwards the organic brake will stop the car faster. However if you've done some braking at high speed on the highway and have already warmed up the brakes then the more expensive pads will perform better.

Nope. Tires are more important than brakes. Brake on bad tires, watch what happens. Brake with no tires at all, watch what happens.
@diegofkda1996 жыл бұрын
Well really worn out tires are capable of gradually braking. And with no tires at all, the friction between the rims and the asphalt would be too high to even sustain its inercial energy. In the other hand, no brakes no ability to stop short-time wise. Which means, no engine stop.
