The highlighter color comment reminded me of how Theatre Pipe Organs utilize various color codes to classify various sounds. The American Theatre Organ Society (ATOS) standardized on various colors on the instrument (Tabs / Stops or Tongues) for the Organist to easily and rapidly identify a specific class of sound in real-time during a performance. For example: Red = REeDs, Trumpets, Oboes, Horns (full of harmonics - sawtooth), White=Flutes/Organ/Tibia/Diapason (fundamental- lacking harmonics, aka: pure sine wave), Yellow=Strings, Celeste , Blue/Green= Varieties of various percussion instruments. Not completely accurate but at least something to reference. Square waves yield a hollow timbre (odd harmonics) typically Clarinets, oboes. Perhaps that is why Dan associated various colors to different classes of sounds (or not). Enjoyed the episode.

I think there is also a syntesthetic variable to his color analogy. The different timbres being like different hues

I’m hoping Hydrasynth will include wavetable presets separate from patches, but until then I’ll make init patches with waves for particular sounds which gives me 8 per patch. Good information to be efficient.

Very helpful video @Daniel Fisher. One Q: what exactly do you mean by initializing a patch or tone? and how can I create a new patch from the scratch without editing any existing patches? I can get into patch edit mode but that changes the existing patch. I want to know if a brand new patch can be created by selecting tones (Waveforms), without disturbing any existing patches?

Hi TheCreativeComposer. When you "Initialize" a preset, you're not really changing any stored presets until you save your new preset to a chosen location. -_Daniel_

Is the init patch you went to at the beginning one you previously made and saved? How do I get to that raw patch on the DS? Great info, by the way. I didn’t know my DS had so many other hidden sounds. There’s so many parameters in the menus that I have no idea what they mean.
